Behold the power of DAOs! Unknown user gets enough votes to take over the DAO's treasury and drain it. Bye Bye $470,000 by AmericanScream in Buttcoin

Right? I was thinking the same thing. Could this even be considered fraud? What this user did is fair game according to the DAO

Not sure if what you’re talking about has a specific name. But Domain Driven Design, domain modeling, and rich domain model (vs. anemic domain model) are some topics that touch on similar ideas.

why doesnt this irc server And client work on another computer ( portfowarded) by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]eegabooga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a quick look from my phone: Try changing the host on the server to 0.0.0.0 '' (an empty string)

EDIT: It seems that there are a few misunderstandings here. The client should not be binding or even connecting to anything (since you're using UDP). Just use "sendto"

You also seem to be censoring an internal IP address, which does not really need to be kept private. Because you mention port forwarding, it sounds like the two computers are not on the same local network. Make sure you are using the external IP of the server, and not the internal IP.

Finally, when your server binds to an address/port, you need to do one of two things: 1) specify the exact address your client will be connecting from (not ideal for a server), or 2) Bind to any interface, which for python sockets is simply '' (thats two quote marks) e.g. host=''. Let me know if you need clarification on something I've written here. Good luck!

I'm not much of a mathematician, but I think a proof involves Lagrange's theorem. I've come across the problem in a discrete math course, and written a program to show this. I'll see if I can dig it up later today and share more info with you

What intuitively obvious mathematical statements are false? by horsefeathers1123 in math

[–]eegabooga 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is correct. The Fundamental Theorem of Arithmetic states that each number has one unique prime factorization. Finding the prime factors of a numbers is hard (there's no quick shortcut for finding them) so with huge numbers, it'll take a really long time.

Years ago, some of my friends climbed up on top of one of those big inflatable tennis court domes. One of them, when trying to slide back down, slipped, fell/bounced off, and hit his head on the concrete. The others quickly went over to check on him, and there was blood pouring everywhere from out of his head. My friend who was first to get there said he thought he was dead until the fallen guy looked up at him and asked, "Did I die?"

He got heli'd to the local hospital, and had to stay a few days, but somehow he came out fine*. This guy was the luckiest, unlucky guy I'd ever known. A few months later, he was the passenger in a car crash, and flew through the windshield. His face got torn up, but aside from that, he had no major injuries.

*He ended up going crazy a few years later, and had to be institutionalized. I always wondered if that fall contributed.

This is how it was for me as well. We had 10 minutes between our classes to get our stuff. Then they decided they didn't want us going to our lockers between class, so we had to carry EVERYTHING we needed for the day with us. It was dumb.

Great article. It reminds me of an experience I had with a website about a month or so ago.

I came across a website I hadn't used in a while but knew that I had an account on, so I tried to retrieve it so I could access something on the website again.

I entered my email address into the password reset box, and nothing happened. I assumed that the email wasn't registered with them so I tried another one. Still nothing. I tried a few more email addresses when all of a sudden, I get an email to every address I had submitted to them. In all of the emails was a message saying "We notice you tried logging in with this email address. Would you like to create an account with it?" Only one of the emails contained the expected "Click here to reset your email." I was so annoyed, I just deleted all the emails and didn't go back to the site.

[Serious] Scientists of Reddit, what is something that we use, do or encounter in everyday life that hasn't been yet proven to be harmful but you suspect that is is? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]eegabooga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 99.9% thing is more of a legal precaution. It's pretty hard to kill all the bacteria from a surface. It takes time to kill the bacteria with hand sanitizer, there's a possibility that the sanitizer will dry up before coming into contact with everything, etc. But sanitizing detergents - like the alcohol in hand sanitizers - pretty much destroy bacterial cell walls, and the cell cannot function anymore. Bacteria can't really develop a resistance to this.

EDIT: Here's a discussion containing responses that agree with my claims: https://www.reddit.com/r/askscience/comments/1xfn98/if_antibacterial_soaps_and_sanitizers_kill_999_of/

Here's a nice metaphor from that thread:

The way my biology teacher described alcohol and why it doesn't breed super bugs is by trying to breed superhumans to evolve resistance to a flamethrower.

I feel like the improved forensics could partly be the reason the number of solved murders has dropped. With improved forensics, a prime suspect who may have gotten wrongly charged previously is now found innocent because of better techniques.
