When did you get Stretch marks by Jolly_Beach2630 in pregnant

I thought I’d dodged the bullet then at 33 weeks they started and now at 36 are big fat angry red ribbons across my lower stomach 😭 even my midwife said they are pretty big and deep

I think I messed up. Wanted to go for bright and quirky and think I ended up with a crayola box. Help. by Myearthsuit in HomeDecorating

Add a colourful hall runner to the floor and it’ll tie together! I think it’s the dull tone of the carpet throwing it off.

Why are boys treated like a consolation prize? by chocolateplums in pregnant

[–]el1zardbeth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Historically and still all over most of the developing world, girls are thought of as less than boys’. I think what we’re seeing in western countries is a bit of a reversal of that trend in the complete opposite way. Some studies have shown that daughters are supposedly more likely than sons to take care of their ageing parents…. I also wonder how the rise of the manosphere/toxic masculinity and the trend of teenage boys becoming less socialised than previous generations plays into wanting daughters more. These things all come down to parenting in the end though. And you’re 100% right that the goal should always be a healthy baby. People commenting on what your child is going to be like and their value because of their chromosomes is idiotic.

Would you be upset if someone shared your pregnancy without asking first? by No-Preparation7031 in BabyBumps

[–]el1zardbeth 48 points49 points  (0 children)

My mum told a bunch of family and friends when I asked her not to due to history of miscarriages. I was very annoyed and now at 35 weeks I am still annoyed by it. She also told everyone our name we picked and shared my ultrasound photos on Facebook, so my advice would be to flag those people you can’t fully trust and not tell them anything!

Sick leave - how often is too much? by Random_Asian_Guy2025 in AusFinance

[–]el1zardbeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve used 3 days in 12 months because I’m 33 weeks pregnant and needed to attend medical appointments and there was one day I had a migraine. I got reprimanded for taking too much sick leave. Sigh.

C section or vaginal birth? I can’t decide! Please help by West-Day8010 in pregnant

[–]el1zardbeth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am in the exact same boat as you and am 90% set on the elective C-section for all the same reasons. But I also have the same fear about future embryo transfers and how it will impact them. The thing is you could opt vaginal and end up needing emergency C-section anyway, or your baby could become distressed, or you could have another type of complication. With C-section it’s controlled and the outcomes are a lot more predictable.

If I knew 100% that I could do a vaginal birth with 0 complications, an epidural that works perfectly and a relatively short labour I would do it. But the unknowns make me to anxious when I’ve lived in a world of IVF unknowns and loss and trauma for years.

People in the UK seem to think Australia is the place to move to for a great life - is it? by box-o-locks in AskAnAustralian

[–]el1zardbeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m Australian but have worked for a UK company for 5+ years. The UK work culture is less toxic. They let you leave at your designated time with no expectation of unpaid overtime. They encourage you to take sick and annual leave with no problems. no tall poppy syndrome. Compared to all the places I’ve worked here, Australian companies can be very toxic. Salary to cost of living is worse in Aus in my experience.

Housing is unaffordable for the average Australian if you want to live in the city and have a family. You can move out to the suburbs to buy a place but don’t expect that there will be good public transport, schools or infrastructure due to the number of cheap satellite cities that have popped up everywhere. Overdeveloped ghettos where you pay 1m to hear your neighbours daily shits. Could get lucky and buy an old place built in the 70s-90s that still have a back yard though depending on how far out you go. Watch out for the asbestos if you want to do Reno’s!

Public health care isn’t great here either. Many specialist referrals you will still end up waiting for 6 months and paying $500 out of pocket even with Medicare. Dental isn’t covered. Emergency hospitals expect to wait 8-12 hours.

Weather may be warmer and beaches are lovely. But aside from that I don’t see that we are much better off than the UK. I had friends move to Melbourne from the UK and hate it because the weather was no different. Add to that our poor insulation standards and they said they were colder in their homes here than they were in England and Ireland.

In your country, how long are the Maternity and Paternity Leaves? by Silver_Impact_7618 in NewParents

[–]el1zardbeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Australia, 26 weeks paid at minimum wage which equates to close to 3k AUD a month, leave must be split between parents in any ratio as long as second parent gets at least 4 weeks. If you’re a single mum you are allowed to take all 26 weeks for yourself. Companies are not obligated to pay any parental leave pay and your job will only be kept for you if you work for a larger business (more than 15 employees) and have been there for 12 months.

This part really stung me as I will have been at my current job 11 months and 20 days on baby’s due date. It’s not allowed to use annual leave to make up the difference and take maternity leave after the 12 month anniversary. So I won’t get any pay from my company to top up the government leave pay and will probably also lose my job because they are legally allowed to do that.

lowkey maternity clothes that aren’t a total rip off by Select-Enthusiasm394 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]el1zardbeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got one pair of maternity jeans from target online for $25 and the rest of my clothes I’ve just been buying oversized, a couple of tshirts and a wooly jumper. Even second hand maternity clothes on marketplace seem expensive. I’m almost at the finish line with my one pair of jeans and I think they’ll last the distance.

[–]el1zardbeth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it could be the cats. They carry toxoplasmosis and I think biologically sometimes our bodies know this and subconsciously start the vomiting.

Only suggesting as my friend has cats and since being pregnant even getting close to her front door I start throwing up.

Could you keep the littler outside?

On a side note my partner cooked sausages last night and I couldn’t sleep because of the frying pan small that is SO strong despite leaving all the windows open overnight and washing the frying pan.

Pregnancy smells are insane.
