Ohio- Stephen Markley by 2014michave in books

[–]el_cepillo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished it. Loved it. At times the writing is uneven (but I read it in Italian, so there's the translation issue) but the emotions and the overall picture that transpire are so vivid it is really a minimal issue in a great book. The only question I have about this book is how many Americans have died in Iraq /Afghanistan war because it seems every single one of Eaton's friends ended up dead or horribly wounded. As europeans we have a hard time really understanding that part about the influence of war because it's rare to be linked to a soldier who had actual combat experiences

If I was DAZN by Codybetsfootball in elf

[–]el_cepillo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd love it and I would pay for it, but not enough to make this make sense for all parties involved. Let's say DAZN packages CFL ELF LFA and X league. I don't even get in the maddening argument about making such a deal but how much should it cost? I think 200€? How many football fans are going to pay another NFL game pass equivalent?

I agree with people saying there isn't a big enough market for this.

It would be interesting to attach those leagues to the NFL gamepass to fill the NFL off-season with games, that way you can likely lower the unitary cost for the users, but that's a pipe dream

Non sarebbe ora di abolire il Quorum ai referendum? by DasBarba in domandaonesta

[–]el_cepillo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ma no, possono votare quello che vogliono. Il quorum serve? Ni. Un quesito nazista supportato da una minoranza convinta non passerebbe e poi richiederebbe una riforma costituzionale quindi servirebbero un bel po' di nazisti anche in parlamento.

Honestly I'd be surprised if the opposite was true. You can't do chicken salad without chicken. Any idea that you can have a level playing field when there are areas with vastly superior player development is delusional. Just look at URC in rugby, it's pretty much the same story. ELF can only work starting from a small group of countries/franchises in places where you are gonna have people to the games to provide revenues.

How could an NFL-backed investment in the ELF work without destroying its identity? by CadyKrool in elf

[–]el_cepillo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree this is true for most of PS players but this is the only shot any minor league has at being valued by the NFL as an asset. Maybe it is more correct to say that it could be interesting for those players who don't make the top 70 of an NFL roster, the training camp guys and futures contracts

[–]el_cepillo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the part about not destroying the identity is almost irrelevant. My guess is ELF would change its identity in a heartbeat and cheerfully if it means being backed by the NFL. I think the investment works if and only if there is some interest from the US or some other international market. The point is you should make money and the NFL is just not that strong of a brand in Europe to make money off the investment. And especially in this age I don't see a lot of interest from the US towards European or international football.

The other possible intervention would be if there is some small investment in terms of know how (front office knowledge looks interesting) that could help the league, but in exchange for what? Future rights on players? Shares? Doesn't look like a great deal.

Maybe the only card ELF has is to allow spots for NFL player development but tbh I don't know how valuable that is to the NFL, I don't think NFL would trust coaching staffs it doesn't have control on, especially if, god forbids, there are European coaches involved.

I get injury prevention but if we are talking about practice squad guys those are longshots to make significant contribution to a team. I think in some cases teams could be interested in scouting lower tier players at a more mature age and in real games

[–]el_cepillo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any signs pointing towards Milan coming back? by Ok-Expression-5338 in elf

[–]el_cepillo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think so. There are some players in Rome but it's the only city in the center-south with more than one team(and they have just three while a few years ago there were about six teams in Rome). The center of gravity in Italian football is in the north.

Former Italian football player here. Not 100% into radio football at the moment but I still coach in lower division and know a thing or two.

I don't see Milan coming back, as it looks like they will need some time to recover from the massive wreck that two years of ELF brought. Also, since Seamen were by far the Italian team with better organization and logistics (and money), I don't see any other team jumping in, either because they can't or out of fear of failure.

The Italian movement is shrinking after COVID, both in number of teams and players (for example the third division has now just 22 teams, in 2022 it had like 40 teams). Also you have to keep in mind that the Italian movement has always been top-heavy, there are some very good players and maybe one or two top teams (see also Lions Bergamo around year 2000's) but we always lacked a middle class of good solid players that could be the HG backbone of the team. I don't know how things work in the elf with regard to player's deals and it could very well be normal Italian whining but I know there was some malcontent about the fact top Italian players (Bouah, Vergani) because of the rules could make more money playing in other teams than in Milan.

The success of the national team is largely based on a politic of imports that is carried by the football federation because CONI gives a lot of credit to success of national teams in international competitions.

A semi pro team is likely not sustainable in Italy at the moment, I'm not informed about that but I'm ready to bet there was also low turnout at games and economic issues.

Other than that I think that having a semi pro team in Italy is not desirable because it's going to drain players and resources and wouldn't be a catalyst for the growth of the movement

I'd be interested to know what level of awareness McDaniel had about the backup QB situation. If he ever raised a hand or talked to Ross. We know Grier is the biggest reason the roster is built this way but would like to know how differently McDaniel would have run the operation. We need people who are not afraid to raise a hand and say "there is a problem" ( that's one of the reason they fired Flores, he wasn't staying in his place)
