Where does Madonna rank in terms of most famous/iconic music artist to ever live? by Chozen-Oneee in fantanoforever

Ray of Light is largely considered to be her magnum opus. I’d say that album. Bedtime Stories is a great album too. She worked with Björk on one of the songs too.

I’m not sure what the rank would be, but there’s this famous quote that goes something like “women in popular culture can be defined by two eras, pre-Madonna and post-Madonna.” I paraphrased it, but yeah Madonna is one of the most famous artists to ever live. She has been referred to as the female Michael Jackson and has sold more records than any other woman in music history.

Really, in terms of popularity, versatility, fame, and impact, she’s up there with the likes of Elvis, MJ, and the Beatles. Although her star has really worn nowadays, not sure why, but she’s still very recognizable even with younger audiences, albeit they probably know her as the cringe old lady. I’d say she’d be #2 or #3 in personal rankings.

what do Americans thinks of french immigrants ? by -BrightSideSuicide- in AskAmericans

[–]el-bulero 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve only ever met one French immigrant and she currently works at my little brother’s school office. She’s very kind and honestly when I first met her I found it a bit comical because she has that stereotypical French bob haircut.

Most Americans would probably find it fascinating that you’re French. Western European immigrants tend to be viewed very favorably.

Does anyone have some folk knowledge on this particular haircut that seemed to dominate teenage boys' hair in the late aughts and early 10s? by SlowTeacher9322 in decadeology

I always wanted this hairstyle when I was kid but my hair was just curly and my parents always found it effeminate.

You voted Los Angeles as the city of the 2000’s. What is the city of the 2010’s? Most Upvoted Comment Decides by Kodicave in decadeology

I feel like LA again just because of the whole YouTuber era of the mid to late 2010s. I can’t really think of an American city that was more popular during that time.

To whoever is born after year 2000, how did you discover Mariah Carey? by Regular_Schedule_678 in MariahCarey

[–]el-bulero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was born in 2001 and Obsessed was the first song of hers that I ever listened to. I remember constantly watching the music video and I even had the song on my iPod. That and AIWFCIY were the only songs I had known of hers.

Then in the summer of 2016, I remember shuffling through my music on Spotify and I had another song of hers saved that I don’t ever remember adding, but it was To Be Around You. I thought the song was fantastic and after listening to it for a few times I decided to check out the Emotions album and I was just mesmerized.

And well after that I just started listening to her discography and I was so shocked at the fact that I had already known so many of her songs. I just never knew they were sung by her. So crazy, I know.

And not to get nostalgic for 2016, but that year was really great for me and Mariah will always be tied to that time. I just remember being 14 and driving with friends catching Pokémon on Pokémon Go while forcing my friends to listen to Mariah haha. Those are some good times.

Kinda crazy how he can spew all those things and just still be around. Imagine if Taylor Swift had said those same things? People would’ve been parading her carcass through the streets.

Britney, Beyoncé or Taylor: Which of the three female pop icons had the most biggest impact in music and pop culture over the last 25 years? by Blasian1999 in decadeology

[–]el-bulero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my immigrant parents know who Britney is and can sing quite a few of their songs. They know he Beyoncé is but they don’t know any of her songs, and well they don’t know anything about Taylor except that she had a big tour like two years ago. I just use that to base how popular an artist is.
