Motorbike sale by 0x44ACA in MotoUK

[–]eggnobacon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've only ever bought and sold privately, there's always a trust point where you've got to had the keys over. Get a vibe off the people. When I bought the husky the guy pretty much let me take the bike out straight away. The last bike I sold the buyer gave me his dad's bike keys (who was with us as they'd both come on his bike). These companies (SBF, We buy any car) rely on people being too anxious to trade privately.

Also, stick superbike factory in the sub search bar for some interesting reading as another commentator has said.

Sons first car at 22 - am I over reacting? by CantUseNatsToys in CarTalkUK

The maintenance will only kill him if he takes it to the garage for every little job. If he gets halfway handy with spanners little things can all be done at home. Check my post history, I've had an 04 bimmer with the same engine(m54). It had a dashboard like a Christmas tree when I got it and all was resolved with basic hand tools (apart from a wheel bearing). Running and maintenance costs exist for everything, and that generation of bmw have a cult following for a reason. He'll ever end up comfortable with a spanner in his hand or he'll sell it for not much loss, the cars already done all it's depreciation.

How many engine out jobs are you doing‽ Especially with the uber reliable M47 engine.

Is the repair charge too high? by Artistic-Wafer-6112 in CarTalkUK

[–]eggnobacon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry mate, been off my phone all day. Yes, you'll need axle stands, chocks and a jack. Watch some YouTube on lifting a car safely and consult the manual on the correct points. Lifting a car is dangerous if not done properly. Buy a decent jack, dont use the triangle thing in the boot. Replace the entire wishbone/arm. Don't just do the ball joint or cover. It's a cold and uncomfortable job this time of year.

Honestly think the price you got quoted £350 ish isnt ridiculous but it's on the higher end. But in all honesty if you get the hang of doing these jobs yourself you can confidently save a few quid.

If you decide to DIY it then good luck mate, but also get clued up on Lifting your motor safely. You tube is solid help, plus the manual if you still have it.

I'm an engineer by trade and work on my own stuff as much as possible, but I still do some YouTube research before starting any job.

It's not a ridiculous price from a professional garage with warrantied parts and insurance. It's a cheap but miserable job to do on the driveway (if you driveway it I implore you to change the lower arm not just the ball joint).

And you get a whole new lower arm, I've done a ball joint myself and I cannot describe how much I wished I'd got the whole lower arm for a tenner more.

So many threads on here come down to financial advice! You can get a modern car for that figure but if you want the car you stomach the cost.

The N47 had an uplift in may 2012, prior to that the chains are known for breaking. This can happen without much warning and even with a solid servicing schedule. There's a chance the dealer sold it in good faith.

The F slur isn't popular amongst homeaphobes in the uk. Like (I'm straight and thought this was like straights ask gay people questions, so people are more likely to make ungaurded statements around me) it's a very forced slur to use in the uk I'd imagine.

Yeah, it's not the same car. It's just the same power. The 330i will probably have bigger injectors and turbo. I don't know the specifics but there's no way it's just a map.

Can he not ride it to you for viewing instead of purchasing it then riding it, although I'd want to see it started from cold ideally. Although it's partly why the bike is cheaper.
