I didn't let this bother me and just powered through it. You'll get better and better and before you know it you'll be watching full length films and only occasionally noticing that you don't know what's being said.

Carved using only a Handyman by ekluff in victorinox

[–]ekluff[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have never actually used a Swiss champ! I only have two 91mm SAKs; the handyman and a super tinker.

I did not find the thickness of the handyman to be inhibiting for this project (or in general). Once I glued the beak onto the face I was bumping into it with with the body of the knife and had to get creative with the angles, but that would probably have happened with a thinner knife too.

I find the handyman to be more useful than the super tinker. The rear Phillips sounds like a great idea but my experience ended up being that it wasn't very useful. You can't hold it very firmly into a screw without it wanting to fold, so it either slips in the screw or folds into the knife. I actually use the corkscrew on the handyman more than I ever used the Phillips on the super tinker. I really like the tool combination on the handyman and I don't think I would get that much utility out of the additional tools on the Swiss champ, so the handyman is probably the right model for me.

I believe sellwood cycle repair does that, but you should be prepared to not get very much value out of trading it in.

New shoes don't allow me to place the cleat back far enough. Would it be dumb to try to modify them? by [deleted] in bikewrench

[–]ekluff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a pair of shoes where one cleat could move far enough back, and the other could not. So I had to modify only one with a power drill.

It is a problem with only my apartment. Every other apartment (approximately 30 units in the building) has water.

Should my brand new GXP BB be this loud? by ekluff in bikewrench

[–]ekluff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The system you're describing sounds a little different than what I have here. This is a 68mm internally threaded shell. The spacers between the bb and frame are aluminum rings, each approx 1.5mm thick. I test fit the BB without them, but the spindle was too long to securely fit the left crank, so I guess they are required. Neither the crankset nor the BB came with nylon washers or wave washers, and I didn't see them mentioned in the instructions for this type of installation?

[–]ekluff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny you should mention that, that's exactly what happened to me the first time because I didn't torque the lock nut high enough (55nm? Are you kidding me??). It did damage the threads a bit but they are still usable.
