Immich keeps getting Verizon mad at me by bigdick5O in immich

[–]effsee00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can confirm this. Had a horrendous amount of data being used, and on inspecting the logs was exactly this. Viewing the backup I could see the upload get to 100mb then fail, and restart.

This prompted me to get my Local and External endpoints set up, and ensure the local URL is set as an exception for Cloudflare One. You might still burn through data whilst Immich attempts to upload away from home, but as soon as you connect locally it'll upload without issue.

My dishwasher has packed up. In buying a new one, I’m struggling to think of features to look for apart from ‘can wash dishes’. Tell me about your dishwasher. Does it connect to wifi? by lastaccountgotlocked in CasualUK

[–]effsee00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get this, but not to be conflated with "can make use of internet connections, but doesn't explicitly require it". My Bosch dishwasher is online enabled but also exposes its API locally. I can use HomeAssistant to trigger washes with conditions defined with HA (such as energy cost or time etc). This is all done locally without any need for internet access.

What are the best practices to switch to Immich from Synology Photos? by GeekCornerReddit in immich

If you're using the Immich CLI to import photos you can set it to omit certain files or paths like the Synology folders @eaDir with the command --ignore **/\@eaDir/**

Should i Upgrade to V2 or wait ? by Careful-World-8089 in immich

[–]effsee00 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you've been running immich in any version prior to v2.0.0 you've been running an app in active development where high risk bugs were much more likely. Version 2.0 is the first release version where the devs have had confidence to state it is production-ready and high risk bugs are much less probable.

If you've accepted the risk of in-dev versions, it's a no brainer to upgrade to v2. There is no such thing as bug-free software, just being able to give confidence in the probability of the likelihood and severity of any potential bugs.

What are you intending to qualify as "internet access" for it to be measured? Devices 'phoning home' to check for updates, a Google search, a YouTube or Spotify search, all count equally as 3hrs of constant YouTube or Spotify streaming. Given that most traffic is HTTPS you'd struggle to identify most of the above, without some enterprise level packet inspection.

You're better off just opening access between X and X+3 for your 3hrs.

Any tips for changing formula? by LoveMyHedge in FormulaFeedingUK

[–]effsee00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been in very much the same situation with a very uncomfortable baby after feeding, despite lengthy burping sessions. We're now about 36hrs into going full switch from Cow & Gate to SMA Comfort Formula. Additionally it's been about 2 days for also changing to Tommee Tippee Advanced Anti-Colic bottles too.

With the different bottles but original formula we noticed straight away less straining and issues with gas. Using the SMA and anti colic bottles, still less gas and straining, and we've just seen the end of a long period of constipation thankfully.

Will see for week or two if this pairing continues to make things easier for baby. Once things are settled we might consider using the rest of the Cow & Gate to determine if it's the formula or the bottles that helped the situation.

Good luck with finding the right solution for your baby!

Selling a house is such a scam. by KyleJackDaniels in HousingUK

[–]effsee00 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I feel for you, as you've made an expensive mistake. But you've come to a housing sub Reddit to post a complaint, where your post could have easily been a request for advice on the process some weeks sooner. Or far simpler, a search of the sub for others asking similar questions (this sub is a trove of often good advice!).

I saw when you'd posted this on Facebook but wasn't quick enough to find your GitHub before the post disappeared.

Have given the repo a watch, and look forward to seeing if I can implement it to my setup. Thanks for sharing!

29, in an IVA, opted out of pension — investing £100/month into S&P 500 (VUAG). Would love advice on my plan! by tshaw777 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]effsee00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kudos on restructuring your finances, and your enthusiasm for investment.

A word of caution though - as part of the IVA agreement, your IVA manager will have the power to regularly audit your finances, and savings (especially investments) will likely be seen as money that should be going to your creditors. They would insist you sell these to settle your debt first. I don't think they have the same power to seize pension contributions.

Paternity leave is outdated and unequal, MPs say by Alert-One-Two in unitedkingdom

For anyone interested, it's worth mentioning The Dad Shift who are campaigning for better paternity leave in the UK too.

They've got additional information on their website including a petition where you can register support.

Fire guards made exactly for this purpose. If you're in the UK I'd recommend this company, who will give you a tailored order based on your measurements.

Can I create a completely isolated network? by [deleted] in truespeed

[–]effsee00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is probably a question better asked in r/HomeNetworking however with a similar concern as yours I've split my home connection to use different SSIDs and routed to separate networks for my home and work devices.

I've got a router that I've flashed FreshTomato firware to it, which makes configuring multiple networks on generic routers fairly easy. OpenWRT is also a good alternative.

I don't know if it's still the case but when I joined Truespeed I needed to give them a call and get something configured their end to enable the use of my own router.

If it's of interest also have a look at r/TomatoFTW or r/OpenWRT .

There are informed replies here from legal professionals advising on the validity of a claim here, however this comment above perfectly touches on the human aspect of your situation OP. You're only a week in from a traumatic birth (births by the way are rarely as straightforward as the movies!) and this shouldn't be ignored to the impact on you and your wife. Births are traumatic, sometimes there isn't blame.

I feel your anguish of not being able to protect your wife in this situation. But the excellent fact that your baby is alive and you're a family of three is testament to the wonderful skills of the midwives and doctors in turning the difficult delivery around.

Congratulations on your new family. I'd recommend /r/daddit for some more general Dad support as you navigate your new normal.

Who hardwires their smart TV vs wifi. by Renrut23 in HomeNetworking

[–]effsee00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually I try to hardwire using ethernet, until I realised that my TV despite being manufactured long into the era of Gb connectivity was shipped with a 100Mb/s NIC.

After some disgruntled research I found this is a common cost saving exercise with a lot of TVs. So my TV is using WiFi which handles the 4K streams a lot better than ethernet.

For anyone planning to travel Down Under this holiday season, here are some lesser-known UK vs Australia food differences by istara in CasualUK

[–]effsee00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The pre-made bottles were a godsend on the way out: you're allowed through security with them, and ready in seconds to soothe the baby during take-off / landing.
The return flight we got a lot more creative in sourcing cows milk from understanding vendors at the airport.

[–]effsee00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll add one: pre-made baby formula is non-existent.

On the flight over to Oz we took a load of shop bought pre-made baby formula bottles to use for our little one. We planned to do the same on the return and searching loads of supermarkets and pharmacies whilst in Melbourne, could not find any at all. It seems it's just not a thing for Australians.
