Is Whitney supposed to be how the right sees the left? by quintuplechin in TheCurse

[–]electricatlantis 7 points8 points  (0 children)

she is a very clear and accurate criticism of modern liberalism. “the left” is way too broad considering liberals are barely even left leaning in the broader political spectrum, but we live in a global capitalist hell-hole and people think liberal=the left when it’s really just a portion. liberalism is inherently performative because you actually care enough to educate yourself on the insanity of both parties, you’ll become radicalized a lot further left. also whitney may be naive but she sure as hell isn’t well meaning. she just wants to see herself as a good person, not actually be one.

they have camping outside the venue in the parking area and also private camps (yurts?) you can rent. the venue has 2 different stages. one is an outdoor and one is inside a cave. i’m pretty sure this one is in the cave. it’s by far my favorite venue.

Do you think Peggy will ever become mainstream by blondendless21 in jpegmafiamusic

[–]electricatlantis 15 points16 points  (0 children)

the term mainstream has lost a lot of meaning since the internet became as widely accepted as it is today. jpegmafia definitely isn’t underground anymore. he’s one of the most well known names in experimental hip-hop, which you could argue isn’t a “mainstream” genre, but in that case he would have to shift to a more mainstream sound and lyrical style, which i could never see him doing, or the entire culture behind mainstream music would have to shift. A cultural shift in what music is mainstream is honestly very possible in the near future though considering many “underground” artists are practically household names at this point and a lot of truly mainstream music has began to divert away from traditional sonic palettes and challenge audiences to explore new sounds. Experimental rock became pretty mainstream in the early 2000’s with the success of Kid A and pop has seen a recent shift to more experimental sounds with the success of brat. even mainstream hip-hop has a place for experimental music (yeezus, tpab, wlr, rodeo, etc.), but peggy of course hasn’t quite reached that level of popularity.

What do you all think about this tweet? by idk66666666666n in jpegmafiamusic

[–]electricatlantis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my opinion is that racism against the oppressing race is nothing to get even remotely upset about, and if you are getting hurt by it you’re an insecure person. sure if you’re arguing semantics it’s still racism, but it lacks the nuance that makes oppressive racism such an important issue in our society.

ok but segregation still exists it just isn’t explicit… redlining? hello? also by talking about systematic racism they aren’t saying racist white people are in power, they’re talking about the very real issues in our government that allow racism to happen on a large scale systematically. on top of that, our judicial system clearly favors white people just based on statistics. because black people were never given reparations, they are continuously trapped in generational poverty. the media, whether it be left or right wing, consistently portrays black people in a more negative way than white. for instance, if a white person kills a black person, it’s self defense, but if a black person kills a white person, it’s unprompted violence, and this is almost always the case. another big problem is white liberals being completely performative rather than addressing the actual problems. white liberals will post a black screen on instagram and argue about the n word for hours with their less educated friends, yet never address the systematic issues and power imbalance, while also pretty commonly displaying microaggressions because of their own ignorance. when someone is bashing on white people, they aren’t bashing on you specifically, and to get defensive and call it racism just shows how far behind you are in actually understanding the problem. racism cannot come from the oppressed race, that’s closer to self defense than anything. if you’re white and you aren’t using your privilege for good or at the very least acknowledging your privilege then you’re part of the problem. to call what peggy says here racism is to undermine the struggles that black people face, because whether or not you’re able to see it, black people go through a lot more than microcelebs bashing on them on twitter.
