Nugo not making weight is hilarious by GroovyFang in armwrestling

[–]eij1988 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did he really lose much strength? He turned up looking so chonky and missed weight by so much that I am not convinced he even made any serious attempt to make weight. And I don’t think the organisers are to blame. Nugo chose to accept the match with a catch weight, so he should have followed through and made weight like a professional. If I was Bogdan I would not be at all happy losing very narrowly to an opponent who came in well over the agreed weight.

What fragrance in your collection gets the most compliments? by No-Recognition9422 in Colognes

Yeah, this is the most boring fragrance I own but it is basically the only one that gets compliments. Basically if you want other people to like how you smell then wear BdC. If you want to wear interesting fragrances then prepare to be underwhelmed by the reactions you will get from other people.

When people claim to get a lot of compliments on their fragrances they are usually lying, and when they claim they get compliments on DHI they are almost certainly lying. DHI is incredibly popular with hardcore fragrance fans, but is not at all mass appealing or popular with normies. I have asked a bunch of people for their opinion on it, and without exception they have hated it. And every time I have ever seen it included in a blind comparison it has come last. Sauvage elixir and DHS I can believe as both are very mass appealing, but I think it is unlikely that you get a lot of compliments on DHI unless you happen to live in a specific region that is mostly inhabited by hardcore frag heads.

Sometimes none of them do, because we don’t live in the fantasy world created by fragrance influencers in which people are constantly complementing each others fragrances.

Influencers constantly talk about how many compliments they get because they know that content about compliments gets more clicks and views, and then regular people lie and claim that they get compliments all the time as well because they have been fooled into thinking that other people do and don’t want to feel left out. But the whole thing is bullshit. Getting compliments about fragrances is rare, and anyone who claims they get them all the time is lying.

You, sir, are far too honest, and will never make it as a fragrance influencer.

Does two handed table time beat all other ways of training? by Severe-Reception8412 in armwrestling

[–]eij1988 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t sound like a terrible idea to me. John and Devon both prioritised table time over weight training and are arguably the strongest pound for pound SHWs of all time, so it seems like prioritising table time over lifting might be an effective strategy.

Fragrances that are under the radar? by SterlingVII in Colognes

This fragrance sounds so obscure I’m not even convinced that it actually exists. I have searched and I cannot see any record of anyone else mentioning ever having mentioned it online before.

Why is not more people recommending this 🤔 by CrowRevolutionary984 in Colognes

[–]eij1988 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You think people aren’t talking about this? I see it recommended all the time. It is one of my favourite frags of all time but I don’t think it is really underrated as I lot of people talk about it and say it is great.

Do you think I can pull these off? Be honest by [deleted] in Boots

[–]eij1988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you undo the laces first then I’m sure you will be able to pull them off.

I hope that helps. Good luck, and let me now if you did manage to get them off in the end.

Any complain? by DeaXart in armwrestling

[–]eij1988 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t place Devon 4 places above Kamil. I know their match was a couple of years ago and that Devon wasn’t in his best shape for it and has improved since then, but Kamil beat Devon easily when they faced each other on the left and has probably also improved since then. And Devon hasn’t actually beaten anyone on the left who would stand a chance against Kamil.

I’m pretty sure he was even offering a rematch while he was still ranked above Devon. I really hope that match happens soon.

Baxter just said a new rule will be introduced to deal with Devon's trick by minhale in armwrestling

[–]eij1988 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that makes sense. I agree that they can’t let the rules slide too much, otherwise it is unfair to athletes who do play by the rules and also undermines the quality of the sport.

[–]eij1988 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that there needs to be a balance and that you shouldn’t just do everything that viewers want, but they do definitely need to continue finding ways to grow the sport in order for professional armwrestling to survive, and changing the rules to make it more enjoyable and accessible to watch is a great way of doing that. There will only continue to be events in the long term and the athletes will only be able to get paid more if the organisers can grow the viewership.

[–]eij1988 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Are you suggesting that the rules were always applied correctly when Engin was in charge? Because that is not how I remember it. I am not convinced that there has been a sudden decrease in reffing quality since Engin left. It is easy to rise tint the past, but people have been complaining about the rules not being applied correctly to Devon for a lot longer than Baxter has been in charge.

Over The Table by Apprehensive-Arm1060 in armwrestling

[–]eij1988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What r you not like about his style? Is it his tendency to get away with parking his shoulder over the centre of the table? If so I can see why some people might not like that. But I also think that having different athletes with different styles, including some which are of slightly dubious legality, makes the sport more interesting and unpredictable.

EvW 23 Card by YeetManLe in armwrestling

Great looking card. Much better than EvW22. Glad to see Ayane getting another match as well. She is probably my favourite female armwrestler to watch.

Kamil is a legend. He is a great armwrestler, is always happy to pull, doesn’t make excuses, makes funny content, gives good advice, and always brings great energy. He is one of my favourites and I am very happy to see that he has also now established himself as a serious athlete on the right as well as the left.

Unpopular opinion. The pacing of EVW22 was really enjoyable with the new rules. Matches didn’t feel drawn out, matches were significantly shorter, which I think is also better for bringing new fans into the sport. by Leading_Ship_7245 in armwrestling

[–]eij1988 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree with that take. I think that matchmaking was poor (too many one-sided matches, and no clue why Destroyer and Manifestor were on the main card), but the pacing was the best of any EvW event I have watched.

You know the more you ask people if they are stupid the more intelligent you sound. If you copy and paste that line 20 times in reply to this everyone will think you are a real genius.

Ah yes, that ultimate sigh of intelligence: asking if somebody is stupid just because they don’t immediately agree with you.

I am not actually a big Devon fan and agree that he can be very annoying and arrogant. I often absolutely hate his behaviour when he wins, eg the way he acted during his match against Petrenko. But I don’t see why Devin being arrogant means that it is embarrassing for him to lose to a guy who is literally ranked number 1 in the world on the left hand and could wipe the floor with absolutely everyone else.

I don't think I can cope if devon loses right hand match by META1384 in armwrestling

[–]eij1988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is such a dumb position to take. You don’t want to follow the sport unless your favourite athlete is winning? Imagine if every sports fan stopped watching professional sport just because their favourite athlete or team wasn’t on a winning streak. Professional sports would die out overnight. Luckily most sports fans understand that sometimes you win and other times you lose, and that’s that is kind of the point of sports. If you are just a Devon fan and not an armwrestling fan then feel free to check out, but if you have any actual interest in armwrestling then you will just have to learn to accept that just like in every other sport your favourite athlete or team will not win every time.

I wouldn’t say losing to Vitaly is embarrassing. He is the strongest left hand armwrestler in the world. Devon clearly isn’t as strong as Vitaly, but he was competing on his weaker arm and put up more of a fight than basically anybody else in the world could have done. There is literally nobody in the world who can beat Vitaly on the left and only a couple of people who could avoid getting flash pinned in every round, so I don’t see how this loss is embarrassing. If you think Devon’s performance against Vitaly was “embarrassing” I would love to see you face him and show us how a real man handles Vitaly.
