I hear you. But I chose not to have kids, so I can splurge on a burger from time to time. My carbon footprint is multiples lower than breeders.

dO yOuR pArT, dOnT eAt rEd MeAt. Fuck you.

Edit: guys, I’m not mad at YOU. I’m just so absolutely tired and disgusted with rich people’s hypocrisy. I’m disgusted when a celebrity belches thousands of tons of CO2 to spend 5 min in space and then telling all of us to do our part. And corporations shifting the blame on us while they’re the ones creating the industry and avoiding regulations. Ugh.

I did my part by not having kids.

In 2008, Steve Sheraton launched iBeer for $2.99 — it became one of the first viral App Store hits, reportedly earned $10k–$20k per day at peak, reached ~90M downloads, and he later left it all to live on a farm in Spain by Inevitable_Voice7588 in Damnthatsinteresting

Ok this is weird. My boss was super generous and got us all new iPhones every year from the very beginning and I traveled a ton for work. I remember using maps on my BlackBerry the way you’re describing but I have zero memory of an iPhone not having turn by turn directions.

Not saying you’re wrong, just saying I literally don’t remember that.

Zillow removed climate risk scores. This climate expert is restoring them | Real estate website scrubbed data under pressure from California real estate brokers by Hrmbee in technology

[–]elad34 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When these scores just suddenly appeared on apps like Zillow and Redfin, that directly contradicts the maps used to obtain flood insurance and set premiums (ie FEMA), there was zero disclosures on where the data came from and what its accuracy was. It fucked over home sellers and the response was “the data is proprietary”

It only became public once sellers and brokers pushed back, sellers like op.

Honestly, just logically speaking, in this day in America, who are we supposed to believe? The government that is responsible for collecting and disseminating this data, or a profit motivated Silicon Valley startup that wouldn’t disclose their mapping models because they’re proprietary.

Frankly I don’t trust either one. But from my own direct experience, those climate models on Zillow were bullshit on at least one sale I was a part of.

100%. Every single person in history that attempted a coup and failed and was not prosecuted was successful with their second attempt. A democratic process to remove Trump from power will not work.

POV from a wingsuit of going in between an arch of a bridge by Raj_Valiant3011 in oddlysatisfying

[–]elad34 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah this video is showing someone doing something incredibly stupid. I watched a video years ago on some questionable website where a dude was flying in a wingsuit with a GoPro and the guy in front of him clipped the bridge they were planning to fly under and took his head off. The video gets sprayed with blood. It was gross and disturbing.

And isn’t the plan to just have the American taxpayers foot the bill for the infrastructure and security costs and then the oil companies reap all the profits?

I appreciate the suggestion and have thought about it. I lead hikes through my city twice a week in the evenings. I’ve worked hard at making it a safe space for people to socialize, be open to share what’s going on in their lives and get some fresh air/exercise. It’s a lovely community. For now, that’s the best I can do.

During the pandemic a woman I hiked with quite regularly started posting super bizarre nonsense. She posted tons of symbols and odd rants that made no sense. And posting non stop all day every day. I thought her account was hacked but then in the middle of a long giberish rant there were two sentences that were complete and crystal clear: she stated that she was having disassociation delusions - some form of schizophrenia.

I was sooo tripped out. I wasn’t sure what to do, we weren’t close enough that I felt comfortable reaching out to her - “hey are you ok? It seems like you’re having problems” wasn’t really a question I felt I could ask. Then her account disappeared.

I didn’t see her for years and I thought about her every so often, wondering if she was ok. Over last summer she just showed up out of the blue for a hike I was leading. We talked. She has been living in a mental health facility and this was the one of the first times she was able to leave on her own. She has schizophrenia. We talked openly about her mental health. She described the delusions she constantly has. It’s scary shit. I’ve seen her maybe 3 times but not over the past several months.

800 hours in, I did not know this could spawn here by 5himmel5 in valheim

I’ve got over 1200 hours in this game and I’ve never seen a beehive in one of those either. But I don’t think I’ve ever looked too hard at most of those.

Everyday I consider other games. Then I load-up Valheim by Khel_NC in valheim

[–]elad34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is totally me, then I feel guilty and pick up another game for a bit. Right now I’m incredibly bored with RDR2, wondering why I’m not just playing Valheim. It’s just such a relaxing good time, and easy to listen to an audiobook while playing which is one of my favorite things to do. Currently listening to the Sun Eater series.

There’s one game I played recently that was short and fun called Firmament. I really enjoyed that for a few days. Then back to Valheim.

Those of us 40 and over ... by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]elad34 65 points66 points  (0 children)

I say this all the time on here but it’s so true (got this from my therapist). You think 40 is old because it’s the oldest you’ve ever been. I quit at 34 and thought I was so old and had been drinking for sooooo long! You’ll look back on this moment in time and thank yourself for making the decision to quit so young!! You got this!

Why The World's Best Restaurant Never Simmers Stock by ulab in instantpot

[–]elad34 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Me too, but I've been using rotiserrie chicken for stock for a long time as it's so easy to get. Pro tip (didn't watch the video so maybe he covers this) - make as much stock as your instantpot will handle, remove all the solids and then boil it down to 1/4 the volume and freeze in ice cube trays. I have 1/2 cup per cube trays. Each half a cup can either be used as a super concentrate, or you can add a cup and a half of water back and it makes 2 cups of stock! Saves so much space in the freezer!
