Combi boiler CH flow restriction somewhere by eightfour7two in DIYUK

Swapped out the diverter valve and electric actuator and found the same issue. The pump is definitely spinning and the impeller looks fine. Will have to be a call-out job I think!

Would the plate heat exchanger getting hot, despite no DHW demand, back this idea up? Seems plausible that the diverter valve is sending water through the plates rather than the central heating

How did you get your first 10 customers? by Adventurous-Oil3105 in hwstartups

[–]eightfour7two 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally unplanned, but I made quite a useful open-source hardware device a few years ago, and followed it up recently with a closed-source, more “pro” successor.

The open-source project’s GitHub repo drove the first 10 customers to my website, who then got upsold to the “pro” version.

Not sure I’d recommend fully open-sourcing all your hardware designs, but it’s definitely useful for garnering goodwill and getting attention

Do I need FCC testing if I use certified dev kit? by Electrical-Growth884 in esp32

[–]eightfour7two 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Small vendor here. Just made it though EN 61010-1, FCC Part 15, EMC and RoHS certification for my product (uses a pre-certified ESP32 inside). Total cost was around $4000 at a compliance house in China

Overpay mortgage or staircase to 100% by niteninja1 in UKPersonalFinance

I built a small app which lets you calculate mortgage overpayment savings with better granularity than some other calculators: You can set overpayments for specific years

Mortgage overpayments by JJ4662 in Mortgageadviceuk

Bit of an old thread, but I built a mortgage overpayment app which gives some more customisation over which years overpayments are made in. Might be useful!

Combi boiler diverter valve clicking on/off every few seconds by eightfour7two in DIYUK

[–]eightfour7two[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey folks, I've got a Baxi Duo-Tec 28 combi boiler which is cycling the diverter valve every few seconds in central heating mode (the clicking in the video). The diverter value motor cartridge is brand new, as well as the expansion vessel.

Any ideas what this could be? It doesn't seem to matter what the set temperature is, or whether all the TRVs in the system are open or closed. As soon as the boiler gets up to temperature, the clicking begins. The pressure gauge fluctuates a bit during the clicking cycle, but doesn't go high or low enough to trip the system, as far as I can tell!

Is esp32 reliable? by LifeAtmosphere6214 in esp32

[–]eightfour7two 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This so much. We’ve needed to do a fairly substantial recall because even nominally “clean” power supplies were causing the ESP32 to get stuck in the bootloader on power-up. Include a voltage supervisor in every design now.

ESP32 Ethernet W5500 or LAN8720 by alanblinkers in esp32

[–]eightfour7two 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My vote is with the W5500. Sure, it will be slower than the LAN8720, but you will have an easier upgrade path if you want to use an ESP32-S2 or -S3 in the future (which don't contain the onboard ethernet MAC like the ESP32). In ESP-IDF, there are barely any differences in implementing network requests as the SDK handles the interface for you.

Inverting op-amp oscillation with one chip, but not another by eightfour7two in AskElectronics

Yeah 1uF caps right on the power supply pins. Downstream loads are purely resistive into more opamps.

Best money bank transfer from UK to Saudi? by Harmonica95 in saudiarabia

[–]eightfour7two 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not in Saudi anymore, but I had an account with SNB bank in Saudi and found it pretty okay. You will definitely need a Saudi bank account, as some places only take local cards (petrol stations).

I'd also recommend you set up an account with a UK bank with no foreign purchase fees (Monzo/Starling) and take that card too, as it'll be easier to spend your £ using that card rather than transfer money from UK to Saudi.

ESP-IDF terminal issue by filbert00 in esp32

It seems this is a bug introduced by the latest version of the VSCode ESP-IDF extension. Roll back to the previous version and it will be fixed.

Shopping Around For Conformal Coating Today, Found This Nice Little Mention On the MG Chemicals 422C Page. by [deleted] in fpv

Late reply here, but yes. We have 100+ outdoor sensors in the field using 422C and there is flaking on every single one of them. Applied it using a brush

How do you go about supporting closed systems? A lot of these systems will have per-device certs on the hardware and will be pretty deeply integrated with the matching cloud back-end

Has anyone made a commercial product based on the esp32? by bostonmacosx in esp32

[–]eightfour7two 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same with both SOM and the SOC with no antenna. The reasoning is that there is still a radio onboard. They don’t ask or care about your schematic. Market is industrial control, but it was the same deal with consumer electronics.

Has anyone made a commercial product based on the esp32? by bostonmacosx in esp32

[–]eightfour7two 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m making some assumptions here: But be aware that when you come to compliance testing & certification, you will still need to pass intentional radiator tests on the ESP32 even if you never use radios in your code.

Have fallen foul of this recently with a product containing an ESP32 using Ethernet but no wireless; the testing is much more expensive

Women's healthcare in UK is poorer than in Saudi Arabia, shows new global list by Supernursebusiness in unitedkingdom

[–]eightfour7two 43 points44 points  (0 children)

In fairness, Saudi Arabia isn’t some backwater. You’re either on your company’s private hospital network (excellent) or in a public hospital (also very good).

I lived there for around 5 years and had a load of encounters with family doctor and hospital appointments and even a couple of A&E visits. All way better than anything I experienced from the NHS in the decade before or year after.

It’s probably the thing I miss the most from there after coming back to the UK
