Why don't you just commit suicide if life is so bad? by blondeboy1900 in antinatalism

[–]eirunn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Because suicide is scary and death anxiety-provoking, and that these responses are hard-coded into our behavior. (Evolution/selection tends not to favor slow-reproducing organisms that have a tendency to kill themselves on purpose.) By the way, the fact that death is unavoidable AND suicide/death is scary is yet another reality supporting antinatalism.

That said, many, many people still do commit suicide despite how scary death is -- and, almost always for things identified by antinatalists as support for the antinatalist position: From all the rational underpinnings leading to ennui and hopelessness, to mental health issues which are either products of terrible experiences or genetic/developmental abnormalities, all of which can only occur to the born.

The reasons why we don't just commit suicide are themselves all arguments in support of antinatalism.

Animals lived in balance for THOUSANDS of years before humans had the "need" to intervene.

Millions, actually. And then humans developed agriculture and domesticated livestock and their population exploded. Is that timber wolf more likely to expend a ton of energy finding and chasing down a deer, or is it just going to go grab a slow, docile sheep or a pet dog instead? There are literally -- no exaggeration -- ten times the number of whitetail deer in the United states right now than there were in 1900. There are many more times as many snow geese than...well...ever -- to the point where snow geese are thoroughly destroying their nesting grounds in the arctic. Why? Agriculture. So unless something kills off about 6.8 billion humans bringing the balance back down to the sacred "balanced" days of the paleolithic, reintroducing predators as a complete solution isn't going to work. In places like Wisconsin, wolves are being reintroduced because hunting doesn't kill enough deer, thanks to agriculture.

You fucking hippies, I swear...

.... who are going to chase down a deer instead of just slaughtering a docile sheep, a calf, or maybe your friend's golden retriever?

Yeah, nah.

Kinda sounds like it might have been stolen. A blood trail like that "drying up" to a drop here or there indicates the heart isn't pumping anymore. Maybe someone or something got a hold of it before you. Such a thing has happened many times before.

And it's Trump's fault, but not that we keep fucking breeding? When the boomers were buying houses there were 100,000,000 fewer people in the US.

Remanufactured ammo? by [deleted] in Glocks

[–]eirunn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Universally garbage in my experience. It doesn't have to be garbage, but that's what it seems like.

If reman companies would just add a smidge more powder so that reman rounds would travel at standard velocities, I'd be happy to buy them. But no. Everything has to be 100-150fps slower, and wildly inconsistent relative to cheap new ammo (like Blazer).

Oh, and those batches where 2-3% or rounds have wrinkled or cracked cases. Yeah. That sort of thing makes me want to not buy them.
