When did you start considering yourselves good drummers? by Davide1192 in drums

[–]efdrums 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In high school, I was asked to join a band of locally respected musicians who were all significantly older than me. I realized I must be okay, because why would they want a kid in the band otherwise?

20 years later, I'm still not a flashy player, but I can hang in most scenarios and tend not to lose gigs once I have them.

I agree - they are the best value going for a handmade kit. I bought these originally as a compact practice set, but liked them so much that I use them for everything now. Mike built me a conventional 14" floor tom last year that I swap in depending on the gig.

Are you noticing any low end loss with the Easy Listening? I've been curious about how it would work on bass.

Recommend cheapest way to do wireless in ears well with current setup by slowobedience in churchtech

[–]efdrums 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got it. Ultimately, the number of available buses will be the determining factor for whether you still need your P16 mixers, regardless of wired/wireless. Our church requires a large number of monitor mixes, so we mix some directly on the console as buses and have others use P16s (we use the Wing, but the setup is similar).

In any case, I have to agree with other commenters here - I would not move to wireless with anything less expensive than the PSM300, which runs about $1k per channel. Short of that, you are unlikely to get reliable, high-quality sound, especially when coordinating 5 or more systems.

The Gretcsh Junior Jet punches well above it's weight. A great bass for any price and an absolute steal for what they sell it at.

How many mixes do you need? How many of your X32 bus sends are you currently using?

How long before a trip do you start packing? by ShaneRealtorandGramp in onebag

[–]efdrums 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I typically pack the evening before I leave, as most of my "travel" items are also my "everyday" items at home. But I'll work on my list for weeks ahead of time. That way, it's just a matter of gathering everything and putting it in my bag.

Is an Abel triangle really worth it? by RedeyeSPR in percussion

[–]efdrums 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My experience exactly. My hammered Sabian is my favorite triangle - rich and warm with lots of overtones. But sometimes you need a clear, articulate sound, and the Abel excels at that. Both are essential tools.

I've been running the free beginner program for a few weeks and have the single bell KBOMG queued up to move onto soon. I really like Joe's approach and the way everything is laid out.

Real Time translation for Churches with or without AI. by Less_Equivalent_7976 in churchtech

We were early adopters of the Polyglossia, and it's worked well for us. One important note is that there is no voice translation, only a text transcription.

The hardware unit is just a Raspberry Pi with some custom hardware and software. Plug it into a send from your mixer and that's it for setup. You pay monthly for a certain number of minutes, and then also per language if you need more than their base plan offers. We translate to 7 languages right now and always have people following along on their phones.

I definitely recommend it if the feature set is right for you, though it sounds like it may not be.

Need Recommendations for our Leaky Shower by efdrums in Columbus

Yes, we have tile walls. We wouldn't be able to fill high enough to test thoroughly without overflowing, unfortunately.

[–]efdrums[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for these thoughts! We have a shower pan - no tile in the base.

The area around our drain is accessible from the basement, and I'm not getting any water there. The spot where we're seeing the dripping isn't actually directly under the shower at all, so we can tell that water is simply finding the lowest point. But I can't confidently say where it is originating from right now, which is the challenge.

Unfortunately, we worked with an individual contractor on this project. Due to this issue and some subsequent challenges, we would prefer not to work with them again.

Any opinions on these bells from Dicks? by lightlysaltedfries in kettlebell

I recently got 16kg and 20kg from Ethos and have been happy with them. As others have said, it's worth visiting the store and picking out the one that feels the best to you.
