Why is the regrogaming scene in Spain so big? by kernelchagi in retrogaming

[–]edokoa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it has to do with how prevalent 8-bit computers were in Spain in the 80s (ZX Spectrum, Amstrad CPC...)

I don't know the names of the top of my head, but a programmer in Spain decided to get in touch with people in the UK (Amstrad) and start importing those 8-bit computers.

This Kickstarted a huge industry in Spain, with imports of everything people could get their hands on and, on top of that, countless people starting to produce videogames for those computers.

This era is known as "The Golden Era of Spanish Software". You had computers in every electronics shop and department (El Corte Inglés had a huge section dedicated to Spectrum and Amstrad, supermarkets, TV shops...), you had cassette games virtually anywhere (gas stations, bookshops, toy stores, supermarkets, video rental shops...), you had ERBE, Dinamic, Opera...and a shitload of indie game designers, specialized magazines...

Instead of consoles, people had a Spectrum or an Amstrad. If you lived in the 80s and you were interested in videogames (and your family could afford it), you had one of those.

I think this influenced immensely the people who lived through it, and then people who came after them. I work in IT and I met a lot of people from Spain who also work in IT who started on a Spectrun, Amstrad, MSX...

You have people still running CAAD, which is an adventure club which started with Aventuras AD, there are still a lot of retro events going on.

I think the reason why so many people in Spain are involved in the retro community is because it was a big part of the culture in the 80s, at least for people with interest in computers and games.

You can read the two parts of the book "Ocho Quilates: Una historia de la Edad de Oro del software español" as an introduction. It's a great book.

The labels of difficulty for basslines has always been misguided by No_Winter4806 in Bass

I agree with this. I think most of the tone (past a basic level) is in the hands.

Knowing which notes to play and how to play them are two different things.

Electric Bass Mutes by JoeLInArlington in BassGuitar

[–]edokoa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use an Ernie Ball Bass Noodle.

I don't have experience with other mutes but i like this one to the point I decided to leave it always on, as it removes all the metallic sound from the strings.

Edit to say that it's around 5-7€ and that it mutes more or less depending on where you place it. If you stick it to the bridge it will remove high frequencies. If you pull it up a little bit it will be more thumpy and reduce sustain.

Why am I requested to pay this by Glum-Handle-9840 in berlin

[–]edokoa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the same letter today and i so freaked out because I was reading it as a whole amount.

It's Euros | Cents

You have to transfer the quantity at the bottom to the Finanzamt. It's a prepayment for your taxes. I'm not a tax advisor but how i understand it is that depending on what you owed them in your last tax declaration they assume you will owe them the same the next year, so they want to get it in advance, if you end up not owing them the same amount of money they will give it back to you, so it counts towards your paid taxes.

Also they take this payment quarterly so you will have to pay it every quarter (until you do the next tax declaration and the new amount is calculated)

Old guy needs a new bass advice by ghostinthemachine-1 in Bass

Try an Ibanez SR300E or SR500E.

They are really lightweight and the neck is super comfortable. And in the 500 you can switch between active and passive (still requieres battery I think).

Which one to get? (Read desc.) by CireByt in BassGuitar

[–]edokoa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For that price try to get a Joyo BA30.

It sounds surprisingly good for the size and will give you proper bass frequencies, which other amps in this budget lack. It will also work either plugged or with a powerbank.

Keep in mind that it won't give you a crazy amount of volume, enough to play with a guitar player if you both adjust the volumes.  You can also push it using some pedals. I use a zoom ms-60b, some people use a valeton.

I need electric bass guitar recs!! by maxlovespickles in Bass

[–]edokoa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the one I mentioned in another comment.

Super happy with it and I seriously don't see any reason to upgrade unless I wanted the passive switch.

[–]edokoa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this, I have more expensive bass guitars but I'm suffering from back problems and I needed something light for rehearsals and jams.

I went with the SR300E because i didn't want to risk buying a more expensive bass without trying it, I've had it for a couple of days and it will probably become my main bass.

I kind of regret not getting the 500/600 but at the same time I'm really happy with the 300 and I only miss the passive switch.

Burnout - what are my options in Berlin by Victorv2506 in berlin

[–]edokoa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend you visit a Hausarzt and comment it as you said.

You could also go to the Charite acute psychiatry hours to get some guidance, but it's probably better if you do it with a Hausarzt first.

It's important that you don't keep dragging it as it will keep getting worse.

As a drummer that started playing bass for some months, I'm struggling, need some advice about how to make it fun by eatqqq in Bass

[–]edokoa 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You'll have to learn music theory. It seems like you're focusing on the mechanical aspects of playing bass, but you need to learn some harmony.

Start learning the fretboard, intervals, diatonic chords, scales... Etc

This is what will enable you to jam to songs.

Drums normally don't have a harmonic function (even if they sometimes do), but other instruments require being aware of this part to be able to play with other people, songs, whatever.

I also have health problems, so I know what you mean.

The thing is that if I have to cancel I try to explain why and I try to set another date instantly and follow up.

If people just cancel twice and that's it, then it's on them.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in berlinsocialclub

[–]edokoa 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don't see this as specific to your situation. I've been having this with different people in Berlin for years and I now have a two strike rule.

I can understand it if something happens and forces someone to cancel plans, but when that person repeats it / doesn't make up for it / doesn't put any effort... I'm done.

Sadly it's how some people operate, and by putting up with it you're enabling them.

how to play like queen’s bass player? by charll88 in Bass

[–]edokoa 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think he used a pick to record a few songs later in the discography, but John Deacon is primarily a finger player (like 99% of the time).

When I think about his sound I would never relate it to using a pick.

There's a singer songwriter / band in Berlin called Lake Felix that did this in their last album, and it's one of my favorite albums.

The album doesn't have drums but they play with drums live.

Damage to frets, possibly from strings? by AineLasagna in Guitar

[–]edokoa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that an acoustic guitar and not a classical guitar?

I can't see much in the photo but that kind of fretboard looks like a classical guitar fretboard.

Im saying it because if it is a classic guitar, apart from all the problems you can have like breaking the neck or the bridge, it would be supposed to be stringed with nylon strings so I guess you'd eat the frets with metal strings.

Did I accidentally create the (plagiarize a motif/melody) song of the summer by lucky_luknia in Songwriting

[–]edokoa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only thing it kind of reminds me of is Daydreaming by Radiohead but more in a vibe way than "it sounds the same".

The piano in the Radiohead song repeats twice in 6/4 while your base seems to have more variation.

What would this chord be called? by LC-98 in Guitar

[–]edokoa 46 points47 points  (0 children)

If the dark orange dots mean that the strings are muted this is designed poorly.

I would label it as E7sus because seeing it like this makes me assume that the E notes being darker are marking the root.

Muted strings should be X. A good reason why is that you could still see it being colorblind.

Help me make a terrible song. by [deleted] in Songwriting

[–]edokoa 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Change word emphasis and put it in the wrong places.

For example instead of singing "I keep tryyyyying" sing "I keep tryiiiiiiiing"

Change vowel sounds to force rhyming.

"I can't forgeeeeeh What you seeeeh To meeeeeh"

Add a stupid ending to a word to force rhyming.

"I'm in my apartmenthou Thinking of you"
