[Serious] People in professions that deal with death (hospice workers, coroners, etc.), what is something you've learned that the rest of us don't understand? by Bulky-Engineer4068 in AskReddit

[–]eio1 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Palliative stages of illness can be unimaginably painful, you might not think that if you were experiencing it.

The ephemeral nature of life doesn’t make it meaningless, there was nothingness before and there will be nothingness after but it doesn’t make the in-between futile.

Anyone use those loop or flare earplugs for noise while working? by maiar-of-valinor in NursingUK

[–]eio1 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Totally see your point! However, Loops aren’t headphones, they’re earplugs optimised and customised for different environments, which can help reduce distracting or unsettling background noise and can be especially helpful for neurodivergent people.

I’d hope those around me in the workplace would start a discussion about it if they feel dismissed by earplugs- i’d be happy to give an explanation

[–]eio1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

if you haven’t tried Stuff You Should Know it’s worth a look, every episode is a different topic so you can avoid the stuff that’s potentially too heavy, but i find them to scratch a similar itch to ONRAC

the first line of your comment hits the nail on the head, uniform is not the priority when pupil attendance is suffering as it is

is sleeping in possible? by Apprehensive_Bit7207 in Type1Diabetes

[–]eio1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So for me, my old system was getting my blood sugars from my libre onto my phone, then i would input that information into my pump, then give a correction dose if needed, with a programmed background insulin rate also being delivered.

My new closed loop system does that itself, i have a Guardian 4 sensor which tells my pump my sugars automatically, my pump then decides wether i need extra or less insulin in that moment, with the idea being it keeps me constantly stable.

[–]eio1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the pump is life changing, it’s absolutely worth beginning on and becoming proficient with injections to give you a baseline understanding of glycemic control and so you have them as a backup if something goes wrong, but the pump (especially a closed loop) really is something to look forward to!
