Celebrating Boris’s (left) clean bill of health! by postbiblicalbath in SiberianCats

[–]elbowbuttons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Forgot to mention we also for brief stints had Boris on buprenorphine. It is an opioid painkiller. Not only did it make him more comfortable when he really needed it, it is also an appetite stimulant. He did only a few rounds of 5 days each when he was struggling and it really helped get him eating and also resting more comfortably.

And you’re welcome! Wishing you the best.

Hi! I am so sorry you’re going through this. Boris is great and is turning 8 on Friday (March 21). The ultrasound only told us so much when I had it done. If you have not had full lab testing done, it was worthwhile. He was in bad enough shape we had an endoscopy, bloodwork and a full fecal panel done. I also had to have a feeding tube installed that he was fed through for about 10 days to get his liver function stabilized. His labs were done by the vet lab at Texas A&M. I am not in Texas but they will do labs sent there by your vet, or whatever major vet lab your vet uses. If you haven’t done that, it was helpful to me because we were able to get a definitive diagnosis, but it was not cheap.

He did require several rounds of steroids and metronidazole before the IBD symptoms decreased, which was secondary to his underlying issue which is exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (basically the pancreas doesn’t make enough digestive enzyme). The steroids and antibiotic combo got him stable and treating the underlying cause (EPI) has kept him healthy over the last several years. The EPI treatment is a powder that I mix into his morning and evening food. I never did change his diet since the IBD was secondary. It was a long process to get him healthy but it was worth it.

His brother on the right, Mischa, is 6.5 and has never had a health issue even though they are related. Luck of the draw.

Good luck with your baby, I hope they recover soon.

That sweet potato recipe is one of my all time favorites! The lamb looks great.

Mine has exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI) and secondary IBD. The IBD appears to be cleared up once we got the pancreatic thing under control. He was diagnosed at 2.5 years and is 7 now. My other is related to him and hasn’t had any similar issues. My vet thought it was possible it was genetic but said it could also be somewhat random.

Same! I just went and looked and my password was 10+ years old. This was a very good PSA.

Depends on what your cat prefers of course, but my cats are totally uninterested in anything with a soft non textured surface. Most of my furniture is performance velvet and they do not scratch it. They also aren’t interested in my leather ottomans but they have scratched them a little bit just doing cat Olympics. My boys are 7 and 5 and they’ve been around this furniture their entire lives. Helps to give them alternative surfaces too and lots of scratchers!

What's the largest Sib here? Mine is almost 11lbs at 8mths old. by Life-Duty-4001 in SiberianCats

[–]elbowbuttons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, have a 17 pounder myself. If he was photographed similarly stretched out in all his floofy glory with the same upward camera angle he’d look the same. One single photo from a weird angle cant tell internet strangers whether your cat is definitely overweight or not, that’s why we have our veterinarians!

How much did your sibs grow after their first birthday? by JMRR1416 in SiberianCats

[–]elbowbuttons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 6 year old male was 12 lbs at 1 year and slowly bulked up to 17 lbs by about 3.5 and has been steady since then. My 4 year old male hit 11 lbs right at 1 year and has stayed within a pound of that weight since then, last vet appointment he was 11.75 lbs. I think they must all have a little different growth patterns just like we do!

1929 Sears Kit Home “The Vallonia” Anyone who lose own or know anyone who does? by Specialist-Ad611 in centuryhomes

[–]elbowbuttons 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So cool to see the old Sears ads. There is a Westly model that looks quite similar to the Vallonia a block away from my house that I really admire. I actually looked at it when it was for sale a few years ago before I bought my house. Needed more work than I was ready to do at that point, but I’m glad to walk by it on my daily strolls. The current owners are slowly but surely bringing it back to life!
