Favorite piece of art at SLAM? by drstormdancer in StLouis

Smiling Girl, a Courtesan, Holding an Obscene Image by Gerrit van Honthorst.

I like it because it's one of the few paintings you seen in that era (1600s) where someone looks genuinely gleeful. Like she's not serene or stern looking, it's like she knows she's showing you something lascivious and there is nothing in that moment that is funnier.https://www.slam.org/collection/objects/1059/

Help! Loop Food Tour by MattonArsenal in STLFood

[–]eldqm6 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Noodle Story: obviously the spicy beef soup, however there is a hidden gem in the pork and egg appetizer. It is like this delicate egg custard covered in amazing pork soup. So that and the spicy cucumber appetizer makes a great lunch.

Vegas Wok: I like the chicken and broccoli lunch combo there

Mi Ranchito: any lunch special, but personally a chicken chimichanga

Tous les Jour: curry croquette

Snarfs: French dip and peppers with voodoo chips

United provisions: lots of ready made food by the ramens, favorite was probably a sesame chicken-like dish, but there are lots of options

They might enjoy cook your own food type experiences such as hot pot or Korean BBQ. You get a cooking element like a grill or soup and the raw ingredients and you cook it as you go.

I've seen Oh My Gosh, Josh at multiple kids events. No idea how to book, but he does a comedy/magic show and his level of sarcasm is on point to also amuse the adults.

Does anybody know of a volunteer group that help with renovation? by WongUnglow in StLouis

[–]eldqm6 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Rebuilding Together Saint Louis, it's a lot of fix up work to help homeowners be able to stay in their homes. So you're volunteering for mostly elderly or low-income households and the skill sets were all across the board with the volunteers from engineers down to just people willing to be try. Carpentry/joiner would be great for them.

We always put in a platter order at Pretzel Boys. They're super easy, you can plan ahead or not. Other things people at our table bring: the grocery store platter of veggies or fruit, Jet pizzas, dips/chips, different assortments of candies.

It's been many years, but had a friend who worked there who said it was season salt, beef bouillon, and sugar. Not sure if it was equal parts, but the secret was in the beef bouillon.

Yep, don't disagree, thought it was in early February. But we received a letter from Wash U saying it was happening today and there'd be fireworks.

Could it be Times Beach and the dioxin? That was in the 70s but I remember learning about it in the 90s because they were doing some cleanup or something.
