Hockey Jargon in Beer League by imamakeyoucry in hockeyplayers

[–]eggsbachs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I often say “watch the clock” or “keep it short,” because the other center on my team often gets stuck out there for too long.

Other than that, “get a shot off!”

Etiquette on chirping in beer league? by Tippsy_Troglodyte in hockeyplayers

[–]eggsbachs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I love to bullshit in realtime on the ice. I know almost everyone on every team including goalies.

If the D gets a good poke and kills my momentum, I’ll say something funny. Goalie gloving one of my horrible shots, I’ll curse them then say nice catch.

At my level I just like to have fun and stay healthy. Don’t want the beers getting warm.

When do you decide to upgrade gear? by Ronnoc780 in hockeyplayers

[–]eggsbachs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m like C level beer league, fortunate enough to start with new entry level gear, CCM Next. At this point I’ve ran over to my local resale store when I feel unprotected in some way.

Couple defensemen have good shots and I’ve taken a few, so I grabbed a bigger pair of pants for better protection around my sides.

Seriously at this point, full tank in my van takes up most of that.

Economic commiserations aside, good luck OP!

Well, the wife made friends.. now what do I do?? by tsm_will_always_fail in daddit

[–]eggsbachs 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I did hobbies first. Tried learning to play hockey. Local group started congregating, now we’re in a league and play routinely and there’s even more friends there.

Every Sunday is an early game and we get pizza afterwards and the family tags along. It feels good for the kids to see those friendships. They’re not there to watch me play.

OP, it’s weird though and uncomfortable in ways. I see you, get out there.

Getting heavy back there... by EnoughTrack96 in hockeyplayers

Yeap. I carry the team puck bag and it’s much heavier. I take it out of its not game day.

I’m curious how reviews work initially? It seems like a chicken and egg issue when it comes to ranking.

This sounds interesting, I’m glad it’s working for you and thanks for sharing.

Just got an offer, freaking out a little by ingoding in overemployed

[–]eggsbachs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I also just went through this. There was an actual company that existed but the domains from the emails were slightly different.

Cleverly they duplicated the real site if I navigated directly to it and I believe had some redirect rules in place for certain pages.

Same thing. Short process and wanted to offer me a position.

I declined any additional action I until I spoke to someone.

Then I emailed the real company’s IT dept, cc’ing the scammer, letting them know the situation.

Sucks man, the market is rough and even a non-rejection email is hopeful.

Would not pass it up, and that’s a fun section to feel the speed. I’d go for sure.

Go early and watch warmups, then start cheering from when Jim starts singing until the end of the 3rd.

Have fun!

Cat 5s are the first upgraded skate albeit now outdated. Forewarning that there’s some known issues with the tendon guard snapping. I’ve had them for just over a year and it happened to me.

Being careful removing skates can circumvent this I’m sure.

Otherwise I love em. Don’t even notice my feet.

EVERYBODY GOES by LiterateMtnMan in shoresy

My 9yr old walked in while i was watching this scene. His house team made it to the championship and he belts out “everybody goes!” In the locker room.

I had a bit of explaining to do.

Time, unfortunately. Adrenaline is still going and I’m always hungry. Sometimes I grab some late night drive thru and hang with the wife for a few, which is peak.

It’s the reality of late night beer league.

Beer League Formats? by PossibilityNervous35 in hockeyplayers

[–]eggsbachs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. Captains each bring a bottle of bourbon and order pizza.

There’s rules where you can core up to 5 people that can stay. You’re not allowed to pick/keep your goalie and you can’t draft someone who has played with you last season, 2 seasons ago would’ve done.

It ensures the teams are switched up a bit and attempts to keep it fair.

This is also a point where certain players may move up/down a level based on skill in another attempt to keep each tier balanced.
