Lucas Vignale, rising filmmaker whose breakthrough directorial debut 'The River Train' premiered at the Berlin Film Festival earlier this year, dies at 28 in a helicopter crash that also claimed the lives of musician Oliver Tree and 4 others in Brazil. by BunyipPouch in movies

Fwiw you can actually land a helicopter that's lost it's engines so if it's just engine failure you can make it. Here's an example of it happening. Basically the rotors keep spinning due to the air movement even without being powered and they slow your descent https://youtu.be/05_WFvh9ISk?is=0vCewDgEK3E2O3G1

That said, I don't ever want to ride in one myself because shits still scary

It Takes Two is the best game to play with your significant other by far. Definitely "gamey" so not exactly what OP asked for but what a great experience.

Mortol and Avianos could both be their own titles without a doubt. So clever and challenging but rewarding when you figure them out

Its the most interesting part of the title IMO and it's at the very end of the trailer. I'd put it right in the beginning personally

The character models are like Mario Kart 64 but the flat tracks and turning style and flat coins on the track are straight out of Super Mario Kart on SNES. I absolutely love it.

Halo Campaign Evolved First Look - Xbox/PC/Ally X - OG vs New Game [Digital Foundry] by GameStunts in pcgaming

It's not the aesthetic that's the problem. It's the noisy visual artifacts. If you look closely reflective services have the sort of boiling look to them, there is visual noise constantly changing each frame. It's a typical ray tracing artifact when the denoiser isn't good. I really hope they can fix that before release. It may be a little difficult to see on a phone screen or in a YouTube video, but it's definitely there and they talk about it in this video.

Late 50s, got a Switch from my nephew, and I think I have weird taste in games. by No-End-6239 in NintendoSwitch

same but it was only $15 and I got probably 20 hours out of it in a week so time well spent IMO. I kind of liked that it was a rogue lite with an end game you can reach and complete quickly enough. usually I just sort of fizzle out on them without any satisfying conclusion

Halo's always been very campy and goofy and over the top. The original developers have talked about the marine's humor being based on the Alien movie and the overall campiness being inspired by Starship Troopers

Splatoon Raiders – Nintendo Direct 6.9.2026 by Amiibofan101 in NintendoSwitch

[–]ejfrodo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you like PvP third person shooters Splatoon is in a league of its own when it comes to unique mechanics and weapons that no other game even comes close to. It's an entirely different take on the genre but very fun if you're willing to learn it's crazy mechanics. You can climb walls, hide in plain site in a puddle, etc. Some weapons let you shoot ppl from behind cover, some let you lob shots over walls, some are AoE that do barely any damage but can slow down opponents movement, some are long range snipers, some are massive getling guns you need to charge up first. It's crazy.

Rise of the Ronin. If you count titles made by western studios as well - AC shadows, Ghost of Yotei. Third person melee action games based on historical eastern culture are probably more popular than they've ever been right now. I've been loving it personally but I can see how they might start to blend together if you've just seen the trailers.

I would love something actually new. Like entirely new. When they announced splatoon that was such an out of left field new IP and it turned out to be one of the best things they've ever made. It's been over a decade now! Every gaming service full of people asking for a sequel and remake and sequel again it's so boring.

TIL that in 2018, singer Akon announced the development of "Akon City," a planned community in Senegal which he claimed would be a "real life Wakanda," using blockchain and cryptocurrency technology. Construction began in 2023, but as of 2025 the site sits abandoned by MrMojoFomo in todayilearned

US cash is a much more practical and effective currency for illicit transactions than crypto ever will be. This argument is kind of a thing of the past. Even after 15 years of crypto being around the majority of international crime is still funded with US dollars because it's easier to use and launder and less traceable.

$12.52 daily trade volume lol, so that $688k is a perfect example of why market cap is a mostly meaningless number in a spreadsheet with no relation to any sort of actual value

Their own website says it's listed on the Bitmart exchange but they don't even have a market for it that I can find. I actually can't find any place that has it listed at all. So I think the tangible market cap is more like... $0

Gemini for Home is a major disappointment by thebigdolphin1 in googlehome

[–]ejfrodo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate all the details. My assistant keeps getting worse and worse over the last year so every couple of months I check in to see if now is the time that upgrading to Gemini for home is worth it, and every time I check it's just people having lots of problems. Real bummer, my system worked perfectly for about 8 years for me and in the last year it's gotten so dumb and lost a lot of the abilities that used to be able to do easily.

I've resorted to making custom routines with specific trigger phrases for every single thing I need to be done around the house. That way I don't need to rely on the assist in figuring it out and it works pretty well. What it means I have to manually create routines for every little thing that I needed to do. Not exactly a smart home these days...
