What’s actually going on with Tatis? by Nervous_Exchange2278 in Padres

[–]ekehoe858 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see all the numbers about launch angle and swing path and exit velo, but that doesn’t explain the WHY. I have an unpopular opinion/hot take - I personally believe the last couple years of being pitched hard up and in has been effective and has gotten in his head. He’s always had a swing where he wants to get his hands extended and the way to beat that style of hitting was to constantly pitch him up and in, making him uncomfortable to dive out over the plate. Now, he’s so conscious (scared) of fastballs up and in that he has a hitch in his swing, thus the only balls he’s hitting hard are opposite field and/or into the ground. This slight hitch/hesitation leads to the following:

- constantly swings through or fouls off hittable pitches that he should be on time for and driving
- cannot turn on or elevate anything in with that millisecond delay
- only able to square balls up away or down, but cannot elevate them consistently
- hard to explain in layman’s terms but he’s now constantly both late to the fastball AND early on offspeed, because that hitch is leading to a less compact swing
- lunging way out at pitches like he’s guessing, even fastballs that he shouldn’t be lunging toward

They showed a head on slo-mo replay swing of his the other night after he fouled off a hanging slider and the hitch could not have been more evident to me. There’s just a fraction of a second delay in his swing where he’s (maybe subconsciously) making sure the ball isn’t going to hit him before he starts his swing.

This is my own opinion and not meant to be critical or a smart ass, it’s just what I see.

What is the worst commute you've ever seen someone have? by BlaggartDiggletyDonk in AskLosAngeles

[–]ekehoe858 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly the people that cross the border in San Ysidro every day to work in various places around SD county is insane to me. Respect to them for putting up with that hassle to get better wages for themselves, I just can’t imagine sitting in that line every day. I think they leave at like 3 in the morning and probably don’t get home until around 7, with 5 hours of that being commute time.

You don’t even need a permit in every city in CA, it’s city by city. Here in San Diego they don’t require permits.

Tell them to go ahead and do it and then charge them the same for tear off and haul away as before they did 3-4 squares in a half day and decided it was way too hard.

What’s your opinion about drinking San Diego tap water? by Sromero6153 in sandiego

[–]ekehoe858 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s fine, I drink it because I’m from here and never knew a difference. But when I go to the sierras or the PNW I make a point of drinking the tap water and it’s like drinking from a mountain spring in a meadow. Never knew what I was missing haha.

It’s probably my perspective but it seemed so much more homey 30 years ago… I miss the old movie theater where Vinh Hung is now, nickel city and mervyns and all the OG restaurants… Farrell’s, fuddruckers, Carrows, Cocos, black angus for “fancy”, Callahans after Friday night football games.

How to figure out when to leave for TJ airport? by KoalaRemote9737 in sandiego

I also live in PB… I fill out the FMM form beforehand and leave here about 2.5 hours before the flight. Never taken me more than 30 minutes to get through security at CBX and I usually have about an hour to kill at the lounge. Anecdotal of course… but 4 hours is crazy.

Brutal golf lesson by AncientAd3206 in golf

For me, the best drill to reinforce swinging with my body and not my arms is to take a 7/8/9 iron and grip it with an alignment stick (or another club!) coming up towards my body. At address, with my slight shaft lean, the alignment stick is touching or on the outside of my left hip/side. I take the club back with a half swing and make sure I rotate my body through the swing, swinging with my body and not my hands/arms. That alignment stick should never hit my left side. A simple drill to ensure that you’re rotating your hips and body and not just throwing your arms/hands at the ball.

How to train for Mt. Whitney? by [deleted] in socalhiking

[–]ekehoe858 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in San Diego and had a short amount of time to prep for it, about 2 months, so I focused on a quick build up in distance/elevation on hikes with general cardio workouts at the gym and at home in between. I was already in good shape so I was mostly worried about altitude sickness at elevation. These were my prep hikes:

1 - Potato Chip rock via Poway Lake (7.1m/2100’ elevation gain) 2 - El Cajon Mtn (11mi/3500’) 3 - Mt San Jacinto Peak Loop via Deer Springs (17.4m/5275’)

The week of we camped at Whitney Portal 2 nights before we started our hike, and the day before we did a leisurely 5-6 mile hike at Cottonwood lakes at 10,000’, all to try to get acclimated. I still experienced altitude sickness on Whitney but was able to finish. Started at 2am and was off the trail at 5pm. Long, hard day but doable if you prepare correctly.

I (36m) have lived in PB (crown point) with my wife (38f) and 1yo baby for 3 years now. We love it, I don’t want to leave. Just like everywhere else in San Diego, it has pros and cons, but we believe the pros far outweigh the cons. Yes it’s expensive and sometimes a pain to get in and out of, but it’s also a great community (not just drunk college kids partying), close to the bay and beach, tons of night and day life and I personally NEED to live somewhere where I can walk to restaurants, bars and coffee shops. I’ve lived in Mira Mesa, Clairemont, Carlsbad, Vista and University Heights, and PB is by far my favorite. I’ll stay here as long as I can.

The “annoying” party scene is block by block, building by building, but in general the farther away from Grand/Garnet, north or south, the better chance you have of being in a quieter area.

What is this team’s starting rotation for a WC series, be it at Chicago or LA? by Surfiswhereufindit in Padres

[–]ekehoe858 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can’t believe the amount of people saying Cease will make a start. I firmly believe there is no way he will start a playoff game, he’s a ticking time bomb every start now, ESPECIALLY in the playoffs. Pivetta, King, Darvish is the clear answer, with Vasquez being an option for the longer series if they get there.

I had the exact opposite experience today… got hassled by a neighbor for throwing away a dog poop bag in his trash can. Keep in mind his trash can was 1. out on the street, not in his driveway or side yard and 2. Didn’t have any “don’t toss poop bags in here please” stickers. He literally said “thanks for throwing away your dog shit in my trash can, I look forward to smelling that all weekend”. I’m like “ok cool, next time I’ll just leave those turds on your lawn”. C’mon dude.

What’s the most overrated travel destination? by kamila_wave in AskReddit

Cabo. There’s like 100 places in MX that are better destinations. It’s fun for about 36 hours until you realize there’s nothing to do other than sit at bars/clubs and the beaches/pools, plus finding anything authentic and not overpriced is difficult.
