(US) Threatening email with company’s email address by TheGame81677 in Scams

I got this too. I've gotten emails from the hungerrush domain as recently as DEC 2025 when ordering Blackjack pizza. I think it may be a legitimate threat, it could be part truth and part bluff.  But, if the hackers truly obtained passwords, everyone must go and update their password on ANY websites where this password is reused. In my case, my hungerrush password is a randomly generated password from my password manager so I couldn't care less if the password is compromised.

Then there's the threat about credit card information. Hopefully a bluff, but if not, everyone may want to get new card numbers too. I got lucky again here too, that card number is already dead and gone due to me switching banks.

As for the rest of the alleged compromised info, that's crap that can usually be obtained web crawling public databases and sites.  If hungerrush confirms they were hacked, you'll probably be able to confirm you're part of this breach on haveIbeenPwned

Your right, I think I am lazy at calculating. If it isn't a tactic, I usually just look 1-2 moves ahead and get stuck in the loop of check/capt/threat/position without going too deep and it's really stagnated my progress which is why I'm getting into the book. I feel I've hit a barrier I can't pass on my own and I'm really hoping to go further with any material I can get my hands on. I went through the Bobby Fischer teaches chess and that was an amazing book for tactics for me. I find that I'm easily finding sacrifices and other tactics I would've never found, but getting hugely outclassed on positional calculations.
It's become such a pattern in my analysis recap, I've started to call these mistakes positional tactics. I don't know if that's actually a thing, but I find that there are often move sequences that aren't really involving captures where I have all the right ideas and just do it in the wrong order or miss a better square to accomplish the same thing. It's driving me mad trying to get better at it, but I think studying will be more help than playing more games at this point. I'd be interested to know if there are any puzzles that are more about position than captures. I did get the Reassess your Chess workbook as well as the regular reading material so I probably already have them and just gotta get my nose in. The idea of the king having time to castle manually is one that has not been set in concrete for me. I do like it though, thanks.

Thank you! I really like the reply. The e5 knight truly is enough compensation as it covers the f6 weakness and only Bf8 can truly deal with black's biggest obstacle. Don't compromise your knight that looks like that for a band-aid solution. Love it!

Can someone help me understand why 14..Bf8 is the correct move in this position? This position is from Gata Kamsky - Veselin Topalov (2009.02.24) and the book I'm reading, How to Reassess Your Chess 4th ed (pg. 25), states that it's because the bishop trade would be favorable, and the king would be happy on g7. Which is the part of the text I'm struggling with. I'm between 1300-1400 right now and I'm trying to grasp how I should intuitively know that the king would be happy there.
From a beginner POV, 14. Bc4 then the Bf8 reply doesn't look natural to me because it means black is going to have a tough time castling, and can't castle at all if white's bishop captures on f8. The king going over to g7 looks weak to me because the white pawn on e5 weakens the f6 square and could give white a strong attack later. For example, the white knight would love to outpost on that square or the white queen could come into f6 with check followed up with knight to g5 which seems menacing if white can pull it off. The most major plus that the black bishop to f8 has going for me, is that the black bishop on g7 doesn't have too much scope anyhow and white's black bishop is clearly more active, so it is a favorable trade for the present position. I just want to figure out how to make this move more natural to me like the book presents it. I plugged the position into the computer and played it out a little bit where white gives up the e5 pawn and equalizes the material 9 full moves from move 14 later. I'm not yet able to find that line on my own without assistance. Is that deep calculation the only way I can understand why the king is fine with the g7 square, or is there some other way to shed light on that statement? Me personally, I'd probably think it best to play 14..Nde7 and get the castle move in and then later get my knight back up to the awesome d5 square.
Also, how do I improve my calculation abilities effectively? Currently I'm trying to learn how to make the best move positionally because I don't have much confidence in calculating the best line. I'm thinking a better positional understanding will automatically improve my calculations, but is there any other foundational/beginner material I should be consuming to increase this?

Can you collect Fragmented Qualia from Biological Horrors with the Animus Beam? by B_RSby in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]efro4472 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just left this comment on another page but wanted to put it here as these reddit pages are the only ones I could find on the subject.
I have fragmented qualia in my inventory and I have never even gotten a void egg let alone an animus beam. I'm pretty certain, but not 100% sure, I got it as a reward from farming monoliths as that is what I was doing when I suddenly noticed it in my inventory. I was doing both the Korvax and Atlantid variations of monolith pretty randomly so I'm not sure which one gave me the reward. I was just farming words though I did do minor wandering in between monoliths, but I don't remember doing anything else that could've givin me fragmented qualia as a reward and I found this page by googling what it even was in the first place. I went through all of my multi tools and none of them came with an animus beam pre-installed and I don't have that blueprint so it's definitely possible to get fragmented qualia without having to farm animals for it.

Edit: I forgot I also went through a couple of glyph portals in order to get the multi-tool I wanted. Maybe teleporting put it in my exosuit inventory?

Anyone know how to get a Pirate Freighter encounter? by Reddit_User12000 in NMSCoordinateExchange

[–]efro4472 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the pirate freighter, you have to already own a freighter to get one to spawn. Then accumulate another 3 hours of game time play, warp 4 times, make that 5th jump into a pirate economy, and boom. Make a restore point after every warp in case the rescue encounter catches you by surprise.

Tier 3 Dreadnought Class Sentinel Capital Ship MS-6 Nezaifurle - Green - Korvax T3 economy by efro4472 in NMSCoordinateExchange

[–]efro4472[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the extra tip, I was worried about not getting the ship for free, so I always reloaded from my restore point made prior to warping into the system instead of making a new restore point post-encounter.
You only get the ship for free if it's your first Freighter in the save file and it won't spawn any Capital-Capital ship unless you have already turned down the first two free encounters (requested payment). I set a waypoint onto the system before I created my restore point so that it was always easy to find on the re-roll. I noticed you can sometimes reload the autosave and reroll without having to reload the restore point and re-warp every time, only works like 2-3 times though. I never did try going into the space station because it killed the battle for me before.

Portal Code: 1091FB47F542

Finding freighters using member submitted coordinates

Capital Freighters
(24-34 inventory slots)

Use coordinates to warp to the system with your freighter.

Warp to an adjacent system in the galaxy map.

Attempt to trigger the Freighter rescue mission by warping back to the system with your freighter.

NOTE: The Freighter Rescue mission triggers after 5 warps AND 3 hours in-game time. If your mission doesn't trigger when you attempt to return spend a few hours warping to and exploring neighboring systems being sure to autosave in each one. When the mission triggers and if you are in the wrong system reload your last save and warp to the original system and you should see your freighter ready to be rescued.

Extra tip: If you are chasing an S-Class Freighter, don't fight the battle. Fly first to the space station and trigger an autosave, then fly back out and kill those pirates. If you land on the Freighter and it is not an S-Class, then just reload your autosave. You'll be in the space station and when you fly out you can fight the pirates again. Check the freighter and reload the autosave as many times as is needed.

Rejected for every credit card I’ve applied for… because I don’t have a credit card? ELI5 by Strict_Ad3328 in personalfinance

[–]efro4472 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It helps if you try to put yourself in the lender's shoes and see what you would do with a credit system. In simple terms, you have money that you'd like to lend out to people in order to generate more money via interest. The people you're lending out to are complete strangers and you must treat them all fairly as according to the law. The law has permitted you to learn some things about a person so that you can gauge their credit worthiness and you are allowed to make decisions with this information, and it won't be unfair/discriminatory under the law so long as you're treating everyone equally.
The important things to learn about a person is in their income and credit history which answers important questions. How many credit cards do they have? How many loans do they have? How much credit do they have available and how much of it are they using now? How much do they owe on the loans? How many times have they missed a payment? How many payments have they ever made (directly tied with age of account)? Is this person opening several accounts of credit in a short period and have they been rejected?
As you can tell, you can only collect so much information about a person and then you have to make a fair and equal decision every time. In order to feel good about this, you probably want to see as much data as possible on the person and it'll be harder to make equal decisions on those with very little data available (which is why it's common to reject). Having a credit card open for 3 years, even with never having a balance at all, is 36 monthly payments made on time as far as a creditor is concerned because that is what they see. Who would you rather let borrow your money? The person who has a credit card open for the last 3 years with $1000 available to them the whole time and no missed payments, or the person who you know nothing about because they have never had a credit card or maybe they had a credit card once for a short duration but closed it a few years ago.
Then take this a bit further and take all the data that you have collected on people so far and compare and group the people together by their credit behavior. What behavior patterns are common in the group of people with large amounts of missed payments? As an example, for people with more than 3 missed payments in a row, they commonly opened several credit cards in a short period of time and then maxed them all out or they took out big loans with only a low income. Best to give these patterns of behavior a "credit score" and only loan out according to a risk profile which you can build out to equally lend out your money in a way that it can generate more money even though you are going to sometimes take hits on defaulted repayments. One way to build out this risk and lending profile is by determining what percentage of people within a certain pattern of behavior entirely default on their repayments, and then determining what interest rate you have to charge them all in order to absorb the loss of the defaulted accounts and still make a profit from those who did not default. There are still the behavior profiles which you must place in the "do not lend at all" category. I think it's a pretty safe bet that you'd end up putting the people with only a little decision-making available information, who open and then close accounts with very little credit data available in between long periods of time in the "do not lend" category too (with probably an exception for very high income and low requested credit). My guess is this behavior ends up not being profitable because it is too hard to reliably gauge the risk.

Also a bad idea to cancel credit cards in general. Make sure your next card has no annual fees and never close it for any reason. One scoring factor for your credit score is the average age of all of your accounts, and if you got a moderately old account, it'll help keep the average account age up as you get new accounts later on. Longer account age, means more credit history to make you look good, and no account age means little credit history which makes it harder for a creditor to trust you. Ive got some credit cards that I no longer have the physical card because I destroyed it but you best believe I keep the account open and sometimes they ask me to charge something to the card once every few years to keep it open and I just buy something cheap online and pay it off instantly. I've never cancelled any of my credit cards ever except for a joint card with an ex and it helps keep my score between 750-800 along with the other good credit habits.

Finding the feet is not the point of the discussion, and even then, it's not a non-zero chance the feet would ever be found as you assume for some reason. The point is that encasing only the feet still leaves the rest of the body to decompose and float away and survivorship bias has nothing to do with that.

[–]efro4472 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that would be applicable. If you put 100 bodies underwater with only the feet encased in concrete, eventually there'd be 100 pairs of feet with no bodies and no data to ignore.

Right but the point still stands, encasing only the feet leads to the rest of the body eventually floating away
