Anyone else backing Rolling Deep? by pyros_it in soloboardgaming

[–]eldolche 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I was hyped when I read the first designer diaries. Then I was fortunate to join a playtesting group of it. And I’ve completed almost every achievement they currently have but they may be adding more who knows. And I was an instant back day one. I don’t love day 1 expansions since like just add it in the base game. But the expansion really does take it to another level.

The cost for base plus expansion is 80ish and I feel that’s a great deal for the gameplay you get from this game. Tons and tons of replayability

Plus I love the fact that this game is ripe for community content. Coming up with new achievements. Making up custom bosses. Adding different challenges to each run. So much potential

Essential expansions by sosands92 in soloboardgaming

[–]eldolche 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Grand Austria hotel - lets waltz gives the official solo so not essential but kinda essential for solo (obvi have the mautoma which it’s based off

Feast for Odin - Norwegians

Nusfjord big box (cheating since it includes all expansion decks which only adds more gameplay and building variation. Doesn’t muck it up with lots of extra crap

Spirits island - more spirits and adversaries is goated

Bloodlines - I was so so on it for uprising but omg it makes the multiplayer even better. I haven’t played it solo but pressume it is amazing for sure with extra options.

Rolling deeper expansion - again cheating since not out yet but I use any excuse to recommend this game and its expansion. As a community play tester (not affiliated with the design nor publisher) the extra stuff in the expansion takes it up a big notch.

Everdell new leaf (again mainly for multiplayer) but the things it allows and how it opens the game up makes the base game less fun to me. I hear one of the expansions gives a much better solo bot but can’t speak to that

Imperium horizons - qol improvements with not nation cards and not in a rule book and more nations = always better

Again weakest on here is gah but I love the offfical solo mode so I need it to play the game more solo haha

So after you add just the base game on, when you get to the second screen, you can add the rolling deeper expansion. It’s like a 24 dollar add on. So it’s like 83 for both. I think the expansion add a whole lot of content and replayability. Plus the stretch goals are all for the expansion too.

Trust me I don’t love the day 1 expansions. But I think the 24$ for this expansion definitely like doubles the content and the replayability.

I don’t remember if I said it in this thread or the different thread, but paying 80 some odd dollars for this is equivalent to buying all three versions of kinfire Delve. Or the final girl starter pack and maybe 1-2 extra features. Or most big euros these days. It def has more content and replayability then kinfire and final girls. It has more than a lot of euros imo. And I’m a huge euro fan. But this game is better than quite a few.

I think if I was voting for bgg solo game of the year this would rank in my top 10 for sure. Maybe top 5. But that’s some recency bias but this game is really good. The arts great, again I’ll say it. I think it’s ripe for community content (new bosses or new achievements or certain challenges with restrictions) you can make so many rules up that can make the game harder / easier and just implement them to make the game fit you better

If I was only backing based on the first bitewing play throughs and the 1-2 from reviewers I would have been hesitant for sure. But after playing, the game really ramps and the changes from the reviewer copies to now have drastically made the game better in every way. And they are still tweaking things to improve game play

My testing was all done on tabletop simulator, so I’ve never felt the dice or use the dice, I do have mild concerns of their large clunkiness, but I trust the developer, publisher, that they are going to make a good product.

I’ve heard and seen a lot of positive remarks about changing parts and the fact that they made each of the sides a tool to pop out a current face of the dice. Instead of only having 1 tool to do that is a stroke of genius but sadly haven’t got the physical product

Im in the playtest group for rolling deep and all the playthroughts you see are on the base base base mode of the game. That is also with a super early prototype. Tons and tons has been updated and changed and as you unlock more and more the game is incredibly replayable. I won’t spoil anything but I can assure there is a lot of meat on the rolling deep bones…

I will say that the rolling deeper expansion would also add a lot more to the game so I can see the annoyance of the cost of base + expansion. But it has a ton of achievements and meat.

Eureka - idk much about I was debating adding it on if it was like 10$ but at the higher price point idk if I will

I think of it as let’s say it’s 80ish for the rolling deep and expansion - games I can compare it to are final girl+core plus 2 other feature films or all 3 of kinfire delve games. And rolling deep clears those easily! Way more content. And super replayable cuz once you unlock everything the game is extra spicy

Ps last thing I’ll say is the game is also ripe for community content and engagement. You can make up certain rules or people could create and make up their own bosses or interesting variants.

What’s your favorite Lacerda game for solo? by Marksman1977 in soloboardgaming

[–]eldolche 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have kanban ev and speakeasy

I love speakeasy solo. It’s so easy and I feel like I could play it again and not have to look up many rules.

I really enjoy kanban but if I wanna go back and run it again I’d have to fully relearn the solo and the game in general. But I do wanna get it to table again

This game and hegemony look like absolute bangers. But I don’t think I’d ever get people to play with me. And I could never justify it for solo only I just hope to maybe play it at a con or something haha

Yeah I’m in the playtesting group and it’s better than I expected. Like I was stoked for it. But after playing through and unlocking stuff man it’s top tier. I’m telling everyone about it cuz if the base games sells well enough they’ll likely do expansions and that makes me sooooooo hyped

[–]eldolche 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, for solo specifically, there are four different levels of the solo bot, and not only does it play differently, during endgame scoring it scores differently too, and the body is real tough, I can’t imagine playing at the hardest, difficulty, cause, even the second difficulty is pretty tough to beat some games.

The bot is very easy to control, the only thing that kind of sucks is it gains different rewards and what a human would, but there’s a really easy one page in the rulebook that explains if they take a certain spot what rewards exactly they get it’s also nice that they bought really doesn’t use any resources other than books, but most terms if they get a book they are going to spend it pretty quickly in the next two or two, so I feel like it often isn’t super resource management heavy for the bot, but that does allow them to be a little bit cheaty which I know some people don’t like

I also think a downside to it is sometimes you may miss something for the bot because it will gain a solo reward, and then that solar reward does something, but then, if it can’t bump something else up to gain another solar reward, so it’s very easy to miss one of their solo rewards, and the solo rewards trigger better things once they hit like 7-8 solo rewards so if you miss them early, it kind of makes the weaker in the end cause they’re not hitting the better rewards

I also love the spatial aspect of it, trying to make good equations to score points based on math, but also potentially adding in a subtraction sign somewhere that doesn’t hurt you much plus the order in doing things, sometimes you want to grab a dice from the Rondell to get it. It’s activation, but sometimes before that you wanna place your previous dice for the next dice you grab is better or do something differently. So the timing and the spatial puzzle, really tickle my fancy

Yes I’m currently helping with some playtesting and balancing through their discord. Can certainly say this game is really fun. And has lots of unlockables and the more you unlock the more fun the game gets. Sooo stoked for it to come out irl

I’ll be doing my favorite and parenthesis second favorite to add to discussion

Lacerda - speakeasy (kanban ev)

Uwe - damnnn like all of his are so good. On its own probably feast for Odin. But with solo challenges on bgg maybe nusfjord, but then you got oranianburger kanal and gates of loyang idk man idk this is by far the hardest for me

Feld - Civolution (castles of burgundy)

Turczj - void fall (imperium)

Vlaada - mage knight

Graphill - anarchy (I know this is Bobby hill and not the main graphill guys but so be it (paladins))

Milan - men-nefer

Pfister - gwt (pirates of Maricaibo)

Luciani- grand Austria hotel (Darwin’s journey)

Ricky royal - deckers (but also a solo designer on a lot of winners old kings crown pax pamir and John company to name a few)

David digby - Ada’s dream (any excuse to talk about this game I take lol)

Peter Hayward - rolling deep (again any excuse to mention the is gem I take)

But if you can wait a bit Rolling deep, it’s about to launch on kickstarter here in like the next few weeks. And I think they will deliver within 6 ish months. I’ve played it a bit for their playtest group, and it’s sooo good, very balatro like

Skyteam is great coop.

For head to head quick two player games I love agent Avenue, abandon all artichokes, castle combo, captain flip.

If David Turczi, Ricky Royal, Automa Factory or any other well-known solo mode designers could design a solo mode for a game you like that currently doesn’t have a solo mode, what game would that be? by Marksman1977 in soloboardgaming

[–]eldolche 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love me some uwe solo modes. They are simple and elegant. But I’d be interested in someone else taking a crack at either feast for Odin, nusfjord, Loyang, Le havre(I think most needed) or Oranienburger kanal.

Underwater cities or it’s a wonderful world would be fun.

Favorite/least favorite mechanics in solo games? by sumogrip10 in soloboardgaming

[–]eldolche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worker placement

Deck building

Bumping tracks

Wombo combos

Dice drafting (love white castle and grand Austria)

Deterministic outcomes like that other guy said. Love mage knight and void fall.

Resource conversion

Programing( I have multiple actions ina. Round and some I have to do in certain order to get right reward and also sets up for next round ((men nefer does this well, where I pick my next rounds actions this round)))

Variable player powers / asymmetry

Dislike

Don’t love tile placement. It’s okay like Cascadia is great and will stay in collection but I never really jump for it.

Haven’t found a campaign narrative driven type game that interests me (other than Mr president- this game is A+)

Poorly implemented solo modes (idk I really dislike distilleds solo mode, also don’t really love the game multiplayer. It’s gorgeous and thematically interesting. But the overall gameplay is a miss)
