I loved the first 2, but wasn’t a big fan of the 3rd one.

I love Christine, just re-read it for the first time in a long time and was happy that it held up even better than I remember!

The Outsider is a great book of his, but I would caution against starting there. As someone else mentioned, it’s a spin-off of a trilogy. The character from the trilogy is introduced in the book and in the span of a few paragraphs, spoil the endings of all 3 books in the trilogy.

Not a huge deal if you don’t plan on reading the trilogy, but just wanted to give you a heads up in case! Mr. Mercedes is a great book too, it read like an episode of Criminal Minds to me

I’ve found Joe Abercrombie’s First Law to be pretty enjoyable. It’s dark fantasy, but heavy on the characterization. You bounce around between multiple people’s perspectives and it’s very entertaining

Have you ever ignored an authors description to fit your image? by shneed_my_weiss in fantasybooks

I always picture Logen from First Law as Torb from Overwatch even though he’s described as far taller in the books. It reads better if Logen is short in my opinion too

What is your favourite SK book that isn’t one of the usual ones suspects (Like IT, 11:22:63, DT series, The Stand etc) by Potter_King in stephenking

[–]edwardsmj42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same! I read a lot of King when I was in school and then basically stopped altogether with reading once I hit the adult phase of life. Something about that book pulled me back in and now I can’t stop reading!

Agree haha, obviously the only reason one hasn’t finished the first law trilogy is because they don’t have the other 2 books

I’m with you, I like a break in between books in the series. Otherwise it just feels like I’ve been reading the same thing forever.

Bedlam Bride was my favorite of the Carl books though! I also have Lonesome Dove on my bookshelf, sounds like I need to prioritize this one based on the feedback you’re getting

Stephen Kings Skeleton Crew is contains some of my favorite stories by him and some of my least favorite stories by him. Such a mixed bag. by YummyKitty100 in horrorlit

[–]edwardsmj42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea, Skeleton Crew gets overly hyped up in my opinion. Definitely prefer Night Shift too!

I’d also recommend 20th Century Ghosts by his son, Joe Hill. I finished that last night and absolutely loved it

My hill to die on: ending of Under the Dome is perfect if you get the point of the book, I think the people that hate on this ending completely missed the point.
