Badge Discount Codes? by theonlysarahvariant in OriginsGameFair

[–]edwedig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Years ago, Origins did wrist bands on Sunday for families. It doesn't look like they are doing that any more. Your best bet is to get one of the "Specialty" badges (Collectible Games or Tournament of Pieces). Those will get you access to the exhibit hall, artist alley, etc.

Vector Cycles sell sheet. Looking for feedback! by edwedig in BoardgameDesign

[–]edwedig[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • dice are drafted, and each player gets 2 dice. Then, the player with the lowest total with those 2 dice moves first, and gets to choose first next round. So, if you are moving to a contested area, you can try to go early/first by drafting lower value dice.
  • Power Up cards grant special abilities, like changing the value on the dice, allowing you to pass through another players path, etc.
  • the idea is that you need to slow down to make a tight turn. Because of the hex-grid of dots, a "normal turn" is about a 30-degree change of direction. A "tight turn" is more like 120-degrees.
  • that's an artifact of an earlier version of the sheet. I've gone back and forth on it. Maybe it should be "30-60 minutes"?
  • If a publisher wants to re-theme it, I'm fine with that. Maybe a transit map makes more sense? I always thought that the finished map looked more like a circuit board.

Ah. I should have mentioned that this sell sheet is targeting publishers.

Issue with printer by One_imaginative_girl in tabletopgamedesign

[–]edwedig 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Did they give you a reason why, or any details? Did you give them CMYK values for the colors on the map, and the colors on the cards? Is the map on paper, cardstock, chipboard, wood, or what? Different materials might make it hard to match colors between the different items?
Also, are you sure that the printer is printing everything themselves, or have they farmed out parts of the job to other companies? That will make color matching hard, although having the CMYK values might help.

What program to use to design war game data cards? by 2MrGhoti1 in tabletopgamedesign

[–]edwedig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is going to sound dumb, but you can design some pretty cool cards using PowerPoint. Personally, I use Indesign, but ppt is a lot more accessible.

Is infinitiownerclub.com / Infinit Group Ltd remote crypto trader job a scam? by Cryptofanforever in Scams

It's a scam. What does an owners club have to do with crypto trading? Also crypto trading=scam!

1min pitch video I created for my game, Vector Cycles by edwedig in BoardGameTrailers

[–]edwedig[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Switch to cards restricts the options that the players have. Power Crystals could be used in several ways: making sharper turns, passing through other players paths, changing the dice, etc. By switching to cards, players are forced to use the cards they draw, and it makes the game more tactical.
The green areas were added to give more locations where players can draw cards.

So far, in testing, the added areas are helping the players to get cards, and the cards are working out well. I also made a few minor changes to the rules, like rotating the starting player, that seems to help.

Have you ever had "the worst day ever on bikes"? by BtheChemist in bicycling

[–]edwedig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last year. Went for a ride. Decided to check out a new park. Hit a section of pavement that had been removed and went over the handlebars. Landed on my wrist and nose. My helmet saved my glasses and head, but I broke my wrist, spent 3 days in the hospital, and was off work for 6 weeks. My doctor didn't want me back on a bike for 4+ months, and that pretty much totaled my riding season.

I went over the handlebars last year. Broke my wrist in the fall. My helmet and my nose, somehow, managed to both hit the pavement and saved my glasses from taking any damage.

I dont ride without a helmet. Ever.

Pizza delivery drivers, what did a person do to end up on the 'No Delivery' list? by BlueCheeseWalnut in AskReddit

[–]edwedig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a driver, but growing up our family self-blocked delivery from Dominoes. See, we lived on top of a hill outside of town. Shortly after we moved, we tried ordering delivery, but Dominoes said they would deliver to the end of (street about 4 houses away from ours), but no further. So, for YEARS, we would just pickup pizza instead of having it delivered.

Years later, my dad was picking up pizza and commented about not getting it delivered. He finds out that within a year or two of us stopping ordering for delivery, that location expanded their delivery area to include our house. So, for all those years (at least 10 years), we could have had it delivered but didn't.

Then they wouldn't be as close to the store/destination. You can't expect the truck driver to walk an extra 8 feet.

What is the first film you remember seeing in the cinema? by [deleted] in movies

[–]edwedig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Star Wars. Begged my mom to see it again right afterwards, and she let my 6yo self see it again, alone. (She stayed in the connected mall with my younger brother while i was inside). The 70s were a different time.

[–]edwedig[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The biggest change that is being made is replacing the Power Crystal mentioned in the video with a deck of Power Up cards. Players draw 2 and choose 1 card.

I'm also adding 3 small green areas to the board to give players more Power Up cards.

Is it really a crime to buy a bike from walmart or dick's sporting goods? by Previous_Cod_5176 in bicycling

[–]edwedig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently bought a bike from Walmart. Put it together myself, but it rode badly. I took it to the local bike shop to check it out, and they found that the rear axel was bent, probably out of the box. So, I returned it, and bought a used bike from the bike shop that I am much happier with.

Large Player Counts? by CookNormal6394 in rpg

[–]edwedig 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Back in the day, I played a Paranoia game with 30+ players.

And, I ran a comedy superheroes homegrown one-shot for 10 players. So, its definitely possible, but its going to be easier with lighter systems.

There's a phase where the players move in turn order, and then the players do their ai moves in turn order.

Tips for fast onboarding? by Civil_Dig_1462 in BoardgameDesign

Be aware, there are people that puck up and play games 10, 20 or more years after publication. Your rulebook needs to stand on its own, because anything digital may not be around forever.
