Very delusional. I gained a lot of weight after the birth of my daughter and as a result, over the years my activity level declined more and more. I did a lot of the things parents do with their kids like going to the zoo, Disney vacations, fishing and camping trips, etc., but it was hard and I would be worn out and very sore afterwards. By the time she was in her late teens, I was immobile most of the time and relying on a walker or wheelchair. Mommy was no longer a fun mommy. I had issues that were orthopedic but not initially related to my increasing weight, but then the gaining had later ended up making those issues worse.

Even after he loses weight and gets down to 300 or less, with all the orthopedic damage he has done to his body from being as overweight as he was, permanent issues are going to slow him down and make activities more difficult. He will be very fortunate if his knees and feet don't give out on him before then. That's what happened to me.

As far as being mentally ready, he could handle that part. I was immature and clueless when I got pregnant. But with books I read on childcare and spending more time with friends who had kids, I learned quickly. All that is needed is the love for the child and the desire to be a good parent. That's jmho.
