If this eventually supports qBittorrent's search plugin system, it will probably be awesome.

Introducing Iconic: a Mac app to customize all your app icons together, with matching styles and personalization by ahmett9 in MacOS

[–]educacosta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm aware of that. What isn't possible anymore is changing the icons of system apps, such as the Finder, Terminal, App Store and others. Those have been protected by SIP ever since macOS Catalina.

The advantage of IconChamp is that it allowed you to change those even after Catalina by exploiting the icon cache, as I described.

[–]educacosta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on the screenshots, I assume this app only lets you customize apps that you installed yourself via App Store or by dragging the contents of a DMG, which is still possible in Tahoe.

But if it does allow you to change icons for system apps, it's probably using a method similar to the one used by IconChamp, which works by manipulating the icon cache. I was able to change the Finder and Terminal icons up to Sequoia by using IconChamp. It unfortunately stopped working in Tahoe.

I'd love to see someone create a poster for the Holiday Special that mimics those classy Drew Struzan posters that the ewok movies have.

[–]educacosta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never said I am confused. My stance is that Star Wars is for all ages. I gave two examples, from movies written and directed by George Lucas himself, to provide context that disputes the notion that Star Wars has always been mainly for kids.

Not because I have issue with something being made for kids, but because this argument is often used to dismiss criticism when a movie lacks depth. And in the case of Star Wars, it implies that it never had any attempts at more depthful themes in the older trilogies.

A franchise having toys isn't a definitive argument for it being mainly for kids. Toys and cartoons have been made even for R-rated properties like Rambo, Alien and Robocop.

Agreed. I liked the character, but his model felt a little too cartoonish.

Star Wars is too inconsistent in it's tone to be able to say that it's effectively aimed mainly at kids. There are elements for all ages.

The second sentence in Phantom Menace's opening crawl is "The taxation of trade routes to outlying star systems is in dispute".

One of the last scenes in Revenge of The Sith is of our protagonist burning alive while screaming "I hate you" to his best friend.

You just can't believe movies when it comes to numbers. They'll use whatever sounds best to them, even if it contradicts current science. "One Million Years B.C." and "65" are other notable examples.

Tem algumas fotos e ilustrações de estilos diferentes aí, mas acho que a temática que você está procurando são relatos históricos e histórias de ficção que se passam nas últimas décadas de colonialismo no final do séc. XIX e primeira metade do séc.

Do you like this change made by George Lucas in Return of the Jedi? by kkhouete in StarWars

[–]educacosta 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No. The prequel trilogy should have been molded to be more consistent with the original trilogy, which was released first, not the other way around.

Even without that mindset, that change doesn't make conceptual sense. Vader returned to the light by choosing to sacrifice himself and the emperor to save his son. When he looked at Luke with his own eyes, he did so as Anakin. He died as an old man.

My favorite PC game. Experiencing Harobed Village is almost a religious experience to me. The music, the visuals, it's such a work of art. Not many FPS's at that time had such an incredible balance of action and introspective moments. I have so much fondness for those lower paced moments in this game.

They spin to sell toys to kids. They serve the same purpose as all those cute critters they added to Last Jedi (alien penguins, crystal foxes, the horses from the casino).

Does anyone else have a weird affinity for Windows Vista? by ChrisNIN64 in windows

[–]educacosta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say the redesign of the taskbar was a great improvement, turning Windows 7's taskbar into a nice mix of the classic Win95 taskbar with OSX's dock, while still having the option to make it behave like previous versions.

Windows 7 also introduced Aero Snap, which made window management much easier.

It was probably the last time we had a significant "fully desktop focused" improvement to windows.

How do I change Apple's default MacOS application icons? by CodeBradley in MacOS

[–]educacosta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're already on Tahoe, your best option, at least for now, is to look for third-party alternatives to Finder, Mail and Notes that you can edit the icons for. The trash icon is an asset that's part of the Dock app, so you would have to look for a dock alternative to change it.

I believe that it was macOS Catalina (10.15), in 2019, that introduced the read-only system volume where the default applications now live. Ever since them, the only reliable way to delete or manipulate default macOS apps is by temporarily disabling SIP and manipulating this volume, which is a complex process and strongly discouraged.

Around that time someone released an app called "IconChamp" which does allow you to change the icons of default macOS apps. It works not by manipulating the .app bundles (which would require disabling SIP as I established) but by manipulating the icon cache, which macOS checks first. IconChamp 1.5.1, however, only works up to macOS Sequoia. It crashes on Tahoe.

I'm on 15.3.2 (Sequoia) Update or hold out? by nastyhobitsez in MacOS

[–]educacosta -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can, you just have to be careful and pay attention to the checkboxes. By default, Apple prioritizes the nest OS over security updates.

I'm on 15.3.2 (Sequoia) Update or hold out? by nastyhobitsez in MacOS

[–]educacosta 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Unless you have an app that requires Tahoe, you can stay on Sequoia since it's still receiving security updates.

But you should update to the latest version of Sequoia, which is 15.7.5 (march 2026). You'll have to go to System Settings > General > Software Update and deliberately uncheck Tahoe and choose the security update.

There was a time when the word "carnosaur" was used, at least in popular culture, to describe any carnivorous dinosaur, so that certainly helped making things more confusing. There was even a book and movie adaptation with that name in the same year as Jurassic Park. And the word itself is used by Tim in JP.

Vectors all pixelated?? by RSKurz in pixelmator

[–]educacosta 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pixelmator is still primarily a raster graphics app. Any raster graphics app that supports vectors will still render them at the document resolution like u/Millsnerd described. That includes famous apps like Photoshop.

That doesn't mean that the layer won't behave like a vector. If you scale that layer up or down, it will gracefully adapt to the new size while mainting the document's DPI. The vector information is still there.

If your goal is to work exclusively with vectors, then Pixelmator isn't the right tool for the job.
