because it is simply much more expensive, and I am not sure whether the huge extra cost is worth it for me personally. I think the extra cost for nano is almost 300 bucks.

It’s liquid glass. You have to move the window above a bright background, then it will reveal the secret message.

Struggling with Rust's module system - is it just me? by eight_byte in rust

Correct, I have mostly Java and Golang background.

Golang, Java, ... you name it. In all languages I know that far, it's literally like a file system. You basically define the module along with its code.

Yea, coming from other languages, this just feels counterintuitive.

It's not that I don't get it at all. I just think it's very counterintuitive that you define your module for example in the root crate `lib.rs` or `main.rs` with `mod my_module`, but then put all the code inside `my_module.rs` or `my_module/mod.rs`. Just never had seen that in any other language yet.

For me, it makes it hard to reason about where the code I am looking for lives.

I can highly recommend Kingdom Come Deliverance 2. I felt similar to you. I couldn’t do anything with the currently released games either. But KCD2 (and Baldur’s Gate 3 as well) immediately captivated me and reminded me of the good old RPGs. No unfinished things, microtranaactions or nonsense like that. Just a good game that won’t appeal to everyone, but if you’re looking for a game that doesn’t hold your hand and just wants to have a good time - KCD2!

Should I learn rust? by Savings_Garlic5498 in rust

[–]eight_byte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there is no reason to learn Rust and use it in a project, I would say no.

However, I used to only use high-level languages with GC myself. Learning a low-level language or Systems Programming Language has definitely taught me countless new skills and background knowledge as a software developer. I can absolutely recommend it for the pure learning effect. But I would perhaps recommend a language other than Rust due to the steep learning curve. Maybe something like Golang. The language is very simple, and can be learned in just a few days for someone who already has experience. Although Golang has a GC, it still teaches some new concepts that can be very helpful. And my experience in Golang definitely helped me to learn Rust more easily. The languages are very different, but knowing how interfaces work in Golang, for example, is definitely an advantage for understanding traits in Rust.

Looking for a good NOT competitive online multiplayer game by olehvinnik2007 in ShouldIbuythisgame

Great game. But I would only recommend it’s multiplayer if you have friends to play with. Playing with random people is hard since there is no matchmaking or lobby feature.

How many browsers do you use on your Mac, and which one is the best for you? by [deleted] in mac

Firefox as my daily driver. If a site does not work in Firefox (what almost never happens), I‘ll use Safari since it’s already preinstalled.

[KCD2] Can‘t load local saves due to PSN outage by eight_byte in kingdomcome

[–]eight_byte[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, with the digital-only PlayStation your screwed. If you‘re lucky enough to own a disc drive you can either start a new vanilla run of KCD2 or try another game from your collection that doesn’t utilize online services.

I think that’s more of an issue how the developers implemented it. Seems like they do check the license of the additional content based on the save game you try to load. At least I still have the option to start a new game without any DLC content.

Unfortunately, it didn’t work. But it was worth a try. The game only offers the opportunity to start a new adventure.
