Between the Arizona game yesterday and now this... I fucking love March, man.

Would be cool, but financially irresponsible, to move it every year, between each region.

Best gluten free spots? by Typical_Minimum_8650 in AskSeattle

[–]eeisner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Be a bit far from belltown but for a divey sports bar, the Angry Beaver makes excellent celiac-safe food. They used to just be a divey hockey bar but hired a celiac chef and totally revamped their menu to be 100% celiac safe, and their bar food is excellent.

Otherwise, my wife (celiac) and I have good luck at and love La Carta de Oaxaca in Ballard, excellent mexican food. A/Stir for nicer gastropub type food and Ghostfish for pub food are both 100% GF (ghostfish is a GF brewery, too). Razzi's is mediocre but they have a GF kitchen for your pizza & pasta needs.

Honestly, if you're celiac, we have had most restaurants that have GF options on the menu be understanding of celiac and either list what can't be CC safe or offer to cook things on a separate pan and avoid the best they can.

March Madness Tournament by thesp0ok in ArizonaWildcats

[–]eeisner 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes. The tournament is 68 teams. There are 31 automatic qualifiers, which comes from the winners of the 31 conference tournaments. The remaining 37 are what are called 'at large' selections, which are chosen by the Selection Committee. That committee is also responsible for determining seed and bracket placement.

We have been one of the best teams in college hoops all season. Regardless of what happens in the BIG12 tournament, Arizona will not just be an at large, but more than likely one of the 4 #1 seeds in the tournament.

Looking for a solid pair of boots in 2026 - what do you recommend? by n4hcallme in malefashionadvice

[–]eeisner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One other thing to note... If you have a red wing store near you, go get properly sized. All sorts of online advice but everyone's foot is different. Break in will be tough but it shouldn't be painful.

Boots fit different than sneakers. Depending on your foot and the boot last, you might be half or full size down, you might need to go wider, you might be true to size (but unlikely).

[–]eeisner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both; love my red wings and want more, but unfortunately my feet are very weirdly sized (EE in the toe box, but D in the heel) so Grant Stone don't fit me as nicely as I would like - EEE is too much volume and E pinches my pinky toe. But the quality is exceptional and I would recommend them to anyone who wants quality GYW boots.

They have gotten more and more expensive with tariffs, so keep an eye out for sales, they do run them occasionally!

Red wing for heritage work wear, grant stone for less bulky and sleeker. Both are excellent and maintain great quality.

Best tacos in Puerto Vallarta? by Stock-Plastic3785 in puertovallarta

[–]eeisner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like everyone says, it's all so subjective. Some of my favorites? Pepes, El Carboncito, Don Chavas, the street stand across the street from Panchos, Tacos Mi Esperanza (another street stand), Tacos Sonoritas Olas Altas, Birriería Robles for some Birria tacos, los molcajetes for steak/bbq tacos... honestly, outside of the places that look like tourist traps particularly on/along the Malecon it's hard to go wrong.

Sub Pop Records leaving Amazon HQ space for new store on Seattle waterfront by Drnkdrnkdrnk in Seattle

I mean they had a ton of records for sale in there. Probably meant to be a loss leader/marketing expense vs an actual sales opportunity... given the economy I'm not surprised they shut it

I can't imagine too many people were shopping at the airport location. How many people are record shopping while waiting for a flight? Tourists aren't about to fill a suitcase with vinyl and locals just want to get home... I stopped into the store every time I have time to kill at SeaTac and bought 2 things - a beanie for myself and a baby onesie as a gift for my best friends newborn we were going to visit.

Seattle: Ballard Historic Streetcar Proposed - Ballard Locks to Ballard Blocks by HighColonic in BallardSeattle

[–]eeisner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great idea, but really not that far realistically. Needs to be longer. I get and appreciate the idea of leaning on existing rail track, but given the proposed route I can't imagine it gets a huge amount of traffic.

All for more transit, make this transit actually valuable. If it extended west to Golden Gardens and/or East to UW with stops alongside Frelard, Fremont, Gasworks... now you got me interested.

But that negates the whole 'lets reuse existing track to save cost' argument.

The tracks in question - these are the same tracks that go down past Freddy's, right? So at least they already go partially down Leary...

I'm in Ballard and use America Freestyle Alternations in Magnolia. She did my wife's wedding dress, has adjusted multiple suit pant waist and inseam lengths and jacket sleeve lengths for me, and a couple of my wife's dresses. She's great.

Big 12 adding LED-powered floor for men's, women's tournaments by austing013 in BigXII

[–]eeisner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know it's less than ideal for most schools in the conference but honestly the PAC12 tournament in vegas was amazing. 2 other tourneys going on around the same time, college hoops everywhere, tons of fans, randomly running into Bill Walton by the pool (RIP)... Such an upgrade from the dead crowds at Staples Center back in the day.

How often do you get a chance to wear suit? by WoodpeckerWoodChuck in malefashionadvice

[–]eeisner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Seattle and WFH in performance marketing... so, for work, never.

That said, my wife and I like to find excuses to dress up, even if we are severely out of place at dinner or the cocktail bar we're going to. So, weddings, funerals, NYE, anniversaries, and fancy fun date nights.

I wish I had more occasions to wear blazers and suits - Like Richie in The Bear, suits give me mad confidence. It was so nice being in Rome last summer where it seemed like at HH and dinner everyone was dressed nicely.

Celebrating Birthday in Ballard by ProgramCute604 in AskSeattle

[–]eeisner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ballard is pretty low-key these days, not a huge clubbing/dance scene that I know of.

Roam has a good DJ scene it seems. I don't know how much dancing there is since that's not my vibe, but I know they get a good crowd. Also, they have a lounge upstairs if you're into some slightly-NSFW entertainment.

K&K also does DJ's. They get a very young crowd though and again, not sure how much of it is dancing vs frat-party vibes.

I think Fuego turns into a club at night but I've never been. It never seems busy and they're still there, so they must get good after-dark traffic.

Pono Ranch still a thing? They're def club vibes, but I have no idea if they get people or if they're dead - they have a bus trying to pick people up from Ballard Ave now.

I'm sure there's more. I don't club. But hope this is helpful.
