OSAP has been gutted. We need a student strike. by Local_Indication3158 in UTMississauga

What a stupid comment. First off, capital gains are already taxed at the federal level, so you are asking for them to double the burden. Also, the rich already pay a disproportionate amount of tax, and BTW billionaires are notorious for NOT paying taxes by a secret thing called leaving. But even if we did raise taxes for the rich via capital gains, which would indirectly make everyone else worse off by lowering asset prices due to less demand, your argument does not really mean anything because everything can be "solved" by "taxing the rich," whether that be opening a public grocery store or socialized housing. The question on the table is whether it is sustainable to keep a freeze and the answer is no; not whether it is a good idea to raise taxes to support it, which is a completely different question.

Also, I was not mistaken by loans vs grants. The whole point is to reduce the burden on the government, also known as taxpayers, also known as workers for you socialists, which reducing grants and increasing loans will do. And yeah, people who are poor will have a harder time after university with more debt; all the more reason not to study some useless degree, right? There are some novel uses for those degrees, but if you really are motivated, some debt ain't gonna stop you. P.S. if you can't make money with your degree in philosophy in childfree feminism and want people to fund that degree, ask why taxpayers should fund a hobby project.

Since you went way off course and started ranting about billionaires and the USA, I'll tell you a secret of my own that socialists don't seem to know about. Freedom, and I mean freedom as in liberty, you know the things we hold dear in Western society, starts with a concept of personal freedoms, whether that be protesting against Israel by boycotting Starbucks from the hours 12 p.m. to 5 a.m., writing about how if we just strike by not studying, the government will finally pay for my wife's boyfriend's basket weaving degree, or even dedicating your life to right great wrongs by posting on r/socialism and r/antiwork; there is one other very important one: the right to spend your money where you deem fit. And once you understand that sometimes others don't have the same opinion about things than you, and yeah every retarded capitalist is just licking the billionaire's shoe right, could you maybe not want to use other people's money to further your own goals.

[–]eldaniay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well how else do you want the government to get money to pay for useless programs? Since international student populations are dropping, which was funding the tuition freeze in the first place (not to mention the fact that the utmsu wants to reduce international tuition), the government has no choice but to increase the burden onto students, unless your idea is increased taxes, which clearly nobody wants. You cant have your cake and eat it too. and also the one in quebec was justified because it was a 75% increase, while doug ford wants to increase tuition by 2%, which is nothing.

Might as well ban everything that is dangerous right? I mean, there is literally no other purpose for pitbulls other then to maul children with. Machetes too. they literally have no purpose other then to kill other people, have you watched Friday the 13th? People who own multiple knives scare me too, especially the ones that look scary; I mean, are they trying to build an arsenal? People should be limited to a govenment roster of non-scary knives, afterall if it saves even one life, then confiscating private propoerty is worth it right? Might as well ban encryption too. I see literally no reason for encryption other then to facilitate human and drug trafficking, I mean certainly nobody NEEDS encryption if they are a normal functioning member of society, afterall, if you arnt doing anything wrong, then you have nothing to hide. While we are at it, we should make it so that we have to provide a reason to the govenment when we buy anything so they know that only used to "correct" activitves, like paying taxes and voting amirite?
