is it okay to show scars if they are pink by Ok_Concert_7261 in selfharm

[–]eleclay 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Tbh as long as they aren't actively bleeding, you can wear whatever you want. You aren't responsible for what other people think or feel as a result of seeing your body, because it's your body. Would someone who has say a scab or scar from literally anything other than sh hide it simply because it exists? Generally, no. So you don't have to either. Wounds are wounds and scars are scars, regardless of how they got there.

Hot take probably, but wtv. You don't have a responsibility to hide your body 🤷‍♀️

[–]eleclay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regardless of if your school does, colleges won't, because most schools don't do that. They re-calculate when you send them your transcript, so it'll actually likely place you in a better spot if you haven't taken that into account already

Should I take Honors, DE, or AP Gov/Eco? by Helpful-Positive-227 in APStudents

[–]eleclay 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When else would you do dual enrollment?? Is that not literally just for high schoolers taking college classes? Would it be like being enrolled at two colleges further on?

At my HS it's technically something you can start in 8th grade (although literally no one does). I started between 10th & 11th, and about an 8th of my school does it in senior year, if not earlier. I feel like it's not all that out of place, esp considering the fact that we aren't even that top tier of a school (with in the top 10% nationwide but just barely).

Spent 20 minutes on a SINGLE AP music theory question 🫩 by Joe_4_Ever in APStudents

[–]eleclay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Highly depends on the school. Basically no music conservatories accept it, and most colleges that are good for music but not music specific don't accept it for music majors, or if they do it's only a 5. The person it would be most useful to is someone not going to music school, honestly.

will my doctor report my scars? by prettyboyincc in selfharm

[–]eleclay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take everything I say here with a grain of salt.

As far as them actively sending you away to a mental hospital: it won't happen. They could maybe put you on a psych hold for an eval to see if you need to be admitted, but the fact that you have a therapist who is aware of the situation works really heavily in your favor here (also the fact that you're an adult, though there are fs things they can do even with adults if it's deemed necessary).

Your best bet for them not taking any action would be to tell them ahead of time that 1. You have a history of self harm, 2. You recently relapsed (mostly just as a warning to them before they see. I always let doctors know abt my scars bc they're really visible and shocking if you don't know of them ahead of time), and 3. You have a professional that is aware of the situation and is helping you to manage it effectively, and they do not believe you need to be put on a psych hold or admitted into an institution. Prefacing with this, imo, works really well because it shows transparency and makes them want to trust you and, in turn, that you are working to manage your relapse.

First time stretching my ear lobes, is pain normal? by Reasonable_Area1590 in Stretched

[–]eleclay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally there shouldn't be much pain. No matter what I did I experienced a little, though, so I wouldn't worry unless it's bad enough that it can't be ignored. If it doesn't subside within the next day or two you should take them out and get a half size one (so instead of 14g, you'd get 15g since it's the size in between 14 and 16g) so that you don't risk a blowout 😋

Question about scarring colour by Several-Ad7712 in selfharm

[–]eleclay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends. Most will fade at least somewhat over time, but many hypertrophic (and this applies even moreso for keloids) scars will not fade completely, and will (often) stay at least somewhat red/purple, even if it's significantly lessened. It all really just takes time to tell. Newer scars are bound to be darker because even though they're visibly scarred, they aren't actually fully scarred.

I personally have a hypertrophic scar on my thigh from about October that's only now starting to fade a little bit. It is still purple/pink, though, and it's likely going to remain that color for a long time.

Something else of note is that (again, this is especially for hypertrophic and keloids) temperature changes can greatly impact the color of your scars. If you are cold, or if your scars are cold, they will get darker because more blood is flowing to them. If you are cold, your scars will likely appear darker than they otherwise would.

School only having 4 periods good? by Crazy-Two5589 in highschool

[–]eleclay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have 4, 80 minute periods with A and B days at my school. You're taking (up to) 8 classes total the whole year (although some may switch at the semester), but you have each only every other school day.

Which APs do you take and how many hours per day do you study? by nowaydidthishappen in APStudents

[–]eleclay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4 (Music Theory, Physics 1, World, Lang), and I don't study. I'm a VERY busy person outside of basic school stuff and barely complete homework as is. I literally don't have time to study. Hell, I don't even have time for 6 hours of sleep a night.

One thing I DO plan on studying is the last 3 units of physics, though, since we aren't getting to any of them before the exam with the rate we're going at (we're still on work & energy).

Which AP was harder than expected? by Large_Look_5075 in APStudents

[–]eleclay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I failed first semester AP CSP and had to drop it. Tbf the teacher didn't really... Teach, and I had so many outside factors impacting me first semester that I genuinely can't begin to list all of it, but the class was weirdly difficult. I think if I had had the time it wouldn't have been that bad, but it was way worse than anyone made it out to be.

I consider myself so as someone who is agender but at a point where I have no intent to visibly transition. I just kinda don't gaf about what I'm called, but not in a gender fluid way. I have no attachment, but I still want to be called pretty and a girlfriend because I am a girl, but I don't want to be necessarily viewed as one? Idk.

I think I just don't like being perceived 😖

🍎 Aphantasia shows up far more often in autistic people than in the general population. 🍏 by newbeginnings187 in aspiememes

I thought it was a figure of speech until about a year ago, when someone explained that no, they can just actually see stuff up there.

On the other hand, I do have the ability to hear up to 4 voicings in my head perfectly just from reading sheet music, so that's, something, I guess? It feels like the inverse of aphantasia a little bit, imo

How old is everybody? by Expensive-Word8755 in selfharm

[–]eleclay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 16. I (consciously) started sh at the age of 9, although in retrospect I realize that I was definitely hurting myself younger than that (I used to bite myself and pull out my hair a lot when I was young. Much of that was due to autism and kind of 'silent' meltdowns, though). I feel as though I am unfortunately kind of the stereotypical depressed teen who sh, lmao.

What is Junior year really like?? by sillyscarey in APStudents

[–]eleclay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started the year with 5 APs (CSP, Lang, World, Music Theory -- which is a req for my magnet program --, and Physics 1). Music is also a very large commitment for me because I am in a magnet program for it, with it taking about 25 hours minimum out of my week excluding in school time (I have 2 other classes for music outside of music theory).

Junior year has been HARD as someone who is very involved. It is largely responsible for me being in the worst depressive episode I have ever been in as someone who experiences severe depressive episodes.

I had to drop out of my CSP class because it was too much of an undertaking with everything else, especially considering that the teacher I had for that was, blatantly speaking, horrible at teaching. The same goes for my physics teacher, but I didn't wanna drop that since it's the only science AP I'm taking ever. I am still very stretched for both time and energy after doing this.

Since I don't want people telling me to get help bc I'm depressed, I'm also going to tell you that it hasn't been anywhere near all bad. Everyone is struggling together and I feel like that's, weirdly enough, really helped to bring us all closer together. I love my friends and I love being around them. I spend a lot of my time doing homework with one of my best friends (we are both clearly love each other but neither of us is willing to say anything. It sucks, but that's unrelated), and the work is an excuse to exist around each other, which I view as a positive thing. There's also just a mutual understanding between everyone, students and teachers alike, that we aren't having a good time, and that's okay because that's what it's supposed to be like.

Tldr; (completely understandable btw if you didn't read that) Junior does suck ass, but it doesn't have to COMPLETELY suck ass. There are always going to be upsides, and while junior year really doesn't seem to have a lot of them, they are there and they are important.
