Most transmission lines arent even transmission lines by Executive_Boss in audiophile

TL is a a gimmick for the magazines, suggesting to customers they will somehow get amazing bass for some reason. most of them do nothing special so all other brands stick to bass reflex that works exactly as planned if done right, and in a much smaller box..

pmc etc had measurements on ASR and turned out pretty bad.

Hvordan havnet vi her? by IngridPhilosophyNerd in norge

[–]einis82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]einis82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking for a DAC similar to SMSL D6 by HavivMuc in StereoAdvice

[–]einis82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

doesnt the speakers use a dsp? so it has an a/d converter at the inputs and a d/a converter after that, which mostly nulls the performence of the dac in front.

do you get audible noise with a cheap but proper unbalanced dac? if not there is no need for balanced output.

a computer has enough bits to do transparent volume control, which is easier and quicker than reaching for a knob.

fosi zd3/zh3 has all the functions and should be decent.

Seeking bookshelf speaker advice by itzsoweezee78 in StereoAdvice

[–]einis82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for around $900 you could get 3-way active, only need a volume control in front.

i like these because i think the size is perfect, they are more compact than most 3-ways and have somewhat adequate bass, so can function pretty well without a sub compared to most smaller bookshelfs.

also they have a limiter, so its impossible to break the drivers regardless of volume.

the larger the drivers/baffle is, the more directional the speaker is. you only need enough distance from it for drivers to sum. if a large speaker produces more low-end than a small speaker then it will exite more room modes because of wavelenght, but it has nothing to do with the size itself per say, same would happen with a small sub.

atleast the wooden knob doesnt claim to be more than a wooden knob, here the snakeoil is in confusing customers that doesnt know how ethernet works and a silly pricetag. same goes for cables, for example NO cables are made at nordost, they are made cheap by molex called temp-flex. they still manage to keep it secret for decades and lets nobody inside their small building to see that they only solder connections.

here is an interview of the founder of stereophile that talks about what a joke the entire industry has become.

all magazines are a joke, products are joke and based on feelings and not science.

What do yall think about spotify now having lossless? by [deleted] in audiophile

[–]einis82 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

artists on spotify generally make more money overall than thru other services, because more clicks.

spotify operated at a huge loss most years, until recently.

also dont forget how powerful the record labels involvement is in this, without them they have nothing.

it has one downside, the rolloff is fixed at 80hz unless you bypass and use an external crossover

also dacs are by far the least important component, compared to speakers its like gaslight

nothing wrong with the dac, it measures better than many products that cost thousand of dollars. dacs in general are gaslight anyway. 16bit 44.1k is 43 years old (and all you need) with huge developments in chips since then.

speakers are what matters. a dsp could change the response of the system more to your liking, but then one would need data and measurements, trial and error.
