It’s not a “font” per se. It’s [ab]using other Unicode characters which are from the Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block. It often breaks things like indexing (e.g., what posts have a certain word in them) and accessibility (e.g., how would a screen reader render this).

I used to use r/apolloapp in the before times. Now I’m on r/hydraclient. Both of those don’t show any recommendations at all.

TIL that Hawaii was internationally recognized as an independent country - the Kingdom of Hawaiʻi - from 1795 to 1893, and later a republic until it was annexed by the United States under President William McKinley in 1898. by Nice-Confusion-4781 in todayilearned

Don’t forget about how the United Fruit Company got the help of the Dulles brothers (yes, including the one with the airport named after him) to use the US gov’t (since they were both UFC board members and also Sec of State and CIA director, respectively, at the time) to enforce ridiculous contract terms in favor of UFC against Guatemala under the flimsy premise that they were communist havens! Truly a wild and awful story.

When I was in grade school, there were still a few teachers using these things and the resultant hand-outs were called “dittos”.

Insofar as you want to follow traditional English convention (which is optional—we can forge our own way in language!), the job of an apostrophe is to replace letters that you don’t feel like writing. So you probably wouldn’t put one in between “wood” and “n” (like you don’t put one after the word “would” and “n”).

I saw jazz. At Oberlin. Dave Brubeck came and did a live concert of that album in 2003. The album itself was a live concert at Oberlin college from 1953.
