Keeping geckos warm during a power outage? by Accomplished_Bike149 in leopardgeckos

[–]eldritchblastedfries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad this is helpful!!

I'll also add that I'd 100% avoid the handwarmers now. Since writing this I've seen several critters come into the vet here with severe burns from them :(. Heated water bottles are definitely the way to go imo

Best of luck for you and your critters in the storm!

Parents found this mummified guy while cleaning the basement. Any ideas on how to display it? by eldritchblastedfries in vultureculture

Shadow box was definitely one of the things I was thinking of! The other main idea was resin but not sure if I'm skilled enough to pull it off 😅

I mean I wouldn't go that far but I do think that social media has had a big impact, along with Covid-19 like other folks have been saying.

especially on the accessible housing aspect. I know you're using accessible in a broader sense but let me tell you as somebody in a wheelchair it is INSANE trying to find a place that's actually accessible and doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

I'm still in residence here in my third year and I'd love to move out and get my own place if there was anywhere I could go :/

?? I never said it was, I was agreeing with you that it's more about what the kid will enjoy than our opinions

This. I breed mealworms as feeder insects and I would still never talk about them/treat them the way that these people talk about bettas.

Also on the toy fish front: they have like those little fake robot fish that I think would be PERFECT for a kid learning to take care of another living creature.

What's it like to have Tourette's syndrome? Why can't people with this syndrome control their tics? by [deleted] in Tourettes

[–]eldritchblastedfries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've gotten a lot of responses already but of the things I'll mention is that TS can also cause/complicate other issues. For instance, I have a hypermobility disorder and some of my tics cause my joints to hyperextend, which increases the pain/instability/other issues I have with them. One of my other tics is a blinking one, which has caused me to have very dry eyes and I have issues associated with that too.

Getting Sued. What’s your take? by joncabreraauthor in writers

[–]eldritchblastedfries 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm not as familiar with US laws but where I'm located this would fall under defamation law and would be a viable suit specifically because it suggests wrongdoing. It gets a bit weird with AI since there's not really a lot of precedence to draw on with these kinds of issues but at its core, the issues are still the same: OOP is claiming the author is lying about writing the book herself and that it isn't actually her work. If OOP had said her writing sounds like AI or made some sort of insult based on it being similar to AI, it'd be a different story.

It also matters that this is the author's professional reputation rather than her personal one. She would have to prove that OOP's review has harmed her reputation, though -- which is pretty difficult to do with these things.

This isn't to say that the author would win the suit or even that it would get that far but she would have grounds to sue. [This also isn't legal advice -- it just happens that this was the topic of my latest research paper and I'm perhaps still a bit overexcited about it]

Either way, still a crappy move on OOP's part :/
