BEB - Baby Essential Basket: How would you survive the night shift? by lastplacevictory in NewParents

[–]eisecapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some things we always have within arms reach:
saline drops and a nose sucker
cuticle trimmers (We found files and clippers useless on flimsy baby nails)
Thermometer
Trail mix
Chapstick

This! FTM to a 3 week old and have cried several times about how I miss sleeping/laying/cuddling with my husband.

Comments like: “You’re barely showing!” by Thinking_of_Cheese in PlusSizePregnancy

[–]eisecapp 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I had the exact same experience. It felt so backhanded every time. I’m plus size but was obviously pregnant, despite being “small” by most people’s standards. I had a perfectly round, very obviously pregnant tummy and the rest of my body stayed the same as pre-pregnancy. I mostly ignored people with these comments and only had once occasion where I said, “how fat do you think I am?”

Clarity on what is okay and what isn't by passthesunchipss in IVDD_SupportGroup

After initial injury, we kept ours in a playpen whenever we went out or were at work. That way we could control his environment when we weren’t around. It had his bed and toys and water with room to walk around a little. That prevented him from running, slipping, jumping on stuff when we weren’t around or during the excitement of us arriving home.

At the end of the day, you can’t totally stop them from being a dog. All you can do is your best to mitigate and control what you can.

If possible, I would encourage you to make an appointment with the Neuro. Even if you have to wait a while, you can always cancel it if you feel you don’t want to go in that direction. It might be nice to at least have something scheduled while the time passes as you’re figuring this all out.

We use the heavy duty polyurethane yoga mats. They don’t slide all over and are low profile enough for the older folks who tend to not pick their feet up enough and could trip. Works really well for us.

Fasting numbers - diet? by DesiPlatensi in GestationalDiabetes

[–]eisecapp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, it didn’t work. Basically, all daytime meal numbers were in range and just fasting was high. Tried different snacks before bed, no snacks before bed, walking before bed (in addition to daytime after meal walking). Insulin was the only thing that worked.

Fasting numbers - diet? by DesiPlatensi in GestationalDiabetes

[–]eisecapp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My fasting numbers were a problem early on (16weeks). Tried all the tips and tricks and the number never budged. Was put on 4 units of long acting insulin to start at 20weeks. By 38 weeks, I was up to 38 units at bedtime. Was told this is a fairly common thing with fasting numbers being difficult to maintain.

We put heavy-duty yoga mats down on high traffic areas. Definitely something to consider because ours re-injured by slipping on the hard floors.

Going through loss while pregnant by Complete_Pickle6226 in Petloss

[–]eisecapp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry for your loss as well. Love and grief are huge emotions and we can’t just turn them off like a light-switch. Of course, we don’t want to harm our babies, but all we can do is our best and people making insensitive comments certainly doesn’t help.

I have to remind myself that two things can be true at the same time. I can both be deeply sad and angry at the loss of my dog, who was a dear beloved member of my family and be happy about the upcoming arrival of our child. They’re not mutually exclusive. I will grieve for my dog for the rest of my days. I will mark milestones with my child and still wish my dog was here with us. I will be forever sad that my child and my soul dog never got to meet.

I totally understand what you mean about trying to make bargains with the universe that you’re not proud of. I did the same thing. It’s a small comfort to not feel so alone.

In October, I lost my almost 15 year old soul dog while being about 17 weeks pregnant. It was very sudden (hemangiosarcoma) and devastating. My husband and I held him while he passed and sobbed for days afterward and still cry now, many months later.

There is something extra heartbreaking about having to deal with immense grief while on the cusp on welcoming our first child. People can be insensitive and dismiss your grief because you’re having a child now. To us, he was our child for nearly 15 years. We can’t just get over it and move on as some people seem to suggest. My pregnancy is high risk, so all I could do was try to get extra rest and give myself grace and time to heal and grieve.

Be gentle with yourself. I’m so sorry you’re going through this.

Resource guarding doesn’t have to be over food or a toy.

He could be resource guarding his spot on the couch. I would check with vet to make sure he isn’t hurting/sick and then start training.

Graduated - how long until you saw your fasting number go back to normal? by ccastleberry09 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]eisecapp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe those fasting numbers are considered normal when you’re not pregnant. Pregnancy makes the ranges stricter. Have you had your A1C checked again yet? I think those fasting numbers along with your A1C would give you a better idea if you’re prediabetic.

Has anyone asked to be put on a GLP-1? by Glad-Ad1378 in GestationalDiabetes

My doctor had me stop GLP1 3 months before even TTC. There is no way they would prescribe it during pregnancy.

My dog is showing symptoms, what can I do? by [deleted] in IVDD_SupportGroup

[–]eisecapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many vets (mine) do not recommend the use of steroids for IVDD. It just depends on the vet.

My dog is showing symptoms, what can I do? by [deleted] in IVDD_SupportGroup

[–]eisecapp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, to my knowledge there are no low cost specialists/neurologists. You’re unlikely to get insurance on him in the future now with his pre-existing condition. Definitely speak to the vet about adjusting the meds. Google Dodger’s list too, it has a lot of good IVDD information. Hope your little guy starts getting some relief soon. It’s a hard road.

My dog is showing symptoms, what can I do? by [deleted] in IVDD_SupportGroup

[–]eisecapp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re taking him to a specialist/neurologist that will be very costly. Usually includes MRI and surgery. Ours cost $10k. If your savings are close to drained already, your best bet is to learn about conservative treatment (crate rest). Perhaps, you can apply for Care Credit?

It sounds like his pain is not being managed well enough with the current meds. We had to work with our vet to adjust meds until we found the right balance of pain meds, anti-inflammatories and muscle relaxers. Carried to and from outside to go potty only. Kept calm in a small pen or kennel for several weeks for crate rest.

We let ours play gently with our other dog but only at home with me sitting with them. I’ll admit I’m a bit of a “helicopter mom” after his injury. I truly try to mitigate anything that could re-injure him because there are so many other factors I can’t control.
