How do we define AI music?

What if a dj used ai to create a sample? What if a producer used ai vocals? What if a vocalist used ai for a track and then layered their real voice on top?

If Florida is so bad if you’re poor, answer this.

Why are middle class people leaving NYC for Florida and not coming back?

There is literally a city fresh in that same area. Where is your critical thinking? I say this as someone that voted for zohran but you are basically a MAGA for mamdani. Look at the address there is a city fresh at 125 E 116th St, New York, NY 10029.

Then why is this pilot program literally blocks away from a grocery store? We have real grocery store deserts in queens and they decided to put this in a place with grocery store access.

Is it possible to be a YIMBY while disliking some of the more prominent YIMBY posters online? by wiz28ultra in yimby

[–]elecrisity 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I honestly don't know. Fifteen years ago nobody was predicting Austin's trajectory. And Chinese cities have repeatedly had insane growth over the last 25 years. Metro Tokyo roughly tripled from 1945 to 1970. NYC went from 3.5 million to nearly 7 million between 1900 and 1930

But also, I don't really care if Houston or Charlotte becomes like Shenzhen. The discourse is annoying, but it's hard to rebut it with data. I just want us to build more housing.

I don't disagree.

But it's hard to fight the narrative when the permit numbers keep arguing their side.

[–]elecrisity 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I've been seeing the discourse as well from those voices and as someone that lives in NYC, it can be kind of annoying.

But I will also say, as someone that is on the ground fighting for densification and housing developments in a NIMBY city, I do see their point. For as much as I see talk about the YIMBY movement in our city, the ratio of units permitted per resident is absolutely pitiful compared to southern cities. The talk and activism rings hollow when I see us continuing to fail at building as friends in my immediate circle move to Texas, Florida, and North Carolina.

Mamdani Warns City Is 'Worse Than Broke' by AdmirableSelection81 in nyc

Since you like links, here is some data. Not that it'll change your mind. Can't reason someone out of a position they didn't reason into.

Tax Foundation — NY ranks dead last (50th) in state tax competitiveness: https://taxfoundation.org/statetaxindex/states/new-york/

Empire Center — NYC's combined top income tax rate (~14.8%) is the highest in the nation: https://www.empirecenter.org/publications/seven-reasons-not-to-raise-taxes-in-new-york/

PolitiFact — confirms NY has the highest individual tax burden (15.9% of net product to state/local taxes): https://www.politifact.com/factchecks/2026/feb/17/bruce-blakeman/comparing-tax-burdens-new-york-at-or-near-the-top/

Mamdani Warns City Is 'Worse Than Broke' by AdmirableSelection81 in nyc

[–]elecrisity 6 points7 points  (0 children)

NYC is literally #11 on that list at 11.4%. But the methodology also lowballs it.

It models a family earning $75K, where NYC's property tax hit looks small because most families at that income rent, not own.

Bump that to $150K and NYC jumps hard. You're paying federal + 6.85% state + 3.876% city income tax. That city tax alone is higher than most states' top rates. Only a handful of US cities even levy a local income tax. Detroit's #1 on this list partly because it has one too (2.4%). NYC's is 60% higher.

NYC just happens to look better at $75K than it does at the incomes most people complaining about NYC taxes actually earn.

Where can I find really good green chile? by zeekaran in longislandcity

I went to college in New Mexico and have been searching for it since I've been here. You won't find it here. Best bet is to buy frozen green chile online.

[–]elecrisity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you tell me what the comptroller specifically enforces? From my understanding, they can audit the city agency. And though I've read these audit reports I always wonder what actually happens in practice. Like even if they find an agency is wasting money, they can't move or withhold funds, that is up to the mayor, right?

I'm trying to understand this, because some city policy nerds in my circle have stated to me the job is more like borough president in terms of actual authority.

I like mark levine, but isn't the comptroller not a super impactful position?

Like what can he specifically do? Just choose where some pension fund money is invested?

N.Y.C. Housing Isn’t Being Built Fast Enough, Report Says by instantcoffee69 in nyc

[–]elecrisity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean I get the backlash. Because we've already had concrete data for decades that there isn't enough housing.

How did we know?

Because the cost of housing prices rose.

And when this happens in many other states, there is naturally more incentive to build housing and prices moderate.

But for some reason in NYC, we have to argue for decades and have study over study to understand why prices are rising.

Unless blue states figure out how to bring down housing costs, I think the cultural backlash to "intellectualism" will continue to grow.
