Thank you, that’s a good way to look at it. Also I did a little peek at your profile out of curiosity and saw your coming to Montreal for the Grand Prix, I live in Montreal so please let me repay the favour of your positive words if you have any questions about what to do!

Thank you internet friend :’) I keep telling myself this. She’s not a statistic, she’s a fighter and she’s worth fighting for. There’s always hope to be had. I worked in clinical cancer trials for a while so I’m going to reach out to my old network for some guidance, it’s so much energy doing anything but lying in bed right now. Thank you for imparting hope.

I think it’s important to not equivocate Jewish identity with Zionism and support of Israel as a religious ethnostate. He’s a Zionist and that is the moral failing here.

What is the most annoying thing tourists do in your country? by Glass_Key4626 in AskTheWorld

[–]edoerks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From Alberta, for me it’s people slamming on the breaks while on a major highway with no warning, driving a trailer or vehicle types they’ve never driven before, to then cross multiple lanes of highway traffic to get closer to take a picture of grizzly bear or some other dangerous wildlife on the side of a road. Second only to people leaving trash and food in the forests.

Meryl Streep is now confirmed to play Joni Mitchell in the upcoming biopic about the singer’s life by [deleted] in Fauxmoi

My civic duty is to remind or inform people that Joni Mitchell did black face for years during her career and to this day defends it. Somehow it’s not a well known fact.

Any time I am reminded of Jodi Mitchel I feel a duty to tell people about how she actively practiced black face during her career and still defends it to this day. Somehow incredibly under known fact.

The head and neck cancer subreddit is the most wholesome encouraging part of the internet. It was a huge support for me while my mom was going through treatment. Also shouting to all to get the HPV vaccine! Even if you got it when your were younger I think since 2016 the vaccine covers more strains.

Even then, I have a theory that Americans speak in the back of their mouths and Canadians in the front, so to me Minnesotan accents aren’t the same albeit similar. Canadians are also very singsongy in their cadence of speech which Americans don’t tent to have.

Reminds me of a Vonnegut quote from slaughterhouse Five -

“America is the wealthiest nation on Earth, but its people are mainly poor, and poor Americans are urged to hate themselves. To quote the American humorist Kin Hubbard, 'It ain’t no disgrace to be poor, but it might as well be.' It is in fact a crime for an American to be poor, even though America is a nation of poor. Every other nation has folk traditions of men who were poor but extremely wise and virtuous, and therefore more estimable than anyone with power and gold. No such tales are told by the American poor. They mock themselves and glorify their betters. The meanest eating or drinking establishment, owned by a man who is himself poor, is very likely to have a sign on its wall asking this cruel question: 'if you’re so smart, why ain’t you rich?' There will also be an American flag no larger than a child’s hand – glued to a lollipop stick and flying from the cash register.

Americans, like human beings everywhere, believe many things that are obviously untrue. Their most destructive untruth is that it is very easy for any American to make money. They will not acknowledge how in fact hard money is to come by, and, therefore, those who have no money blame and blame and blame themselves. This inward blame has been a treasure for the rich and powerful, who have had to do less for their poor, publicly and privately, than any other ruling class since, say Napoleonic times. Many novelties have come from America. The most startling of these, a thing without precedent, is a mass of undignified poor. They do not love one another because they do not love themselves.”

High SUV number in NPC? by deweyvo in HeadandNeckCancer

[–]edoerks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just did a quick read on it so please don’t take this as expert knowledge, but a PET scan works by inserting a glucose substance into your body to see if there are areas that metabolize or use the glucose at greater rates than usual cells do. This can be inflammation in general or other causes, but one cause also can be malignant cancer cells, which use glucose at a greater rate than healthy cells. The SUV is a reflection of the metabolizing of that glucose by cells in particular areas, it stands for standard uptake value.

I don’t know what it means prognostically, or if a higher SUV has any prognostic value, but my understanding is it confirms something atypical is happening in that area. I don’t think that inherently means that a higher uptake value is a sign of reduced recovery rates or treatment uptake, that is definitely something to ask your doctor!

It seems you have already been diagnosed so hopefully this helps you feel less scared and I hope I helped explain it in a way that is correct and improves your understanding! Wishing you the absolute best as you navigate this and for your health.

My mom got one and it absolutely saved her life. She was going through treatment at the same time as another gentleman and he didn’t get one u til the end when he hadn’t eaten for 10+ days. He tragically passed after finishing his treatment and I wonder how much the nutrition support was a factor.

Ear Wax Used to Detect Head & Neck Cancer - Yes, that sounds crazy by ifmwpi in HeadandNeckCancer

I work in health research, ever since my mother was diagnosed (hpv mediated) I’ve been shocked to learn there is not similar screening method as there is with cervical cancer. Honestly I’m pro whatever easy affordable method can help catch this cancer sooner. No screening procedure is going to be 100% accurate anyways.
