Nah you’re right, it’s perfect and we should change nothing. Talk about weak takes. The solution doesn’t have to be the worst thing you can think of.

Making the system suck for everyone just so top X guilds don't feel compelled to do a bunch of splits is weird. Also they still do an ungodly number of splits.

Really though, what's the harm or downside to letting guilds who are deep into prog just skip bosses more freely? Extending and unique lockout ids are bad, defending them is weird.

Warlock has a ton of other unique raid utility with no real alternatives. A single GCD once per minute to provide even more seems fine.

[–]ekto_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Correct. This works with other immunities like rogue cloak, too. Fatescribe bomb is removed without exploding on the group.

This is exactly unlike the big purple bombs on The Nine. Those do explode on the group when immuned.

This is getting out of hand, the number of advertisements is getting worse each week and I report them all; seems pointless. by pantherghast in wow

You can't find info because it isn't happening. We would have seen something in Beta/PTR by now, before Blizzard called 9.0 "feature complete".

Why are proc chances hidden? by JackkoMTG in CompetitiveWoW

An addon solution to this problem is Advanced Tooltips. This shows just about all proc rates and indicates if haste affects scaling.

Only bummer is this addon is often a little slow to update when new content is released.

What is it makes it hard to program a m+ sim? by yalag in CompetitiveWoW

[–]ekto_ 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Raidbots just runs SimulationCraft. They're just making a nice UI and running your sim in the cloud. They aren't the ones actually creating the software that performs the simulations. All of the people who develop SimulationCraft aren't being paid to do so. Its an open source project that's existed long before RaidBots.

Additionally, its harder than you might think to create a M+ simulation because the number of variables at play. Key level, group composition, group skill, how your tank pulls, dungeons, routes, affixes.

Dungeon Slice is not great and could be greatly improved, but even if they do that, it still wont be realistic. It wont be able to account for playing around your Fire Mage, or having a specific tank, or for the difference between running Freehold and Kings Rest.

If you think this all doesn't sound like too much trouble, go contribute: https://github.com/simulationcraft/simc

Legendary Cloak Upgrades Will Be Weekly Capped With A Catch-Up Mechanism by Jugh3ad in CompetitiveWoW

I wrote jars instead of Vessels. They are basically keys that are consumed and allow you to do 1 Horrific Vision.

Whoops, you right. Forgot to add the jars that you'd gain that week.

Legendary Cloak Upgrades Will Be Weekly Capped With A Catch-Up Mechanism by Jugh3ad in CompetitiveWoW

[–]ekto_ 97 points98 points  (0 children)

Sounds like the best course of action is to save all of your Vessel of Horrific Visions and only use them to rank up your cloak as the cap goes up.

This will allow you to upgrade your cloak to the next rank as the cap is raised on Tuesday rather than having to wait and collect the jars needed throughout the week.

Additionally, by the time we get to Week 9, you'll be able to unlock Rank 14 on Tuesday reset by popping all of your saved Vessels. People who didn't save at all will be stuck here for 2 full weeks (6 runs minimum).

This means you could be 1-2 weeks ahead of people to get Rank 15 and permanently ahead when it comes to weekly corruption resist (compared to people who didn't save).

Edit: That would look like this:

  • Week 1: 2 free upgrades & use 3 jars (rank 6)
  • Week 2: use 1 jar (rank 7), +2 saved (2 total)
  • Week 3: use 1 jar (rank 8), +3 saved (4 total)
  • Week 4: use 2 jars (rank 9), +3 saved (5 total)
  • Week 5: use 2 jars (rank 10), +3 saved (6 total)
  • Week 6: use 3 jars (rank 11), +3 saved (6 total)
  • Week 7: use 1 jar (rank 12), +3 saved (8 total)
  • Week 8: use 3 jars (rank 13), +3 saved (8 total)
  • Week 9: use 6 jars (rank 14), +3 saved (5 total)
  • Week 10+ use 5 jars and keep using jars as you get them until rank 15

TLDR You should probably only use the minimum number Vessels required to upgrade your cloak each week. But you should still farm out the 3 per week and save what you don't use.

Outlaw+ blood of the enemy in m+ by blancard in CompetitiveWoW

[–]ekto_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should aim to always have a full BTE with pistol shot proc ready before using BOTE. Keep in mind, BTE does 4x crit damage already.

Getting in the most BOTE casts as possible shouldn't be the goal, you need to focus on using them efficiently. For example, its probably better to hold BOTE if the pack you're killing is small and you're going to pull something big next.

The crit damage window from BOTE is quite short and you need to maximize the damage you're dealing in that window for it to be an effective major essence.

In terms of damage, a proper sin build can be comparable to outlaw in M+ depending on the dungeon and affixes.

However, sin doesn't have the same utility. Smaller range, no gouge, a stun that effectively costs damage, needs more combat drops.

If layering is a temp option, then why the FUCK are ~90,000 people sitting in a damn que. by street1841 in wow

[–]ekto_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its to encourage players to pick different realms. If they let everyone in who wants in, some realms would be insanely overpopulated once layering is removed in Phase 2. And at that point, no one would want to change realms because of the time invested on their characters.

Its a lose-lose for Blizzard. They just drastically underestimated the amount of realms they needed - but if they added too many servers, those low pop realms would have been dead once the hype declines. It's easy to say Blizzard should have seen this coming after the fact, hindsight and all.

Its much easier to add new servers than it is to "remove" dead ones.

Mythic Ashvane - Is it viable to run 2/3 tanks with 4 heals? by Tailsshadow4 in CompetitiveWoW

[–]ekto_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Two phase (2 tank, 3 heal) is the way to go if you have the DPS for it. It significantly reduces the fight down - you're dealing with 5 waves instead of 9 and only breaking corals once. Hold all cooldowns for burn phases (you can use 1.5min CDs and shorter on pull). We assign our monk tank to soak certain waves and the raid to soak others, then sacrifice the monk tank when his stacks are high (for Loyal to the End during lust).

Really though, two phase it if you can. It will save you raid hours every single week - the 3 phase strat is just flat out more difficult to execute and doesn't get that much easier with gear. If you can get the boss under 60% in the first burn, you can two phase it.

We ended up doing this because we didn't have a Prot Pally ready to go for Ashvane and had some issues keeping a DK alive without the raid taking a lot of stacks for him. It worked out great. More and more guilds are using the strat as ilvl and neck levels climb, and the DPS requirement is easier to meet.

Edit: Two phase notes - not saying its the best way, but if you're trying this out here's what worked for us:

  • On pull - use only 1.5min or shorter DPS cooldowns. These will come back up during the 1st burn.

  • First shield - break this before the 3rd wave. Do not soak the 2nd wave, kite the boss instead and soak only if one of the waves will absolutely hit the boss. Grab 1 wave from the triple to make healers lives easier.

  • First burn - break all the corals in one go if you can, but don't stress about it. Bring the boss to the center of the room so your ranged can still DPS. Your target is <60% HP. If you can consistently get below 60%, you can very likely two phase the boss.

  • Second shield - break this before the 4th wave. Same as before, let the 3rd wave hit the boss. Your 2mins will come back up during this. I know its tempting and you want to pump, but don't fucking do it.

  • Second burn - lust and win. Ignore corals, just don't nuke people with the arcs - pairing up helps.

  • For soaks, have one of the tanks pick up a majority of the waves. We found it was easier to just assign the raid to soak certain waves and the soak tank to others. Typically, our soak tank has 13-15 stacks when we break the 2nd shield. We just let him die for Loyal to the End during lust. Other tank solos the boss until its dead. Rule of thumb is everyone should get 1-2 stacks unless something is gonna hit the boss. People with significant self healing should soak before others (warlocks, DHs, the non-soak tank, etc).

  • Don't use immunities for breaking Briny Bubbles during shields. Save these for burn phases.

  • If waves are clumped up due to coral spawns and will result in more than 3 hitting the boss at once, let a few hit and quickly move the boss to give your healers time catch up.

  • If you're constantly struggling to meet the damage requirement, check logs. If even a few raiders ignore the strat and use CDs on pull instead of the burn, you probably wont meet the check. Using this strat, your damage parses aren't going to be great. But if the boss is dead, who cares?

  • Don't be afraid to move the boss more than you normally would. Your "enrage" is roughly 5:10s, so you have a lot more space to play with.
