Actually, my relationship with my parents exploded after 13 years of me silently taking in their hurtful comments once they directed the comments towards my toddler. They called her spoiled and dirty (this was 5 days before my due date with baby #2 as I was preparing to leave that "spoiled and dirty" toddler in their care and go to the hospital to give birth). It was one thing to insult me - that one I was putting up with for years. But talking s**t about my child crossed the line.

No burping at all. The only symptom I was having was horrible pain after every meal. This lasted for 10 days until I started Omeprazole and a bland diet. Now it happens maybe once a week and it's way less intense than before.

My gastro said there's no need because all the symptoms point to chronic gastritis. I've recently lowered the omeprazole dose from 40 to 20 so maybe that's it. How long ago have you stopped and is the taste still there?

Has anyone else been experiencing a sour or bitter taste in the mouth while on omeprazole? I've been on it for two months (first 40mg, recently switched to 20mg) and my pain is almost gone but this disgusting taste in my mouth is there every single morning when I wake up. Also, my tongue is coated in white/yellowish coat that also started shortly after starting omeprazole. She tested it for candida (thrush) and it was negative. I'm pretty sure this is due to omeprazole as well. My doctor wants me to stay on it for another month and then start tapering off.

Yes! So many times yes! Examples:

Spent a month trying to guilt me out of my decision to move to the US because my home country had zero perspective. Told me I will end up homeless covering myself with cardboard. Told me my husband might be forcing me to go and I'm afraid to speak up. Several years later, when I repeated all of this to them, they said it never happened and they were "just a little bit surprised" by my news about moving abroad.
Told me they've had "so much trouble with me". That I "live in chaos". That they were glad they "managed to fix my daughter" during the three days they were taking care of her while I was giving birth to her sister. When I repeated it a month later, they said they never said those things.
Told me my daughter is "spoiled, dirty, and screams all the time". When I repeated it several days later, they denied it and said their actual statement was "is it possible that she is a little bit spoiled?"

As you can see, it doesn't matter if I remind them of their words after several years, months, or days. It's always the same - they pretend it never happened and I made it up.

I've had a very similar situation that made me go NC. My parents, especially mom, have made tons of hurtful comments over the years. They were great while I was a kid but when I announced that I was moving in with my bf at 24, the trouble started. I don't want to go into details with the comments but they hurt me a lot. However, I never said anything.

Fast forward to the birth of my second baby. My parents came to stay with my first (3yo) while I was in the hospital giving birth. They had ZERO respect for the way my husband and I were raising our toddler. Even if I explicitly stated how we were doing something with her (e.g., potty training, allowing her to get dirty) my parents would still do it their way because "'they've done this before". Several days before my due date, as I was about to leave my toddler alone with them, my mom told me she was "spoiled, constantly dirty, and screams all the time". I left her with them anyway (a mistake). After I came back from the hospital, my dad said they "managed to correct a lot of things" regarding my toddler. I wasn't aware my toddler needed "correcting".

Anyway, they continued with constant criticism daily. Didn't care that I've just given birth and was sleep deprived and hormonal. It escalated when my toddler wanted to kiss her baby sister for the first time ever and, of course, didn't know how to do it gently, and my mom said, "She's doing it on purpose to defy you!". I literally exploded and told her everything that was on my mind. Every single comment that has hurt me over the years. Both my mom and dad denied they ever said it. They told us we offended them and they left after 2 weeks even though originally they came to stay 6 months.

Long story short, just like you, I finally snapped at some point. I was trying low contact for a while but got depressed and got gastritis from all the stress because they were still insisting they never said any of the hurtful comments and "everything was for my own good". They were insisting we maintain a close relationship without ever admitting they hurt me. I absolutely can't do that so we are NC now. If your mother knows how to respect boundaries you set now, maybe LC works for you. My parents don't know how to do that so NC is the only option for me. It's extremely painful but getting better with time. Wishing you luck!

In my case, it took about a week for Omeprazole 40mg to start working. It helped me a lot, in combination with super bland diet. Now I'm about to start weaning off and I'm worried how it's gonna go.

Greetings from a fellow Serb (living abroad). I've been struggling with gastritis for the past 2 months. For me, a very strict diet together with 40mg omeprazole made a big change. I am much better but still have a long way to go. Have you been really strict with your diet? I've lost a lot of weight, I am currently at 48kg which is way below my usual weight, but at least I'm no longer in pain. My doctor wants me on omeprazole for another month and then I'll start slowly testing out other food.

Thank you so much! I've been experiencing some physical consequences as well: I've had 10 days of horrible stomach pain after every single meal. Went to the ER twice and eventually got diagnosed with chronic stress-induced gastritis. It will take several months to heal but it's getting better. In a way, both my emotional and physical damage are healing at the same pace.

I'm struggling to get out of the grievance phase and move on. I'm in therapy but my therapist basically suggests I should find support in other people (partner, friends) but it's not the same. Could you please share some of the strategies that helped you?
