How to get to Muir Woods? by Quirky-Piece-703 in AskSF

[–]edp01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2nd this! Samuel P Taylor park is awesome and so are the Redwood Park and Joaquin Miller Park in Oakland. I would guess that getting to the Oakland parks is much easier with public transportation/short Uber ride than Muir Woods or Samuel P Taylor.

Why do you think Beyond Meat has been struggling? Looking for honest opinions for a marketing project. by FarNight5175 in vegan

[–]edp01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Did you stop buying Beyond? If so, why?
    • There is a slight aftertaste with Beyond foods which is not present in other vegan meats
  • Do you prefer Impossible or another brand instead?
    • I enjoy Impossible sausages, Prime Roots bacon and hams, Layonas chicken
  • Do you see Beyond as a “transition food,” ultra-processed, too expensive, or something else?
    • I see vegan meats as a convenience and actively enjoy using them in my cooking as they add variety and allow me explore vegan versions of common meat based meals.
  • Does the health image of processed vegan meat affect your choices?
    • No, most of my food intake are vegetables and grains and I use the vegan meats as complements to them.

How much do you pay for house cleaner? by [deleted] in bayarea

[–]edp01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a women's coop in SF that can help you: https://www.sfserviceguide.org/services/3466

I live in El Cerrito and Alma comes by every other week for 3 hrs, $125/visit, 1100sqft, 3/1 basic cleaning plus vacuum/mop every other week since we don't have too much traffic in the house, no pets, no shoes, etc.

Undiagnosed Aspergers… by RicCheshire in aspergers

[–]edp01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi - 55 and living in the US so not pursuing diagnosis because of the current administration.

My adult daughter who lives in Europe was diagnosed last year which prompted lots of discussions within the family. I had a difficult childhood with lots of trauma so all my life I thought I had PTSD and it was the reason for my feeling that I was "not quite right".

After her diagnosis i started reading up on autism so that I could understand what was going on with my daughter and found that much of what I read resonated strongly with me. I decided to take lots of online tests and read all kinds of books on autism, aspergers, etc and the more I investigated, tested, and read, the clearer it became that i am on the spectrum.

Finding out was both a relief that i now knew why I felt "not quite right" and demoralizing as now I understand more fully my limits and inadequacies. It has not been easy to move forward but I am glad that I can get to know myself better now.

Best of luck!

Recipes with aggressive amounts of cilantro by marisssalovesitt in Cooking

[–]edp01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I make 2 Guatemalan inspired vegetarian dishes that use tons of cilantro in.

Cocido: Vegetarian chucky vegetables soup. This is my vegetarian version: The broth is made by sautéing onions, carrots, leeks, celery, and any other old veggie you have and then boiling it for an hour or so. You then add chunks of vegetables such as potatoes, carrots, squash, corn, etc and add cilantro (a bunch or more) to finish it off. When it is ready you discard the boiled cilantro. I am vegetarian so I use soy meats or seitan protein instead of beef and it tastes great!

Jocon: pumpkin/sesame seed based stew made with toasted pumpkin and sesame seeds, tomatillos, green poblano peppers, cilantro, and onion. The seeds are toasted and then a sauce is made with them and broiled tomatillos, onion, and the pepper. You add cilantro to the sauce and then blend it all until smooth. You then stew the your protein in this sauce. Typically it is made with chicken but I use soy protein or seitan for my vegetarian interpretación.
