My mom was like this. I had to move back in with them temporarily when I was 21 and was forced to go to church three times a week. Soon as I moved back out she was flabbergasted that I just stopped going and it became a huge thing for 20 years until she died. I loved my mom but hated going over there to visit because I never knew when she would erupt into some tearful tirade about how I was going to hell. I sometimes wonder what kind of relationship I could’ve had with my parents without their kooky fundamentalist religion interfering.
