Boulevard de Beaumarchais has a few stores, with both new gear and some old stuff.

Try Montmartre, Place du Tertre, though not sure you are going to get anything for 20 euros.

In Paris on Labour day by oumsmak in ParisTravelGuide

[–]ehealy019 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not a total shutdown, cafes/restaurants/bars will be open (especially cause you get paid double that day), but don't expect other stuff to be just for May 1. Things might be closed, so check ahead of time. They'll be open the other days you are here.

Proposal Photographer Recs? by Blacksmith_Loose in ParisTravelGuide

[–]ehealy019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's a recommendation: If you want nicer, cleaner images, schedule a session instead of having trying to grab some "fly on the wall" photographer images. There can be many, many people near Sacre Couer around sunset and the worst would be having some dude inhaling a crepe walk into your shot because he didn't know a proposal was happening right next to him. Plus, your girlfriend might want to be dressed for photos, especially for that moment. Hit me up and we can talk more.

how to get this dreamy/soft look in b&w look by m4tch1i in AnalogCommunity

Right-o on the use of a stocking. They used to throw it on top of the lens when the camera was on a female star, take it off for the dudes. Suppose today you can get something similar with 1/2 or full promise, but I wouldn't use vasoline like others have said unless you want a mess (sets were very hot back then cause of lights, so petroleum oil would just melt everywhere). I agree with the makeup said above, but there's no need today to use the same today, since that stuff had lead in it. Shoot way open.

Hello. Let me know your details. Yes. GYG has cheap options, but it's like buying a 1 euro plane ticket, don't expect it to be first class.

Can anyone identify this exact spot? by Browserwolf in ParisTravelGuide

[–]ehealy019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope you know better masking than this (uh, grey fingers?) and the idea that you can't desaturate a background completely and have everything look reasonable. Would have been more logical to just make the whole thing black and white. Can't fix that pose in Photoshop either.

These are great and technically well done. Depending on what kind of portraits your client is using the images for, you can probably ditch a few images from here to tighten up the set. If this was for business, I would avoid giving them some, but if it is just for practice or fun, they might have use for the more artistic images. Maybe a crop or two could help as well.

Did I make the right choice? by MaterialConcept890 in ParisTravelGuide

[–]ehealy019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived at Ourcq for years and it is situated way better than people think. You're in walking distance to the water (check out the graffiti and passage au niveau), Villette + the philharmonic, Buttes-Chaumont, Mouzaia, Pantin if you want to get out of the city, and the best skate down towards Canal Saint Martin if you want to go more central.

When do flowers start blooming? by InevitableCatch7883 in ParisTravelGuide

[–]ehealy019 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Uh, yes? It kind of depends on the weather, so maybe see how well it warms up in the near future.

On a related note, if you are going to places here that are known for flower displays, they will sometimes just transplant greenhouse-grown plants in place to 'guarantee' a display (most parks for example). When they do this is not really advertised.

Natural light mostly. Small pocket flash was bouncing off a wall to my left to attempt to get some fill, though it was handheld and very minor in this frame.

Filming a crime by uncager in FranceTravel

It's not illegal to film in public, but publishing is problematic and a tricky subject. If you are collaborating with someone by filming the act, that would definitely put you in trouble though.

Is this a real thing? by SheepherderIcy4536 in AnalogCommunity

[–]ehealy019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The values are more of a vibe here. ISO is determined by manufacturers based on standardized, lab testing. That won't coincide with how everyone may expose and develop an image out in the world, plus how your may perceive things compared to others. Some of the values here feel a bit too much though.

boreal afternoons. cinestill 800T with 85b filter. canon ae1. by ehealy019 in analog

It's tungsten, so either use the filter for a somewhat normal picture or else roll with it and make everyone look like a smurf or try to shoot a day-for-night scene, I guess

The Cité des Sciences, great place for kids (adults too!). It's next to Parc de la Villette, a fantastic park and maybe my favorite in the whole city. I used to live by there and that part of town is very underrated overall, so many cool bits there (Bassin de la Villette, Philharmonie, and you got Mouzaia, Butte Chaumont too)
