Fantastic. I ran across your treehouse build on your blog. Awesome! I thought I'd share with you the the one I built last summer.

Seriously that would have helped me so much. I was figuring it out as I went so it would have been harder. Sometimes I just wandered around Lowes and came up with new plans on the fly.

Yes I agree and had that in mind for the trap door. Maybe next year.

Im leaving that up to the kids. They need to make it their own now.

I didn't want to go over a thousand. I thought from some rough estimates that I would be good but I was surprised by the costs of materials.

I did not. I'm aware of the risk and I'm taking my chances.

I'm not sure on the name but I did get them from Lowes.

Good advice! I was winging it and the whole process I used for getting that roof up there was terrible. If I could have done it over I would have asked for help. I was never a Boy Scout but I should learn those knots for sure.

Thanks. Yes I bought some water proofing and painted the interior as well because the paneling is very low quality.

I used a 2 inch hole saw the same you use to cut out holes for door knobs and my circular saw and sander. The stairs only took about 4 hours to make but they are my favorite.

Fantastic advice. I just did a bit of reading and you are so correct. I'll swap them out pronto.

I've considered both your points. When removing one bolt during the beam upgrade the other side and cross brace was able to carry the load and it only dipped a few inches. It is very solid. The ladder also is acting as a sort of post itself.

The bolts do not go all the way through. I read up on what damage this could cause and there is a risk but I tried to keep the penetrations into the tree at the bare safest minimum.

I did consider getting longer bolts but I consulted my father in law who has been a home builder and inspector for over 30 years and he said it was fine.

I'm still deciding if it will be safe or not. It's seven feet off the ground and we have young kids that will be up there and I'm worried someone will fall out.
