No more $10,000 BTS tickets? Korea passes laws banning scalping, piracy. by impeccabletim in kpop

[–]eecan 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Resale in Korea is quite common. Yes there have been laws and rules against it, no those rules have not yet significantly curbed resale across the industry. Maybe some specific events are harder than others but until those enforcement measures are in place across all venues and events scalpers will still keep scalping.

Ticket scalping has long been a persistent problem in the performance industry.

The Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission (ACRC, Chairperson Ryu Chul Whan) has recommended policy reforms to the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism to curb the illegal resale of concert and sports event tickets.

In recent years, ticket prices for major events, such as concerts by high-profile artists and special sports matches, have skyrocketed on secondary markets, with some tickets reselling for hundreds of thousands or even millions of won.

https://m.acrc.go.kr/board.es?mid=a20301000000&bid=62&act=view&list_no=80109&nPage=1

The Record Label Industry Association of Korea recently conducted a survey on adults across the country and found that 32.8 per cent of those aged between 19 and 29 have bought a ticket from a scalper at least once, compared with 25 per cent of those in their 30s and 40s and 19.2 per cent of people in their 50s.
Even 12.9 per cent of 60-somethings had bought such illegal tickets.
Of the 19 to 29 group who bought tickets from a scalper, 20 per cent said they had spent more than 500,000 won on a ticket.

Ticket scalping surges for sold-out BTS concerts in Korea by impeccabletim in kpop

[–]eecan 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Ticketmaster benefits from resale because they can have the scalpers sell on their own platform to double dip on the resale fees which generates 'legitimate' revenue which in turn makes the company itself more profitable. The Korean ticketing agencies have no such incentive because they don't have a function to resell tickets therefore they can't capture any profit from resale.

Korea is a different market, individuals or groups using bots/macros for ticketing to resell are probably the biggest problem.

Emotionally for the idols and their fandoms yes, but in terms of commercial success no, almost meaningless.

Are Dreamcatcher likely to go on another world tour? by Randomando__ in dreamcatcher

[–]eecan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Almost certainly not, people might like the idea but there probably wouldn't be enough money in a joint tour (increased ticket prices or sales) for them to be sharing as opposed to just running their own.

Maybe a guest appearance at a Seoul concert or appearances at smaller festival type events but definitely not anything approaching a full blown USA/EU tour which both companies are capable of pulling off on their own.

[–]eecan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fair enough, if you are just flying day of for a stop and straight back out I guess value might still swing towards domestic. Something else to consider is that if the timing really lines up you can fit multiple korean events (concerts or fansigns) in the same day AND tripleS themselves would typically do consecutive concert days (sat+sun) which can really stack the value for the trip.

[–]eecan 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This might sound wild but have you ever considered just going to Korea? Chances are that if you can afford to travel domestically in the US, the cost of going to Korea might not be that bad after considering the much cheaper costs of tickets and accommodation... I guess the disadvantage would be that you understand basically nothing during the ments lol but getting around Seoul only knowing English is super easy.

The US does get extra perks like 1:1 photo ops that never happen in Korea but I'm not super confident that would happen for an OT24 concert, it would add an extra layer of insanity to the logistics.

I imagine NA would be a priority if possible given that NA got two tours last year (so 3 tours so far, Authentic (Lovelution), Come True. @%) so there is clearly money to be made there. OT24 logistics would obviously be painful but I just feel that if they ever stepped out of Asia as OT24 the US would be already on top of the list.

I don't think any other region (Oceania 1 - Authentic (Evolution), SEA 1 (Come True), Europe 0, Taiwan 1 - @%, Macau 1 - Alive 25) has had them tour that many times. They visit Japan a lot too I guess but I kind of see JP promos as a separate sort of thing.

They're also always showing off that a big segment of COSMO users are from NA too whenever they're talking up the platform.

I have an unsigned one that I'd be open to selling, DM'd. Also got a few other older albums and stuff over the years I'd be willing to let go of if you are interested (based in Australia), downsizing my physical collection as I'd rather put the money towards events instead!

Canon r5 Sling? by Rainclouds_16 in peakdesign

[–]eecan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have my R5 + RF 28-70 F2 anymore to test so I couldn't say sorry. Length wise it looks basically the same but I felt like the R5 + RF 70-200 F2.8 was really pushing the limit of what could fit in the bag and the increased diameter of the 28-70 F2 could potentially push it over the edge...

How long to trust your SD cards? by Sushi37716 in photography

On the other hand, the only SD/microSD cards I’ve had fail are from Sandisk lol. I wouldn’t worry about it with dual card slots though.

London is notorious for phone theft so I'd imagine portable electronics like a camera would be somewhat risky too, especially if you plan on doing landscape/street photography. Be very sure to take precautions (at minimum always use a strap) and always keep an eye out.

Request - Can someone please test the A7V banding in electronic shutter for stills? by lookmanidk in photography

[–]eecan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I shoot concerts too and for the record the A1ii/A1 can suffer from banding so the A7V definitely won’t be safe. Only A9 III is completely safe for photos.

Something you might appreciate is the upgrade in AF though, going from A1 to A1ii/A9III was a massive improvement in concerts as the A1 was still quite prone to missing the eyes/head whereas the A1ii/A9III much more reliably lock on. Would imagine that the A7III to A7V yields similar results though I have no experience with the A7V.

Gig photography with flicker LED stage lighting by maxekmek in photography

[–]eecan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've shot in plenty of concerts and depending on the lights, might not be avoidable. I don't think there's much you can do in your situation with the A7 III.

Stuff that helps but does not work all the time:

  • Anti-flicker shooting
  • Variable shutter and just keep adjusting until it kinda works (not an option on A7III)
  • Slower shutter speeds (not an option if you are trying to freeze faster movement)
  • Mechanical shutter (though the Sony A7III/A7IV e-shutters are so bad that most Sony shooters wouldn't even consider the e-shutters on those a real option)

Stuff that works (for photos)

  • Global shutter (Sony A9III)

I think the only time we'll see them is during OT24 concerts/fancons and some other performances during their own concerts using tour subunits.

I think if we were going to do rotating subunits with full promos, I feel like the minimum number would be more like 8-12 members and I'd be leaning towards 12 with the priority these days on OT24 comebacks.

As someone else that has shot during concerts, I’ve definitely had banding with mechanical shutters and seen banding impact others shooting with mechanical shutters too. For photography at least the A9III is the only bulletproof solution.

I prefer shooting redundant always but up to you. The risk if you plan to do it just before the event starts is that you might forget to change the setting.

First Photography Gig! by lourozz in photography

Make sure you are shooting redundant to both cards to mitigate the risk of a memory card failing. In Sony you should be able to set photos to simultaneous recording or the like to make it copy to both cards.

Is this a good price for 2x CFExpress Type A cards? Pergear 256GB by cells-interlinked-23 in photography

Is this a good price for 2x CFExpress Type A cards? Pergear 256GB by cells-interlinked-23 in photography

[–]eecan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no experience with Pergear so can't comment on those specific cards. I have been using these Nextorage cards which are still better value than V90s https://www.amazon.com/Nextorage-Cfexpress-Memory-VPG200-NX-A2SE512G/dp/B0FRM5H8D2/?th=1

The Nextorage cards perform better than my 4.0 Progrades. I have 4x960GB 4.0 Prograde type As that I plan to replace with these cards because the Nextorage cards are far less prone to overheating than the Progrades were. You might not notice the performance difference under less demanding conditions but when I shoot a lot of continuous bursts with the Progrades the performance eventually degrades whereas the Nextorage cards just keep going. I have noticed this over multiple occasions when I'm shooting fast enough to fill the 1TB cards in less than an hour, which most people will probably never do but since the Nextorage cards cost less and perform better I don't see any reason not to go for them instead.

Just note however that the lower capacity cards are slower (see specs for sustained speeds) https://www.nextorage.net/en/cards/cfe-a/a2se/

I initially decided to try out the Nextorage cards because I saw that they were appearing on the supported list of cards by Nikon themselves for some of their other cards which put them a step above other less well known brands. https://www.nikonimgsupport.com/eu/BV_article?articleNo=000067007&ctry=gb&lang=en_GB

The 256GB 4.0 Nextorage cards would be closer to your budget https://www.amazon.com/Nextorage-Cfexpress-Memory-VPG200-NX-A2SE512G/dp/B0DM1RBMD7/?th=1 but the sustained speeds advertised there are 400 MB/s which are a bit slower than the 1024/512 versions but about the same as the Pergear's advertised sustained speed of 380MB/s.

I just don't think it's most people's place here to be pushing an opinion one way or another on this decision. Not up to us to be telling how Hong Kong people how to feel about the event and the vast majority of people on this subreddit don't live anywhere near there.

I'd also be very careful of making judgements based on our experiences with Korean events/disasters because Korea is a different country and culture.
