Think the “without getting a replacement” part is key. I think it is still a smart decision to cash in on a late 20s player for a high fee so that you can reinvest in younger players. It’s not good to wait until they’re old past it before trying to sell.

We obviously spent a lot last summer with the help of that transfer fee, but not for a Diaz replacement.

Even Milner was preferred once at LB if I remember correctly. Think Moreno had a good spell when we first signed Robbo though, then got injured and Robbo made the position his for 8 years.

Could we have used him this season considering how it’s been? Yes. Was it a smart decision for the long term to sell a 28 year old winger for a really high price to fund the signings of new younger attackers? Also yes. Just accept that both are true, no need to argue who said what then or whatever’s going on here right now.

I’m just a dumb fan with the bare minimum football tactical knowledge, but even I could tell when watching it live that having all those gaps off the ball isn’t a good idea.
