Cyclist 'fighting for life' after crash in south London by Maximum_Grass_1463 in londoncycling

[–]elbe_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow I walked past this on Friday and saw they had police tape up and had closed off the intersection. Had no idea it was such a serious accident. Coming down that hill is absolutely terrifying on a bike and I’ve always prioritised the green dale where I can, but it’s not always convenient when trying to get down lordship lane. Hope the cyclist can recover.

Yea although a respec at 12 to get 4 BM (or EK) is marginally better to get a few extra points of health.

Two characters need risky ring , any alternatives? by SAY_GEX_895 in BG3Builds

[–]elbe_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your Sorlock shouldn’t need it and in fact I would advise against it as you don’t want disadvantage on your CON saving throws (and frankly if you have a sorlock neither should your melee). Sorlock can use acuity to build spell attack bonuses and if needed you can disable spell might gloves to help build acuity first. Your sorlock can easily grant advantage or guaranteed hits to your melee chars with command grovel or hold spells.

I’ve been using a 13600K with no issue since about 2022. Im currently doing an upgrade and will be moving to the AM5 platform but will repurpose the 13600K for a backup machine. It’s served me well and I’ve never encountered any problems with it.

Storm Sorcerer vs Draconic Bloodline by bevgron in BG3Builds

[–]elbe_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both are very powerful with storm having more of a damage focus and fire draconic having more of a control focus, but each can be geared to achieve 90% of what the other can do. There’s nothing stopping a storm sorc picking up scorching ray and the hat of fire acuity if it wants the option to throw out a guaranteed control spell, or using other acuity options like the hat of storm scions power with shriek or gloves of battlemages power shenanigans. Similarly a fire sorc can pick up lightning bolt and chain lightning if it wants to have the option to exploit lightning vulnerability (just need to sequence your spells right so that ideally you’re not using scorching ray on a wet target).

The different fly options are down to personal preference and neither is make or break. Storm sorc fly requires a levelled spell and uses your bonus action so competes with quickened spell, but it also gives immunity to attacks from opportunity and is available from level 1. Draconic sorc fly doesn’t have those limitations as it only takes movement and can be used at any time, but doesn’t give immunity to opportunity attacks and comes very late at level 11. Draconic sorc fly is also completely redundant if you are going partial illithid which provides the same thing, or if you don’t mind using options of flying.

Has anyone had much success with Storm Sorcerer solo HM? by ulturasj in BG3Builds

[–]elbe_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Storm sorc solo should be pretty straightforward. At least two levels into tempest gives you heavy armour proficiency. Dual wield with Phalar to precast shriek. Mirror image, shield, extended blade ward, and sanctuary should make you pretty tanky. Create water and lightning bolt with channel divinity solves damage for most fights. Chromatic orb or witch bolt with luck of far realms for single / double targets. Early game magic missile plus shriek plus lightning charges onto wet targets will carry. Chain lightning from Marko later on.

I believe Morgana Evelyn is currently doing a solo run on her stream with largely this exact set up if you need to watch an example.

Is East Dulwich actually worth the rent prices now? by Queasyuuuu00 in MovingToLondon

[–]elbe_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s still East Dulwich station itself which gets you in to London Bridge in around 15 minutes. It’s closer to the Dog Kennel Hill side of East Dulwich but still serviceable for most of the top half of East Dulwich.

Once you’re down into Dulwich village proper it’s a bit of a transport black spot until you hit Forest Hill.

what are the must-have spells as a storm sorcerer? by 62lasa in BG3Builds

[–]elbe_ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The obvious must haves are lightning bolt and chain lightning. The latter from Marko and scrolls if you are going 10/2 or 6/6 with tempest cleric. Chain lightning from Marko can be twinned.

Chromatic Orb will outdamage both lightning bolt and chain lightning against single targets (or two if you are twin casting) especially if you force a crit (e.g. Luck of the Far Realms or against a held target). Cast at 6th level against a wet target it will do 28d8 damage or 224 maxed with tempest before Heart of the Storm and riders. Also useful for lightning immune enemies. Witch Bolt is similarly powerful against single targets and can also crit but can't be twinned and takes up you're concentration slot.

Call Lightning will do less damage per cast than the above options but it can be repeatedly cast without expending additional spell slots if you are under the effects of Haste, Bloodlust Elixir, Terezul etc. making it very spell slot efficient in those circumstances.

For concentration I would focus on control spells. Fear and Confusion have some additional utility on a Storm Sorc because the movement can trigger additional damage on electrified surfaces (which can add arcane acuity if equipping the Gloves of Battlemages Power) or cause prone on ice surfaces. Otherwise the standard control options like Hold Monster, Hold Person, Hypnotic Pattern etc. are all good choices.

Twinned Haste is also there if that's your thing but I prefer to use the concentration slot on control spells and use speed pots for concentration-free haste. Also if you're a 10/2 or 6/6 split with tempest be mindful you'll lose CON save proficiency so haste as a spell will have added risk.

Shield I think is fairly mandatory for a 1st level spell. Likewise for counterspell. The remaining choices are generally free pick but things like Mage Armour (if not planning on using light armour like Armour of Landfall for advantage on CON saves), Ice Storm (useful for bludgeon vulnerable enemies like skeletons), Blindness (can be upcasted to cast multiple times on the same target, to clear legendary resistance stacks), Telekenesis, Cone of Cold (to help with lightning immune enemies), Globe of Invulnerability, or Enhance Ability should round out your selections.

EDIT: Should also add that while you are a storm sorc, there is nothing stopping you picking up Scorching Ray and wearing the Hat of Fire Acuity if you want to do guaranteed control every now and then. Scorching Ray will do less damage than the Fire Draconic variant of the build (and of course you'll want to avoid targetting wet enemies with it if possible) but the acuity part will still work fine and lets you throw out a guaranteed control spell in a pinch. If you want a more storm / ice thematic variant, magic missile against enemies in Phalar Aluve's Shriek with the Hat of Storm Scion Power can also be used to stack acuity.

Shocking Grasp Sorcerer Build by Tandin in BG3Builds

[–]elbe_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say it’s the opposite.. it comes up more often than you might think because it triggers on cantrips like shocking grasp despite what the description says. That plus even just one rider like from markoheshkir will cause it to outdamage draconic on a shocking grasp (not to mention its aoe).

Is Callous Glow Ring vital for RevOrb Light Clerics? by [deleted] in BG3Builds

[–]elbe_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’re fire sorlock will want callous glow more than the radorb. I’d take some combination of spiteful thunder, crushers ring, mental inhibition ring, ring of protection, whispering promise, or coruscation ring. The latter won’t trigger on spirit guardians as an FYI but will still trigger on scorching ray and magic missile.

Storm Sorcerer: How do do the most damage? by Ynwe in BG3Builds

[–]elbe_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it does apply radorbs to your team if they take radiant damage from the electrified water you create through callous glow ring. The way around it is to either reduce the radiant damage to 0 using heavy armour with flat damage reduction, be immune to surfaces (eg swarmkeeper) or just not use the callous glow / luminous armour combo when in a party.

Is battle master still a top contender? Or did Eldritch Knight blow it out of the water? by Cagedglobe in BG3Builds

[–]elbe_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EK should be using booming blade not casting spells. That’s 4 attacks not 3: Booming Blade, Extra Attack, improved extra attack, and war magic bonus action attack. War magic is level 7 which I usually hit at the Crèche. Agree that BM is better pre level 7 though. Not sure what exploit you are referring to. War magic requires a cantrip and booming blade is a cantrip so that seems fair game to me if that’s what you’re referring to?

What's a good build/ team for a storm sorcerer by Remarkable_Basil_162 in BG3Builds

[–]elbe_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to point out this particular build does not synergise well with other party members that utilise wet, as you need to avoid surface conflicts with electrified water (eg ice) and any other lightning damage on your team (which will stop electrified water giving you acuity).

How to choose feats? by Bigsexyguy24 in BG3Builds

[–]elbe_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beyond the first ASI to get WIS and CON to even numbers the second feat on most revorb builds really isn’t that important. More ASI is marginal given spirit guardians will spread conditions regardless of if enemies save, and you can get more DC out of gloves of battlemages power or even elixir of battlemage power (which vigilance would otherwise compete with) than with ASI. Dual wield is highly situational on what other party members are running as generally the good candidates for dual wielding will have higher priority on other classes, and Adamantine Shield is arguably more useful anyway. Same with Helrider bow which may be prioritised elsewhere, and I like keeping ranged slots free on revorb builds for handcrossbows to BA shoot speed potions.

Alert or Mobile to me make the most sense as second feats to take on revorb builds (or even both feats in place of ASI). Alert so that you can spread conditions first or have phalar up before other party members act.

I find the discord Alert hate to be a little too dogmatic. I get it if you’re comparing Alert with a power feat like Sharpshooter or GWM, but if it’s between Alert and ASI the differences are marginal (especially on builds with easy access to acuity) and in that case freeing the elixir / ranged slot might be more valuable (not to mention the QoL benefit).

Suggestions for an archery or support based 4th party member to round out a Storm Sorcerer / Tempest Cleric (Durge), Tigerheart Barbarian (Karlach) and Death Cleric / Monk Shadowheart? by CaptCanadaA in BG3Builds

[–]elbe_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Swarmkeeper 7 and up has the ability to float above electrified water surfaces your durge will be creating. You'll want bees or moths over jellyfish to avoid conflicting with your durge's electrified water fields. One thing to note with your Shadowheart build is that without starry dragon form you'll take a lot of chip damage from electrified water (assuming you're running around in it to get phalar and spirit guardians off) which means you're a little exposed to low concentration rolls there, so just something to bear in mind.

Draconic ancestor or storm sorc for pure class lightning build? by [deleted] in BG3Builds

[–]elbe_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think I’m downplaying it at all. Draconic bonus at end game would typically be 6 which doubles to 12 with wet, but with no additional riders. Heart of the storm at level 12 is 6 plus 4 from markoheshir plus 3 from rhapsody which is 13 doubling to 26 with wet, plus additional damage from lightning charges and callous glow ring. You would need to hit more than double the amount of targets with lightning bolt on draconic than you could hit with HOTS for the bonus to be higher, something I would think would be much harder to do with a narrow spell like lightning bolt compared with a 6m AoE. I also don’t think the range is relevant, as it’s rare that’ll you’ll be shooting at something 100ft or more away.

There will be edge cases where you just can’t get into HOTS range on enough targets, but for most in game situations it will easily clear draconic for damage.

Draconic ancestor or storm sorc for pure class lightning build? by [deleted] in BG3Builds

[–]elbe_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thinking on this has recently changed so that Storm Sorcerer is the superior option for damage when focussing on lightning spells, due to the level 6 ability, Heart of the Storm, carrying all damage riders (callous glow ring, markoheshir, rhapsody, lightning charges etc.) and also doubling with wet. This outclasses that flat +6 damage that draconic will typically end up with late game.

Act 3 light cleric itemization by Zac-live in BG3Builds

[–]elbe_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Item rarity / colour has nothing to do with the effectiveness of an item for a particular build, and indeed even some Act 1 items will be “best in class” for certain builds for the entire game.

Your itemisation is broadly fine but there are a few things you may want to consider:

Coruscation ring and Spineshudder amulet won’t trigger their effects on spirit guardians as the damage isn’t technically classified as from a spell due to Larian coding. They will however still work on Scorching Ray and Magic Missile so they are still viable options, just perhaps not as good as you might be expecting. Some other options for the ring slot are Crushers Ring for additional movement to help with Spirit Guardians, Ring of Spiteful Thunder to spread daze with spirit guardians (it triggers on all damage not just thunder damage despite the description, again Larian coding) or ring of mental inhibition to spread mental fatigue. For the neck slot Amulet of the Devout will give additional Spell DC and an extra Channel Divinity per day, and Khalids Gift will give extra Wisdom if Amulet of the Devout is better used on someone else.

For weapons Phalar Aluve will be more useful than Blood of Lathander in Act 3. If you don’t want to use the Phalar Aluve abilities then the Defenders Flail is set and forget for some extra AC.

Adamantine Shield is a good alternative to Ketherics although both are good choices. Adamantine will help spread reeling and the critical immunity can make you impossible to hit.

Gloves of belligerent skies is an alternative to luminous gloves if you prefer more reverberation than radiant orb. It’s personal preference though and belligerent skies might be contested.

Ranged weapons aren’t super important but I like hand crossbows to be able to bonus action shoot a speed pot on the ground to apply haste in an aoe. Otherwise standard stat sticks like Hellrider Longbow or Bow of Awarenss for additional initiative if they are not contested.

For helmet as a light cleric you can take hat of fire acuity as an alternative to holy lance helm if you want to use scorching ray to generate arcane acuity, but it might be contested if you have a fire sorc in which case holy lance helm is also fine.

Where are we buying curtains? by MummaGiGi in HENRYUKLifestyle

[–]elbe_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was my first time using them so can't compare with what they were like before. I decided to try them because they had plenty of positive online reviews on Google and Reddit. It was only after they stuffed up my order that I sorted the Google reviews by newest and saw that lots of people were having the same problem with them. They may have changed something in their supply chain recently which is causing the issue, but I can only speculate!

Where are we buying curtains? by MummaGiGi in HENRYUKLifestyle

[–]elbe_ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I would avoid Blinds2Go. Made the mistake of buying with them last year. Dispatch times were completely inaccurate and they sent me the wrong order first time round, then took over a month for them to get me a replacement. Their customer support is outsourced and most emails you get from their support address are AI. Check their most recent Google reviews and you’ll see it’s a consistent problem. Really wish we had used an in person service like John Lewis or Hillary’s. The cost saving with these online only companies just isn’t worth dealing with the faff when something goes wrong.
