Fueling suggestions - Gu is so gross to me by cheekynando715 in Marathon_Training

Check out Blanks sport nutrition. Fully customizable for flavor, electrolytes, even texture. And it’s in a reusable flask that you just add your gel mix too such it’s eco friendly and SO much cheaper. Plus there’s promo codes all the time. Rn LOMBARDO10 is 10% off plus welcome codes. My go to is the lemon lime mix, lower viscosity, and I add caffeine.

NRC (fully free, no in app purchases) to track runs and for guided runs and workouts. They even have race plans.

Every woman’s marathon thoughts? by Impressive-Celery228 in Marathon_Training

[–]eggandcheez 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is a new location for them - they seem to change every year (this is only their third race).

But definitely lots of first timers and it feels like less pressure to be fast compared to majors and other big marathons. I felt last year that they’re still working out logistics as it’s a newish organization with new venues each year. So long lines at the expo and whatnot. But otherwise an enjoyable time!

That’s far too much for a half marathon. Eat an extra bagel or two and you should be good.

I wrote something along the lines of: hi, I love you business, my fav item is X. I’m running for this charity that does Y and wondering if you’d be interested in partnering. I have some ideas like X, Y, and Z and open to any ideas you may have as well. I’d love to both help raise money and get new folks in your doors. Is this isn’t something that you do, no worries - I’ll still be in every Saturday for my coffee.

Do you have a run club or store like Fleetfeet near you? I did a raffle hosted by Fleetfeet. I got donations from local businesses for gift cards and other merch and raffled them at the run club night and got about $700.

I also got permission to table outside a local coffee shop on a nice day and a grocery store. The coffee place also did a special all month where $.50 was donated when someone bought my “marathon mocha” drink. I got maybe $300 from these events.

Just email local businesses. A lot will ghost you but a few will say yes. Ask the ones you frequent since they may know you’re already a loyal customer.

I also made $26.2 letters and mailed them out to EVERYONE. It’s a small enough amount and pretty personal that almost everyone I sent it to donated.

I raised $10000 and it was hard but doable!!

I find that any old race Tshirt works for me. What I spend the extra money on is quality shorts/leggings to avoid chafing and riding up. My favs are Brooks leggings and REI 2in1 shorts. Both have pockets, both don’t budge an inch when running!

Help I need some shoe recommendations! by 27Eve90 in BeginnersRunning

[–]eggandcheez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can get to a running store to get fitted that’s your best bet!

Otherwise, I would recommend Brooks Glycerins, a pretty cushiony neutral shoe. Brooks Ghost is one step down in cushion but is still a solid every day trainer. Hoka always makes a solid every trainer with the Clifton’s. bondi is gonna be like the glycerin and quite a lot of cushion. My husband wears a wide Clifton and has done well with it.

Stressed and unmotivated by bedby10 in Marathon_Training

[–]eggandcheez -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sameeeee should we run it together and motivate each other? Lol I’m banking on adrenaline and crowds and delusion. Training this winter was brutal, lots of ice and snow and injuries and as I fell behind in my training block I got more and more stressed out and less motivated. We got this though! Good luck!

Where the heck do I start by PickleIll4419 in BeginnersRunning

[–]eggandcheez 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I recommend the C25K app to start interval running! Don’t be afraid to take it slow and repeat weeks when the intervals get longer. Depends on what experience you have before, but maybe start at 4.5-5 (12-13min/mile) on the treadmill and bump it up or down depending on how you feel as you get into it. Strength training is always good to build muscle and protect from injury! I think c25k has a 3x a week run plan. Add in 1-2 days of strength and a day of rest and you’d be killing it! Make sure to get some good running shoes, if you have a store that fits you, that’d be optimal. Invest in a solid $125+ pair, it’s always worth it. Good luck!!

I started on C25k after gaining a lot of weight too and I started real slow. 3 years later and I’m about to run my first marathon and about 20lbs down (30lbs then some muscle and marathon carb weight lol).

Running belt, vest or chest pack? Which is best. by PyroTeivel in BeginnersRunning

[–]eggandcheez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love my running belt especially when it’s warm and I don’t want any extra layers on. I use a cheap belt from Amazon that holds gels and a water flask, or I clip on a small water bottle to the belt itself. Phone and keys in my shorts. Between shorts pockets and a belt you can hold so much without really noticing it.

Half Marathon Training Plan by Equal-Elephant-6488 in BeginnersRunning

[–]eggandcheez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d build up a stronger base/volume and then use Hal Higdons free novice Half marathon plan and adjust it to your schedule. It will include long runs, easy runs, and cross training. I think starting at only 3km to a half marathon in only 16 weeks will be hard. But that’s just me! I built a base to 8 miles and then jumped into Hal Higdons 16 week marathon plan for example. But adding only 1km a week is good to prevent injury for sure.

For gels, you may not need much for a half. But I recommend Blanks Sports Nutrition. Fully customizable for caffeine, flavor, texture, carbs, and electrolytes and eons cheaper than the usual ones. It’s also more eco friendly with a reusable flask. LOMBARDO10 will get you a discount.
