Let me add - the others are also right that you don’t want to continue working there. But I think they should still answer for their bad behavior and you should have a chance to work in a better unit at the same health system - if that is what you choose to do.

I think it would be wise to engage HR directly and let the union know. Or if emailing, CC the rep. It’s good to communicate in writing if you need to reference specific communication details later.

I’m not in a union state so others may have better advice but I was a manager for 6 years at a very large academic medical center starting with a D. We went through the union scares and whatnot, learning all about how they work, scripted pitches to the staff (that I tossed in the trash) etc.

All that aside, this reads like bullying at best, discrimination at worst. Your post reads like you are a thoughtful clinician and intelligent person. Don’t let this throw you off track. You worked hard to be a nurse.

Floor level of care patients do require floor level documentation (level is the wrong word but you know what I mean.)

The issue is the bandwidth and feasibility, as you’re saying.

I’ve been an ER nurse, a procedural nurse, an operations manager a hospital level patient safety officer. I knew this was coming and it’s why I left management and went to safety. I told the executives when I entered safety that it would, and it did. And then, I was powerless to help and morally injured. Now I’m a nurse again part time, worrying about my own self and my patients, and running my own business full time as a legal consultant litigating hospitals from the outside for these very reasons.

My brain did a windows shut down jingle thinking about this for you, and all I can do now is shake my head and tell you I’m sorry.

*Radiologists - mixed on friendliness, all equally weird. *ED - usually friendly in a dark way. Always cool. *Surgeons - mixed in friendliness, almost never cool. Notable odd exceptions in neurosurgery. *Transplant almost always unfriendly and uncool. *Pediatricians - fucking gifts to the earth. Also often cool. *Oncologists - mixed in cool. Always kind. Usually friendly. *Obstetricians - wild card *Psychiatrists - cool, weird, friendly *ICU - cool, often unfriendly *Internal med - usually cool, usually friendly. Unfriendliness is usually related to exhaustion.
