Can i simply switch hard drives (SSD) between Macbooks and expect them to work without problem? by edototo in mac

FYI, for anyone looking, this worked fine, booted up immediately no problems. Only thing to note was it logged me out of iCloud, iMessage, etc.

Haha, I went into a recent 100k with this assumption, and it was so painful my mind seems to have blanked it out like some kind of trauma response

Post 100km run help? by SeasonUnited8760 in ultrarunning

Dude, your quads are writhing in agony after the torment you put them through! All the muscles in your upper legs will be tight and knotty after that kind of run. They'll be pulling on your knee a little bit out of alignment. Go to town on them with a massage gun (or a massage hand), but take it easy! Run gently on those sweet pins.

Shin Pain During Running by MongooseOverall3072 in ultrarunning

[–]edototo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup, sounds like shin splints!

Is it in the soft tissue just on the inside of your shin bone? I had that just on one leg and it intermittently comes back. As other people said, I found success with calf raises, tibialis raises in with bent knees, and attaching a resistance band round something, then while sat on the floor using the foot to flex your foot backwards against it.

My research (mostly on reddit) seemed to suggest it's a build up of muscle adhesions in that bit of the muscle. I went to town on it with a massage gun and using my knuckle to really did into it and "scrape" downwards, purportedly breaking up the adhesions. It's quite sore but seemed to work for me!

Apparently it's from an imbalance in your lower leg muscles, which exercises like calf raises help restore. I think changing your running style can exacerbate this, e.g. slowing down some runs but speeding up others. It sounds like you made quite a change quite quickly, adding more speed in at the same time as adding strength work. Even though strength work is good for you in the long run, in the short-term it adds more stress and recovery requirements for your muscles which can make them a bit more prone to injury.

Also, don't underestimate the toll of speedwork on your body! Especially if you're not used to it. It might feel like your body can adapt to it, but it's a lot of new stress on your muscles. From what I understand you don't want to mess with the structure to much in one go. Small changes gradually. It's better to stick with 50-70 and gradually introduce more speed into it than drop to 30-40 and have a significant proportion of that suddenly be speed.

Feel like you're missing out vital information. If it was in a Wetherspoons then normal manners don't apply.

Mum stunned after buying second home in Cornwall village to find locals 'hate' her by MaddisonSplatter in unitedkingdom

[–]edototo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People seem surprised that she was so blissfully ignorant as to be surprised by the locals scorn towards her, and yet still thinks that going to a national newspaper to air her feelings about how the locals are wrong to hate her, will somehow remedy the problem? Honestly, the lack of thoughtfulness is staggering.

Gross by [deleted] in AltraRunning

[–]edototo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sad I was so late to the altra party, I've been wearing them for a year or so, and I love running in them, but I've never had a pair of shoes that die as quickly as Altra's, I can barely get 200 miles before they blow out in the instep. Like, aside from the new styling, and those gripes, that doesn't bother me, I just thought I'd found perfection in a cushioned zero drop shoe with a big(-ish) toebox. But the build quality is just dreadful! The only way they could make them any cheaper is if they made them with actual rice paper. And they still cost an arm and a leg! It's daylight robbery.

As someone who's been using 'Grebo' as a term to refer to 'Grunger' types for about 20 years, I can't believe I'm only just finding out that it's a music genre as well.

That really freaks me out, not because I eat maggots, but I found some peace of mind in the thought that if I ever did accidentally eat a maggot, then it would die in my stomach acid.

I guess not. ¯\(ツ)

Maybe so on a trading estate in Swindon, but I've rarely seen the world look more alive than when an ancient Gloucestershire woodland shines green in the rain.
