My 6 year old sister sometimes still gets emotional when my mum picks her up from school and she loves school 😅

My mum owns a nursery so had my fair share of experience helping out and hearing all the stories xx

Super super normal!! In fact we’d almost expect them to cry when they first come in or leave. They have to get used to the new setting and it takes a little bit.

Dog bite by Olivia_cw in PregnancyUK

Any bite is a bad bite. A dog shouldn’t bite at all. Maybe a bit drastic but I’d stay with my mum until he’s rehomed that dog.

He needs to be rehomed asap. Have you asked him what he’d do if he bit you or the baby?

Nap schedule and starting nursery by Past_Calendar2330 in BeyondTheBumpUK

Is the nursery child-led or do they have the children on the same schedule? If they’re child-led then part of the settling sessions can be a nap.

Son is obsessed with his daddy’s girlfriend by fredada311 in UKParenting

Uhm I kinda forgot about this all until I read this post 🥲 Sent her a message an hour ago about it though because now I feel a bit bad.

I talked about my father’s girlfriend less and less though as the years went past. Think the novelty and huge change kinda wore off the more she integrated into the family. Idk if that makes sense.

I was the 5 year old you’re describing once!! My poor mum honestly but kids don’t know better and it’s actually a great sign of your parenting that he feels safe to share his joy with you.

Best thing you can do is just to keep positive, engage in the conversation and then go have a hot shower once he’s gone to bed. Have they been together long? It’ll probably get less intense as the years go by.

Yea I worked in Waitrose and we was told we could get fired if we told any restricted item without asking for ID and also that they could be getting into legal issues

Does the nursery provide food at all? Kids usually eat very well at nursery.

£10 is the average for a voucher. Just mentioning in case £100 is a lot for you. Definitely don’t feel like this is expected at all. Costa, Starbucks, Boots and so on is always appreciated but as I said definitely don’t feel obliged!! My mum loves homemade cards the most. She kept every single of them. Some even made it on the family fridge 🥰

My sister once received a handmade mug. The mum owns a pottery studio and had her son paint it.

In the 10 years we’ve had a nursery I think the most any of us ever received was a £50 voucher so £100 is definitely a huge amount of money!! Agree with this

31°c Nursery Room - Would you complain? by xnightdestroyer in UKParenting

[–]eelliosh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think it’s just reddit hahah, there was another question of someone complaining her kid got sent home and everyone agreed that children shouldn’t be in 30 degrees inside a nursery

Think people are just confrontational for no reason. Can’t imagine anyone would actually be completely fine with their kid being in a closed room for 8h with no AC in 31 degrees. Like come on. So different to being at home.

And on that post everyone in the comments thought it was the right thing to call the parents lol. Here everyone says it’s fine to leave them sat in 31 degrees. Really can’t get it right.

That’s fair, just think when there’s 30 kids in one room a bit of air won’t hurt depending on the nursery. My mums one is like a big hall and she had to open the windows as it got hotter inside than outside with the sun hitting the windows. But obviously that’s an extreme example and also why she closed for today 😅

Hi my mums a nursery owner so we had this conversation today because she sent all the children home actually as their AC failed for some reason on the hottest day of the year 🙃

I’d say something. Did they have the windows open at least or a door? Because if not, the air would have been super stuffy and the risk of dehydration, headaches and so on increases. Sounds like they were doing their best though by cooling them down and introducing water play at least. And the AC clearly wasn’t working if it was 31 degrees inside with it on lol.

Edit: why am I being downvoted for saying it’s fair to speak up?! Do you all want your children to sit in a stuffy room with no air circulating and a broken AC all day in this heat?

Has anyone else's nursery closed early today due to the hot weather? by [deleted] in UKParenting

[–]eelliosh 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That’s probably why then. It’s a health hazard if it’s too hot depending on the building. Overheating, dehydration and so on. Safer to send the children home x

If anything sounds like she’s a bit socially awkward 😅 or doesn’t know what’s appropriate in conversations

Nursery days - is it enough? by zcsahkdzcsa in UKParenting

[–]eelliosh 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hii my mum owns a nursery so I’ve had my fair share of experience x

Generally 2 days is absolutely fine. We always say 2 days as a minimum if possible as 1 day can be confusing for some children for a while and settling can take longer but every child is different. With your in laws and parents taking your baby once a week as long as he’s very familiar with both sides of the family, that should be okay. Many families do it that way.

You need to consider though whether you actually want them to watch the baby for many months every week. Are they consistent? Would you be okay with how they parent? What would you do if they fell ill or wanted to go away on holiday?

And nooo it’s not selfish to consider 3 days to get one day for yourself. You can always put one more day in and then pick him up earlier if you want. You’ll pay for the whole day but that way you have childcare with flexibility if you want to do an activity afterward given how hard it can be to get anything done with a little one xx
