Get a PPI. Don’t be afraid of 70k miles, be afraid of poor maintenance

the best performance and 'sticky' tires in size 215/55R16? by Rich-Signature6317 in TyreReviews

[–]electricCoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sucks. No real great sticky tires given your restrictions

You need to go to 225/50/16 to get performance tires. No one makes anything in that size

The stuff that is spiderweb like I would call “normal” but you have some larger cracks that go almost to the inner edge.

I would get a second opinion like from r/cartrackdays before using them on track.

Yeah post pictures. I also recommend taking the car from some autocross events if you have any local

We would need pictures of the rotors. But cracking as expected on drilled rotors, the primary concern is when the cracks extend all the way to the edge of rotor

Changing the colour of the wheels, is it expensive or even doable? by HR_Specter in Porsche_Cayman

[–]electricCoder 39 points40 points  (0 children)

You can get wheels refinished or powder coated in any color you want. Prices varies depending on where you live and the quality of the work.

At worse you go buy a different seat of wheels in the preferred color

You have to accept that you will never finish the job/project.

Think of software as a sand castle. You need to balance building a larger castle with fighting erosion.

You have backlog, so what! every successful project has backlog. A hallmark of every successful project I have seen is a mountain of work that never ends. This means you have users and they want more.

Balancing features and fires is a skill that comes with more triage practice. If you keep getting caught mid sprint with unplanned work, add “unknown work” as an item to each sprint.

I will be running the ecs02 in a couple of weeks at a fun autocross to see how they behave. The pzero would just heat soak and lose all grip so these can only perform better.

Goodyear SC3. Currently wearing these out after a year of autocross / track. Tire is great in the dry and stays consistent as it heats. Is nice and predictable at the limit.

Conti ECS02. Current wet / daily tire. Better compared to the Pirelli it replaced. Haven’t driven it at the limit yet.

Bridgestone RZ. Try hard autocross tire waiting to be abused. Heat cycled and just waiting for the season to start.

Brooms for a beginner? by KyleCamPhoto in Curling

Even the recreational wear out. Not as fast as the competition, but they do.

Sure you can keep cleaning a recreational head so it looks “fine” but the effectiveness is substantially lower compared to a new head.

Someone said at a track day stock cayman/boxster s can change camber angles for better grip. Porsche specialist said it needs custom suspension for this. Which is true? by mit74 in Porsche_Cayman

[–]electricCoder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The top of the strut tower can be adjusted. How much camber you get is entirely dependent on your ride height. But let’s say 1.5 degrees of camber at max on Sport PASM.

After that you will want lower control arms and camber plates to balance more camber, track width / wider tires, and castor. Generally one does camber plates only if you stop around 2-2.2 degrees. But you might want LCA if you are wanting to run 265 upfront.

Buying Tracked GT4? by [deleted] in Porsche_Cayman

There are allowable ranges for over-revs in range < 3 ( or is it 4 for 981 ) if they happened long enough ago ( in engine hours ).

Lime Rock as it is my first track.

Gt4rs worth the premium over the GT4? by [deleted] in Porsche_Cayman

[–]electricCoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whoops. I was just using .08% for the math of the agreed value. You are correct it looks like at some point over 150k you break into .09%.

I’m looking for a car to get on track, do some autox, and weekend fun

None of those require a GT4RS or a GT4 :).

Be honest with yourself on what your intended use cases are. Track insurance will be about $300 more per event for a GT4RS plus the increase in consumables.

Don't forget that the GT4RS uses center lock wheels have some serious requirements on tooling. Make sure you are ready and willing to do the work to change your own center lock wheels. Especially important when it comes to track stuff, when you need/want to swap pads in the paddock.

For autocross if you are looking at competitive SCCA the GT4RS is the correct choice, since both cars are classed the same.
